POPULIST POLITICS AND THE EMERGING HELL IN THE HILLY BENGAL (CHITTAGONG HILL TRACTS) AND ARAKAN!

Recent estimates show that Bengalis are more populous in Chittagong Hill Tracts, than the tribal population combined together. In 1993 official Bangladesh census shows Bengali Muslims were 45% and Tribals were a little over 50%.

WHO WERE THE ABORIGINALS OF CHITTAGONG HILL TRACTS?

Archeological findings in Rangamati shows that Chittagong Hill Tracts has been lived by the Indo-Aryan people, the ancestors of Bengali people from primitive times. Chakmas the largest among the tribes entered the Hill Tracts around the 14th century during sultani period, Marmas during the 16th century, the Bomang group in Ramgarh area were the Moghs, the decedents of the Medieval pirates in the Bay and the Rakhines entered during British period in the 19th century who settled in Cox's Bazar.

 Records show that most of the above tribes except the Monipuris entered Bengal from Arakan of Burma. It is evident in the Bengali names in Chittagong Hill Tracts such as Borkol, Rangamati, Thakerpahar, Bandarbon, Mohalchari, Ramgarh. These are all Bengali names of the Hilly Bengal and none of the names has any linguistic connection with Arakanese/ Burmese names.

HILLY BENGAL OR JUMMALAND
 Defying the historical records, but inspired by India for its geopolitical interest, the Chakma rebels call the Chittagong Hill Tracts (Hilly Bengal) as the "Jummaland" and claims the tribes as being indigenous people of the "Jummaland." They are also changing the names of local Bengali names of places imitating the Burmese and Thai names.

 It is interesting to note that, both Chittagong Hill Tracts and the Lusai Hills (Mizooram) were part of Hilly Bengal. The Moghuls collected revenue from them in the form of cotton (Kapash). The British separated the Hilly Bengal from Chittagong and turned it into Chittagong Hill Tracts and Mizooram and in 1947 even included Mizooram with India.

ANTI- ROHINGYA MUSLIM EXTERMINATION MOVEMENT IN ARAKAN
Although the tribes had their historic origins in outside Bengal, it is a great pride that the tribals are the equal citizens of Bangladesh. However, lately the tribal leaders in alliance with Burmese rebel groups had launched anti Rohingya extermination in Burma. Majoe General Anup Chakma, the Bangladesh ambassador in Rangoon on record was involved in this pogrom.

ANTI- BENGALI MUSLIM MOVEMENT THE HILL TRACTS
Similarly, as in Arakan, tribals groups in Chittagong Hill Tracts are also launching Bengali Muslim extermination movement in Bangladesh`s Hilly Bengal. Like in Chittagong Hill Tracts, the anti Rohingya Muslim movement  that is going on in Arakan is also called anti-Bengali Muslim. In addition. the tribes of Chittagong Hill Tracts  have been asking the government of Bangladesh for autonomy. Hasina government lately granted the tribes their control over local government, denying the rights of the Bengali people. The tribes are asking for full autonomy including it's power to keep only tribal police in the region.

INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIONS
Confidential report shows that for only less than a million tribal people, the USA and Western governments and policy makers in India are keen to see Chittagong Hill Tracts be given full autonomy while US and other well wishers of the tribals remain silent on the Rohingya Muslims denial of `Burmese citizenship and continued genocide.

 DEVELOPING DANGEROUS TREND
Arakan's separatist groups dream of owning Chittagong Hill Tracts to establish their lost kingdom of Arakan. The tribes of Chittagong Hill Tracts are Hasina's vote bank. In the process, Dhaka city and Bandarbon forest area remain the destinations and safe heavens of Arakanese separatist group's. While the tribals keep asking Bangladesh government for more control over the Hill Bengal by exterminating the Bengali Muslim population. Such Rakhine extremist aspirations wouldn`t bring good to Burma either!
