[chottala.com] Re: Dr. Yunus-er Gomor Fank !!!!!!!!

Madam Khalida had increased her salary 100% in 2001

Madam Hasina has also increased her salary 100% in 2009

Both of them also have increased tax and vat for collecting their increased salary

In this way they have

c)     Money devaluation done 100% and money inflation done 100%

e)     Everything price  rises up high at the rate of 100%

So Dr Yunus's buying capacity also rises up 100%

One millions buying capacity rises up 100% millions

So Dr yunus is not corrupt person.

He is  the founding father or founder of Grameen Bank and he holds the supreme command giving and decision making power of work to Grameen Bank.

Yes

Dr Yunus is a professor to teaching the people for learning the good thing.

He is a business person to performing good profitable business activities.

He is a NGO organizer to administrating non government administration and organization.

He uses his address when where he lives when where he is available so that people can contact him easily.

Dr Yunus is justified and correct in all respect perfect and efficient person.

He is not worthless inefficient like the politicians and column writers of Bangladesh....

He should be provided power of Bangladesh Government Administration to rule for building Bangladesh a rich honorable country.

For building digital Bangladesh BKSAL should be revived under the Leadership of Dr Yunus, all politicians should do politics in guidance of Dr Yunus... As a Chairperson of BKSAL Dr Yunus makes policy to administrate the Bangladesh Government administration...

Because.

By establishing Grameen Bank Dr Younus is able to make himself a  rich person, he  is able to make his family rich member's family, he is able for providing services in Grameen Bank to 26 thousand unemployed people, he is also able for giving  small loans to nearly 9 millions people to do business and  he has established peace in the minds providing food in their hungry stomachs to those poor people who were not getting any food or  help by Hasina and Khalida administration
And for this reasons

He is awarded Nobel Prize. And He makes Bangladesh a respected country in the world.

But the people who are corrupted and had made Bangladesh well-known throughout the world as bottomless Basket and world champion corrupted country is not satisfied.

So they are trying to destroy Grameen Bank by removing Dr Yunus illegally from Board of Grameen Directory and blaming and hunting him...

[chottala.com] Re: [bangla-vision] My trip to spain

Please note: message attached

Dear All:

I just have received a phone call from Mr. Abu Zafar Mahmood, a Bangladeshi American freelance journalist from New York and informed me that his email is hacked by hackers since early morning. He is in New York city now and did not travel outside the USA very recently. He informed me that he didn't travel to Spain, so the questions of loosing his wallet and asking for money does not arise at all. This story was made by hackers and disseminated through various email groups to sabotage his good name and reputation. Hackers are not only sending emails in his name in various email groups but are also trying to annoy and intimidate him through calling his cell phone because of his writings and publishing against the current Bangladesh government and political party in power.

You're welcomed to contact him through his cell at 646-363-8367 if want to know anything directly from him.

Thanks,

Anis Ahmed, Maryland

[chottala.com] BANGLADESH-WITH JEWISH CONNECTIONS is now a history !

 Dear All

Currently, there is no Jewish community in Bangladesh (Neither there had ever been. Only
there was one Jewish family in Rajshahi ( Mordechai Cohen's), Perhaps there were few Armenian jews in the Armenian street, Dhaka, who left Dhaka during mid-sities).
[These Armenians, mostly Christians, and few jews,  settled down in the then Dacca after the Armenian genocide of  1915. The settlement was prompted by the British who was at war with Germans and it's ally the Ottoman Turkey... Armenia was then a pat of Ottoman empire]

Therefore  Md. Aminul Islam Raj's apprehension is null and void.....!!!

Please read the story below, that shows BNP's connection with AIPAC (American Israeli Public AffairsCommittee). BNP's US-Ambassador Shamser Mubin Chowdhury is an inner circle
operative of Madam Khaleda Zia.  [Shamser Mubin Chowdhury  recently visited USA to lobby
for BNP (March 2011) ]

The Talented Dr. Richard Benkin

by Mash  March 12, 2007, 12:02 am

[Hat tip to Shafiur via his comment and another hat tip to Salam Dhaka and Shuchinta]

babar.jpg

It turns out that Dr. Richard Benkin, the "reporter" who is the source of stories about Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury and Mr. Choudhury's supporter, is registered as a foreign lobbyist. However, if I asked you to guess which government he represented, you would probably be way off the mark.

On September 6, 2005 Dr. Richard Benkin registered as a foreign agent with the United States Department of Justice, under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), for the Government of Bangladesh. [Click here to see the registration document.] Given the kind of articles Dr. Benkin writes about Bangladesh, this revelation is rather shocking.

Dr. Benkin was hired to prepare and disseminate informational materials via radio or TV broadcasts, magazines or newspaper articles, letters or telegrams, press releases and the internet. He was hired to disseminate this information to public officials, civic groups or associations, legislators, newspapers and editors. According to the document filed with the US government, Dr. Benkin had already received $5000 from the Government of Bangladesh as payment for his services. He was to receive $5000 per month based on an oral agreement between Dr. Benkin and the Government of Bangladesh. According to the filing:

The Registrant agreed to provide Public Relations services to the Foreign Principal at a cost of $5000.00 per month, to be paid to the Registrant at the beginning of each month for services that month. There is no formal duration, but it is expected to last at least twelve months.

A month after Dr. Benkin filed his paperwork, the respected lobbying firms Ketchum Washington and The Washington Group also registered as foreign agents for the Government of Bangladesh to do public relations. [Click here to see Ketchum's registration and click here to see The Washington Group's registration.]

There is one significant difference between Dr. Benkin's lobbying and those of Ketchum and The Washington Group. While Ketchum and The Washington Group indicated in their filing that they would deal with the Bangladeshi Embassy in Washington via the ambassador, Shamsher M. Chowdhury, the filing by Dr. Benkin indicated that he would deal with Lutfuzzaman Babar, State Minister for Home Affairs in Bangladesh. The difference is significant.

As an aside, the reader will note that in the first email Rabbi Sue Levy sent me regarding Mr. Choudhury, she accused the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington of trying to discredit Mr. Choudhury.

It does seem unusual that Dr. Benkin would ink his deal with a Bangladeshi state minister involved with domestic law and order, rather than with the official representative of Bangladesh, that is the ambassador and the Embassy. Why the Bangladesh Embassy was sidestepped in a foreign lobbying effort is certainly food for thought. Further Mr. Babar is featured and cited in a large number of Dr. Benkin's "reports" about Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury - yet, Dr. Benkin never mentions that he is a paid consultant working for Mr. Babar. Mr. Babar was also featured in a glowing article dated June 15, 2006 entitled "Babar & His Magic Stick" in the Asian Tribune, Dr. Benkin's mouthpiece of choice. The article was written by a certain Christopher Giddings whose prose is decidedly Bangladeshi in tone, rather than one of a native english speaker.

Those familiar with Bangladesh will note that Mr. Babar is a young politician who gained a reputation for ruthlessness by creating the Rapid Action Battalian (RAB) in March 2004, a paramilitary force responsible for countless extra-judicial killings in Bangladesh. Those unfamiliar with RAB under Mr. Babar can get a sense of their modus operandi by reading the publication "Judge, Jury and Executioner" by Human Rights Watch.

The current interim government in Bangladesh is likely tightening the noose on Mr. Babar, now the former state minister, on alleged corruption charges. So far, anti-corruption forces have raided his home, and have arrested his personal secretary and his cousin on corruption charges.

I can see why Mr. Babar might want a personal PR man to defend his brand of human rights abuses - a lot of people have famously died in the "crossfire" as RAB hunted extremists and common criminals alike. However, Mr. Babar might have been running his own little fiefdom without official government sanction. It makes little sense that at the same time the Government of Bangladesh, through legitimate diplomatic channels, was enlisting the likes of Ketchum and The Washington Group, that a state minister in Bangladesh would hire a foreign lobbyist on his own. It also seems odd that he is repeatedly cited by Dr. Benkin in his "reports" that masquerade as news stories without mentioning that Dr. Benkin is on Mr. Babar's payroll. I am sure the anti-corruption authorities in Bangladesh will have a few questions.

There is a lot of reporting to be done here. I leave it to the reader and fellow Bangladeshi bloggers to fill in the blanks to paint the complete picture. Something smells, and it smells bad.

BONUS for Bangladeshi readers: Here is a glowing article about Tareque Rahman by the aforementioned Christopher Giddings in the Asian Tribune. For non-Bangladeshis, Tareque Rahman, the son of the previous prime minister, is known in Bangladesh as "Mr. Ten Percent" and he has just been arrested for massive corruption. [FARA documents via Shuchinta]

  • Aah, the plot thickens. Great work, Mash. I knew your blog wasn't a fraud. I wonder what the opposing view's response will be to this little nugget of information. :-"

  • Great digging! Bring the rats out of their holes.
I have wondered why Babar hasn't been on the list of hundred corrup individuals (many of them former ministers and MPs) that are being detained. Rumor had it, he used to have his own trained army of goons that attacked prominent poiticians during rallies in the last five years.

  • What a bizzare world.

Good question - why is Babar not on the first 100 list?

Richard Benkin lobbying for him? :-)

  • Robbie, I think the conversation in the other thread has hit rock bottom :)

Zafa, Salam Dhaka, I think the charges against Shoiab are starting to get some meat on the bones. Dr. Benkin has been rather busy for his client. I wonder how many folks in Bangladesh actually know about the connection between Benkin and Babar from the filings in the US.

Another thing to track down is this "Christopher Giddings" of the Asian Tribune. My money is that it is a pseudonym for some Bangladeshi writer. I have an obvious guess but it needs to be run down first. The two pieces he wrote praising Babar and Tareque are quite hilarious - the most sycophantic Bengali would have to work hard to heap such praise.

Like I said, there is definitely some there there.

Great digging, Mash–investigative journalism at its best. This deal just keeps getting more interesting.

  • sharon

Why are you trying to discredit Dr. Benkin? He, I believe is very sincere, and has helped Mr. Choudhury. Mr. Choudhury tries to fight propaganda and is an honest man.

  • Sharon, I think his record speaks for itself.

  • Sajjad Jahir

Benkin should repent for his role during BNP-Jamaat raj.

  • Sajjad Jahir

Sharon is very much wrong. Shoaib is the most dishonest person I ever came across. Less than two years ago, he was in New York hotel where a number of high profile businessmen and lobbyists were giving him awards. Shoaib, the crook was sitting side by side with the Nobel Laureate Eli Wiesel. In his speech, Shoaib made up a story of a fourteen year Jewish girl in Chittagong being raped. He knew it was a big lie, but he wanted to dramatize bringing persecution of Jews in Bangladesh. He was challenged by a Bengali guy and could not give any good answer for his lie. Read the following essay:

I saw Mr Choudhury speak at Rutgers during his most recent US tour. Mr. Choudhury was invited by various Jewish student groups at the school. I knew that something was strange when only Rutgers and Yale invited him to speak. An outspoken Muslim friend of Israel! Jailed and beaten for his beliefs! This should have been so interesting that Jewish student groups would be climbing over to invite him to speak. As a former Hillel event leader I thought about contacting my alma matter and telling them that they had to bring him - thank god I didn't.

At the talk, I naively remarked to the girl next to me that he seemed to be in remarkable physical health for someone who had been severely beaten so many times. I detected no limps or scars. I generally am an obsessive googler of any person or talk that I am going to meet, as I believe that it is always beneficial to have context, but in this case I had been too busy in the days before the talk. While sitting there I started research him and Benkin through my phone's web browser, which is when I came across this blog. As an American Jew who made great sacrifices to move to Israel and serve in the IDF, there are few people who can claim to be bigger supporters of Israel than I. As such I was deeply embarrassed when I started putting the pieces together and realized what a sham this was. Mr. Choudhury's "talk" was nothing more than a diatribe against the Arab and Muslim worlds, in such simplistic and exaggerated terms as to be insulting to anyone with a hint of intelligence, let alone an esteemed university. I am a relatively right-wing Israeli voter - I voted for Ariel Sharon over Ehud Barak (although more recently chose Tzipi Livni over Bibi Netanyahu) and am doubtful about the viability of the two-state solution - but this was so low that I felt dirty and complicit just listening to it. When his "speech" ended after only 10-15 minutes I got up and left before the questions and the love-fest began.

It's been a month and I am still embarrassed to have fallen for this ruse.

I should also add that this story is so bizarre that I feel even Kafka could not have made it up.

  • Between me and my husband we've owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I've settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

I agree that this person is a total liar, cheat and phony. He steals money from people. I am a USA journalist and I want to expose him. Research of BD documents would help. Please write to me at msgrnbrg@aol.com if you want to help with this.

grave immoral act by an ASP highway bogora & CO RAB-1
    3/1/2011 8:30pm
SP Mir Ashraf Ali of Bogora Highway impersonated himself as The SP of Bogora for the sake of showdown brought his vehicle for an imperial entrance into the neighborhood of Ulon west rampura riding a conspicuous vehicle, Mitsubishi Pajero Dhaka Metro Gho 116776 getting into 212's building at Ulon Road, West Rampura Dhaka and feasting onto the 3rd. flr. to boost up Monir & spouse Bilu- a crime committing couple being an influential member of a crime committing syndicate led by self-proclaimed Matabars specializing in land/house grabbing, lake filling, forgery, harboring creating criminals, running drugs, bribery blackmailing, prostitution, vandalizing, extortion, loan-sharking, encouraging building code violation, oppressing, attacking and ruining a renowned family… joined by Lt. Col. Rashidul Alom CO, RAB-1 he too bringing an extensive vehicles of RAB Dhaka Metro 02-3303, DM Ga 174645 etc in full gear making the area look like a block raid . Later they threatened my family to leave our very own residence or else we will be picked up and/or deface to the extent of being unrecognizable further he will make sure our whereabouts are untraceable.

Sub: A reproach against an Army Lt. Col. and some of colleagues who have been selling out the power of their uniforms providing multifarious assistance to a diehard syndicate responsible for committing abominable crimes that made our lives virtually unlivable.

Lt Col. Rashidul Alom, Dir. RAB-1, accompanied by SP Bogora Highway Mir Ashraf Ali has been insulating his relatives (brother-in-law: Monir of 212 Ulon rd. west rampura ) and a crime committing syndicate involved multifarious crimes led by 3bros (self-proclaimed Matabars Sheeru, Shaulldin, & Momean. They have satanically persecuted us for 7dissipated long years by keeping us from earning a living, stopping our source of income, garbling our land records, keeping us under watch round the clock, bringing mobs on hire to scare abuse us ruining our social status calling us insane (PAGOL) to take away our credibility, not allowing and allowed other to mix with us, throwing full-sized bricks onto our tin-shed roof like hailstorm, poisoning 6 of our pet dogs (Canines), 3cats (Felines), distorting the autopsy reports, bugging our phones and many more….to various departments we went to for assistance to no succor obviously Lt. Col. Rashid hampered its operation deactivating. Even phoning up to have the transgressors released from police custody.

Prior to the happenings Lt. Col. Rashedul Alom came most frequently to Monir's building with RAB-1 sticker posted on an extensive vehicle loaded with uniformed men in full gear moving around our house with walkie-talkies in hand and getting inside 212' feasting on the 3rd flr. Just for the sake of showdown.. Threatening us over phone to keep our mouths shut or else, sent over RAB-1 personnel to scare us out etc. I distinctly remember marauding/myriad of times doubtful activities in momentum when Lt. Col. Rashid came veiling RAB-1 in font as a cover up to bring in/out luggage/briefcases inside 212 or putting within the cars of a black Nissan marked RAB-1 Dhaka Metro Gho 02-3303, Dhaka Metro Go 17-8548, Dhaka Metro Kho 122075 and Dhaka Metro GA 174645 . What's inside the carriers certainly no smelly undergarments? Times of Rashid's visitation invigoration swept fashioning the street urchins taking their shirts off and dangling, dancing dauntingly with ear shattering music played on deck in the street while the syndicate members came out marching to the band.

14/12/2010. 11:15am Observably Rashid is harboring presently a criminally attitudinized male specimen that happens to be a relative Babon son of Monir & Bilu a crime committing couple. For days he was unseen till suspiciously until today brought him out of 212 and shoved inside Rashid's car D M GA 174645 . Question is who authorized him for frequent misappropriation of government vehicle for his personal gain? A neutral investigation will reveal an exclusive array of Rashid's & his buddy's role play as insulators of crime and an ally of injustice.

Note: Due to the reprisals from the syndicate everyone turned into statues not risking to crack, but feigning testifiers are abundant keeping reserved surveillance round the clock.

    Maj Gen. Abul Kalam Azad.
    DG. Drug Admin
Note: This write-up is initiated with reference to my telephonic discussion with
you on various occasions Bearing in mind a Global Crisis…..

    Dear Sir:
By way of a ready reference, I brought to your direct attention, two dispensary shops in Ulon Rampura neighborhood whose activities from the Drug Administration's multifarious point of view, were highly questionable as such having emphasized on an in-depth investigation, perceivably, based on your order a few strangers were observed to have been keeping the shops under surveillance for a few days that resulted in the closure of the dispensaries and sending the owners underground locking up their shops!
To be more specific, Rabiul the owner of Alif Medical Hall, 19 Ulon was no where to be seen and just opposite to that Nazrul, owner of Kajal Medical Hall of #212 opened his shop intermittently… turned into an apparent "scrupulously mosque going person…..!"

I distinctly remember having mentioned to you that a man in uniform and badges was insulating the crime mongers in Ulon area, for reasons I am not interested in… well, cutting through the pasturing, the hyperbole and giving it out straight, in this particular instance of the dispensaries – your business was to address to and demonstrating that "you knew your job… !" As far as I am concerned, to run a dispensary a drug license happens to be the prerequisite followed by many stringent rules and regulations…. and that any violation and/or abuse is virtually zero tolerant.

My sources confirmed that a black vehicle Dhaka Metro Go 231583 carrying in a man-in-uniform Lt. Col. Rashid personally presented himself to the neighborhood followed by having Robiul at once split open the shutters of his shop while a sigh of relief was murmured in kajol's dispensary (an "addakhana" will better explain it) "now, there is no problem as the car (carrying in the savior) has finally arrived on the spot?"

I had taken the liberty of informing you once again of recent occurrences based upon your refraining from taking any action although you admitted having received written reports from your staff about the gravity of the situation and that you haven't had the time to go through them! However, you added up that as you were in the Secretariat in a meeting, and that, as soon as you returned back to office, you will be reviewing them and would call me back for a clear update. Which, for unfathomable reasons didn't proceed expectantly.

When one of my associates contacted you, I regret to say, your answer sounded like one that of an egoistic one that sounded "I don't take orders from you."

    Bottom line
"I don't much care about what you think of yourself , what's important to me is what you really are - A PUBLIC SERVANT Just like everyone else that performs efficiently… further, Your uniform and badges may be elucidated / considered ornamental elsewhere but not in such an important organization like "Drug Administration". It is not my intention here to deliver lecture about "how you discharge your duties" except to say that your job needs an uncompromising person who knows his working periphery; There is no scope of discrimination when it comes to exterminating any and all culpability" , you by no means, are posted over there to promote any uncalled for favoritism let alone institutionalize any sort of nepotism at the cost of the post and position you are holding on, after all your paycheck calls for earning it by performing well!

Meanwhile, the aforementioned dispensaries are very much back in business and will keep on doing so unless someone comes forward to challenging them. Will it be too much to ask it from you? As in your own words, know the scope of your work and also know your job thoroughly? I'm in, for "seeing is believing!"

Ps. Robiul has shifted his dispensary over to 26 ulon bazaar.

I look forward to hearing from you.

This article about the Jews inclination to Bangladesh especially Jacob, and Jews Settlement in the West Bengal may add some fuel. In old town near tati bazaar and Near Sangsad Bhaban, Mirpur-10  there is few Jews settlement, a source added.

THE JERUSALEM POST

BANGLADESH-WITH JEWISH CONNECTIONS
David Zetler.

Iwas interested in including Bangladesh in our tour to Asia, but there would be problems involved, the main one being that as Israelis, my wife and I were not allowed into the Muslim country. An Israeli diplomat in Asia told me about Mordecai Cohen, who grew up in what is today Bangladesh. I contacted him in Kolkata, where he now lives, and planned how to get our Bangladeshi visas using our foreign passports. An Asian Bangladeshi mission kindly granted us visas and even warned us about the traffic in Dhaka.

We arrived in Kolkata, where we were made very welcome by Mordy and Jo Cohen. Mordy's great-grandparents, Jews from Iran and Iraq, settled in East Bengal in the 1800s in what was then India. Very few Jews settled in East Bengal, as opposed to West Bengal, which had a thriving Jewish community of more than 5,000 at its peak in and around Kolkata (then Calcutta).

When the Indian subcontinent became independent from Britain in 1947, it was partitioned between India and the divided country of East and West Pakistan.

Mordy went to school in Rajshahi in East Pakistan and was one of the pioneers of television in Dhaka (then Dacca), which was its capital. He was an announcer and news reader in English and two local languages.

Each news broadcast was accompanied by "the news, presented by Mordecai Cohen." Mordy had attended school with boys who later held important positions in the government and in the defense services. He gave us the name and phone number of a former cabinet minister in Dhaka if we encountered any problems there. After the Six Day War in 1967, questions were raised about the Jew presenting the news. His parents, who were still living in Rajshahi, were threatened and were given police protection. He and his parents left for Calcutta in 1968.

Mordy told us about his uncle, Gen. J.F.R.

(Jack) Jacob, who was born in Calcutta in 1923. In 1941, after hearing reports of the Holocaust, he enlisted in the Indian army, which was under British command. After completing an officer's course, he served in North Africa, Burma and Sumatra. By 1971 he had been promoted to chief of staff of the Eastern Command of the Indian army.

It was the year that East Pakistan started a guerrilla war against the Pakistani army, as the East Pakistanis (Bengalis) were very unhappy with being ruled by West Pakistan and Bengali not being accorded the status of an official language. The army retaliated by ruthlessly raping and killing local students, academics and Hindus who still remained in East Pakistan. Ten million East Pakistanis fled their homes to seek refuge in neighboring India. The leaders of the liberation struggle appealed to Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi for help, and it was left to Jacob to plan an invasion and defeat the Pakistan army.

It was a difficult project as, besides having to cross wide rivers, it was the height of the Cold War and although the USSR was an ally of India, the US, an ally of Pakistan, positioned its Seventh Fleet in the Bay of Bengal. He planned a short war and within two weeks he met General Niazi, the head of the Pakistan army in Dacca and instead of getting a hoped for cease-fire, Niazi surrendered to him. The Pakistan army of 93,000 had surrendered to a Jew and, in doing so, had created the new Muslim country of Bangladesh. It was one of the biggest surrenders in the history of warfare.

Jacob wrote a book on the war, Surrender at Dacca: Birth of a Nation, which has been translated into many languages, including Hebrew. He has been invited to Israel and has been a guest of its prime ministers. After he retired from the army, he served as the governor of the Indian states of Goa and Punjab. Today he lives in New Delhi and recently told me that Bangladesh was going to present him and Indira Gandhi (posthumously) with a gold medal this year, the 40th anniversary of independence.

WE VISITED the Liberation Museum in Dhaka, where only one panel is devoted to the Indian army, and Jacob's name is not mentioned. It reminded me of my visit to Darjeeling in northern India, the birthplace of Sherpa Tensing Norgay, who accompanied Edmund Hillary on the conquest of Mount Everest. There is a museum devoted to Norgay and his climb up Everest, and right at the end of the exhibits it says that he was accompanied by Hillary.

We decided to plan and pay for our Bangladesh trip in Kolkata, as we could not draw any money there with our Israeli credit cards. We took dollars with us for meals and any other expenses. We also took the precaution of leaving our Israeli passports and Hebrew documents in Kolkata.

Our visit to Dhaka, a city of 13 million, was spoiled by the impossible (read "impassable") traffic congestion.

Thirty years ago Dhaka had a population of only a million. The traffic consists of new cars, old buses and tens of thousands of artistically decorated threewheeled bicycle rickshaws. Rickshaw art can be described as colorful moving graffiti and adds to the character of Bangladesh.

To get anywhere took hours, but we did manage to get to the National Assembly building, a very impressive piece of architecture and the largest parliament building in the world. Our guide told us it was designed by an American, Louis Kahn. As Khan is a very common last name in Pakistan, we assumed he was a Muslim.

I later learned that he was a well-known Jewish architect from Philadelphia, and that this building is considered by some to be his finest.

We visited the harbor area on the river where ferries of all sizes take passengers to various parts of Bangladesh. There were also little boats loaded with colorful fruit, such as pineapples and green coconuts.

From Dhaka we took a bus trip to Cox's Bazaar, in the extreme southeast of the country. It was supposed to be a nine-hour trip but took 14 hours due to an accident and the great volume of traffic using the narrow, twolane road, which is in very poor condition. On the positive side, the bus was very comfortable, and there were frequent toilet stops.

At one of the rest stops, we got talking to a young photojournalist. He sometimes did work for an American newspaper and his English was very good. When we told him we were tourists, he said, "Tourists in Bangladesh! That's funny." We did not meet any white tourists, only a few aid workers.

Cox's Bazaar reminded me of Eilat, as it is a holiday resort by the sea, the Bay of Bengal, and far from the center of the country. It boasts 120 km. of sandy beach, the longest natural beach in the world. From there we rented a car with a driver and did a day trip to the southernmost corner of the country, wedged between the Bay of Bengal and Myanmar. We visited the Taknef Park, which has a herd of wild elephants. We only saw their large footprints but did manage to become attached to a few leeches.

Returning to Cox's Bazaar, we drove the last 30 km.

next to the beach, which was dotted with picturesque fishing boats, each with its high, pointed front and back. Early the following morning we walked on the beach, where souvenir peddlers were selling their wares to local and Indian tourists. There were also fishermen repeatedly walking into the sea with their nets and pulling them in, but the fish were very small. I decided not to swim, as there are many rivers emptying into the Bay of Bengal and they pass through the most populated and poorest region of the world.

Our last stop was Chittagong, the larger of Bangladesh's two ports. Our guide's name was Joji. He was born in Libya, where his Bangladeshi parents worked for many years, and was 16 when his parents returned to Bangladesh. Chittagong has a huge garment industry, and Joji took us to an industrial park with 5,000 apparel factories. We visited the yards near Chittagong, where giant ships are beached and dismantled by hand. The industry has come under international criticism for employing children and the many deaths and injuries that befall the workers. Many of the factories have large signs at the entrances saying they do not employ children. Bangladesh is the most densely populated country in the world – more than 1,000 people per square kilometer – and its 160 million people work wherever they can find it. For many, the choice is simple: work in the ship-breaking yards or starve.

One quiet corner in the heart of Chittagong is the World War II British and Commonwealth cemetery. In this immaculately kept cemetery with edge-to-edge green lawns, we found one Jewish grave with a Magen David on it, of a 19-year-old RAF sergeant from England.

We photographed it, and Joji and the caretaker came to see what we were photographing but did not ask any questions.

Our guide took us to the immaculately kept Bhatiari golf club, hoping to eat lunch in the restaurant, but it had been booked for a party. Right next to the clubhouse was a small mosque where worshipers were performing their midday prayers.

We drove to a riverbank, hoping to see the sunset, but as soon as we approached it, we were surrounded by locals and had to leave after a few minutes. Wherever we stopped, we were surrounded by locals. Most of them only had one question, "What country?" Some of them would talk to us, and many of them posed next to us for their friends to photograph. A white person is a source of intense interest.

In spite of the present and a former prime minister being women, a Bangladeshi woman can only book into a hotel if she is accompanied by her father or husband.

Unfortunately, we could not visit the Chittagong hill tracts, the most picturesque and interesting part of the country. It has a high incidence of a virulent type of malaria and, because it is a problematic tribal area, we would have had to engage a police escort.

The hotels we stayed at were good, and so were the restaurants. The problem with being a tourist in Bangladesh is that the people aren't used to tourists.

Our guide in Dhaka spoke very poor English and didn't even know which banks change foreign currency or which places to take us, while none of our drivers spoke English.

We were in Bangladesh a few days before the Id al- Adha festival, celebrated by slaughtering a male animal, and in every town and village we went through, there were rows of bulls of all sizes waiting to be sold.

I asked a few of the people we met why so many terrorists have Pakistan connections and yet one never hears of a Bangladeshi terrorist. No one could give me an answer, but maybe the answer lies in the name. Pakistan is the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, while Bangladesh is the People's Republic of Bangladesh

Re: Fw: [chottala.com] The story of Dr. Yunus and Grameen Bank by Badruddin Umar

 Dr Yunus awarded

Nobel Prize for peace

and

The column writers do not write positive or productive for guiding the politicians to take action for providing the people   work and technical education to educate them as skilled work educated technically work persons to create jobs or business fields for providing jobs and business to jobless people.

Rather they write to create opportunity so that

I)              the poor people of Bangladesh to be exploited by NGO and mohajons and

ii)        The poor people of Bangladesh to be exported in abroad as labors or maid servants.

The columns writers are now writing against of Dr Yunus to destroy Grameen Bank to create more jobless business less people just like share market Adamjee Ispahani and EPIDC mill industries have been destroyed by the politician's activities and created jobless business less people.

These jobless people are exported by Adam bepary in abroad as labors and maid servants.

At Potenga in Chittagong one kg rice was sold at 50 paisa.

Now one kg rice at Chittagong is Tk50 – 52 Tk.

In Bangladesh one US dollar was equivalent to TK 4 and 70 paisa.

Now one US dollar is equivalent to Tk 75.00

The reasons are for that.

Building of stable economy is depend and required politician's planed policy and wise activities for keeping prices stable and under control by

a)      Minimizing cost production of products

b)      Increasing rate production of products

d)     Using time and energy approximately correctly

In this way

c)      Money inflation is decreased and

e)      Revaluing the value of money is increased

Every thing price will be under control stable and peace comes in people's mind.

Grameen Bank is doing an important role as business organization by giving loan to the poor people for eradicating their poverty doing business and giving them peaceful minded Yunus is not proved as corrupt person. He is now proved as innocent business man. He has successfully done his business for eradicating poverty and created peace in poor people's mind

Nobel Prize for peace

He is  not unproductive political activist  like the unproductive muscle politicians to give muscle fruitless slogans against USA UK  standing on the footpath to create mustans or writing negative and unproductive false articles in the Bangladesh toilet papers like Mr. Umor writing to create negative and destructive attitude to destroy peace in  people's mind ..

Age should not be the reasons to remove Mr. Yunus from business activities. He is the founder business man of Grameen Bank which is the Autonomous Bank...

Here court has nothing to do and verdict of court should not be executed on him.

Because

Court did not follow the real truth of law following the rules of property title and fundamental birth right...

The actual truth is that for directing the Grameen Bank its founder fundamentally Dr. Yunus has the birth right and title right to lead the directory of Grameen Bank.

According to Bangladesh constitution law and land law of Bangladesh neither The Central Bank can not remove Dr Yunus nor does the High Court or Supreme Court have lawful right to give verdict of removing founding director of Grameen Bank.

The same rule of law is for the founding father of Bangladesh Sheik Mujib Rahman and Founding director of Grameen Bank Dr Yunus.

Central Bank has done wrong after 10 years by removing Dr Younus showing cause of Age

Court Verdict also has done same wrong.

The politicians in Bangladesh are busy for easy money making such as Madam Hasina and Madam Khalida for money are doing politics to get power and when at power a)   Madam Khalida had increased her salary 100% in 2001 b) Madam Hasina has also increased her salary 100% in 2009.

By the mercy of Almighty Allah both of  are same  quality in respect of money making  and also  both of are increasing tax and vat  for collecting  their increased salary

Such way they have

c)     Created money devaluation and money inflation

e)     Increased everything price at the rate of 100% also

f)     Created people's disasters at the rate of 100%

They have created poverty, jobless, business less people by

I)             destroying share markets,

ii)             Closing mill industries established by Adamjee Ispahany Bowani EPIDC

Destroying economy stability.

iii)            Not establishing new mill industry and

iv)            Not creating business center for doing own products business

They have made Bangladesh a market of

1)     Other county's low quality product business center

2)     Labors and maid servants exporting country

They are also creating brainless muscle politicians destroying education environment at schools college universities

C)     Doing lal nil subuj sada teacher's politics and

D)    Doing Cdal and C league student's politics.

The politicians have already made Government administration of less quality inactive party administration for doing nothing but harassing the people for money...

Mr. Mannan Mr. Badruddin Umor and others are getting chance to be column writers and are writing to create  inspiration and atmosphere to do destructive politics and negative works and making people jobless  and peace less for exporting them in abroad...

Dear Mr. Azad et al.,

I personally do not like interest still I support Dr. Yunus because he did not take interest to make money for himself rather to make the Grameen Bank project sustainable.
I appreciate concern of Badruddin Umar for Bangladesh but it is very easy to write article and at the same time it hard to work with people at root level. Reality do not match with book in to many cases. Dr. Yunus has chosen the hardest work.
I admit that the impact of microcredit on economy is not that great but it has considerably
reduced extreme poverty which the critics of Yunus could not do. Only bad people do not get noble prize. Can you tell Nelson Mandela, Yasser Arafat, Rabindrabnath Tagore and many others as agent of imperialist USA. It is because of Dr. Yunus the image of the country became very good in the world and Bangladesh could do lot of business using this image and using Dr. Yunus. Unfortunately people who talk against Rajakars because they were against and are against Bangladesh state are following rajakars by distorting the image of the country. Very unfortunately Sheik Hasina (although she is the daughter of great Bangabandhu) is nurturing those antistate people.

The story of Dr. Yunus and Grameen Bank

The government of Bangladesh did not snatch away Nobel Peace Prize from Dr. Muhammad Yunus which was bestowed on him by the imperialist powers, and in any case they have no power to do so.
They simply have removed him from his post of managing director of Grameen Bank on legal grounds. This was done according to the rules of the Bangladesh Bank and the law of the land. The merit of this action was examined by the High Court, where Yunus filed a case appealing against the government decision. The High Court dismissed the writ after hearing from both sides. The case has been dismissed again by the Supreme Court as well.
The said action of the government against Yunus was taken for certain irregularities committed by him and it is a domestic matter of Bangladesh. We find that those imperialist powers, particularly the US government and the Clinton clique, who manipulated the Nobel Prize for Yunus, have very sharply and bitterly reacted against this decision of the government.
For a long time we have been critically analysing the activities of Yunus and the Grameen Bank just for the reason that very tall claims are being made on behalf of the Bank and for himself by Yunus. He claims to have invented a theory which says that the right to secure loan is a 'birth right' of man. He claims that by extending loan to the poor, he has been successful in alleviating poverty in Bangladesh to a large extent and by 2030 he would send poverty to the museum as a relic of the past. While making this obviously ludicrous claim he exposes himself as a person who miserably fails to understand that poverty is not a thing, it is not an archaeological artefact, but the result of relations which exist between people in the course of production and other social affairs.
The Grameen Bank undoubtedly is a successful operator of small loans to rural poor like many NGOs, and has established a record in this which is far better than the ordinary commercial banks. For this achievement the Grameen Bank may be awarded an international award for its success in managing small loans. But it must be emphasised that it has nothing to do with peace. Moreover, Yunus himself was never found to protest against any kind of repressions on the people which are perpetuated by government agencies and other predator social forces. He was never found to utter a word against military interventions, aggressions and predatory wars of imperialists on countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America. He was never found to play any role in easing tensions or establishing peace between conflicting interests and groups in Bangladesh or anywhere else. He actually had never anything to do with peace. On the contrary, he had always fraternised with those who make wars and disturb peace at home and abroad. In spite of this he was awarded Nobel Prize for peace by the imperialist cliques to promote their political and other interests in Bangladesh. It was no surprise that he was given the Nobel Prize in 2006 suddenly on the eve of the military takeover of the administration in January, 2007.
Yunus managed the affairs of the Grameen Bank as an autocrat and like any other autocrat he had no compunction in committing irregularities. He was not accountable to anybody and did everything in a cavalier manner. He exercised the authority of appointing all employees and even directors. His appointment as Managing Director of the Bank had always been basically an act of his own, and in these matters the role of the Board of Directors was nominal. He took all major decisions over the head of the Board of Directors of which he was not a member. If the relation of Managing Director and the Board of Directors is examined, it will be found to be a very extraordinary arrangement. The Board always acted as an utterly subservient body to the Managing Director.
In all regards, the rules of Grameen Bank were extraordinary and the concessions granted to it by the government in conducting its affairs was in contradiction with all banking practices followed in this country. However, these administrative matters including the rules of conducting the business of Grameen Bank are not a matter of our real concern and we leave it to the Enquiry Committee which has been instituted by the government to investigate into the affairs of the Bank. Our real concern is the situation on the ground.
Here it is not possible to detail the consequences of small loan business of the Grameen Bank. But one thing must be made clear. We are not opposed to small loans or micro credit, because such loans are desperately needed by the rural poor, particularly the peasants and artisans who are engaged in production. Rural money lenders had always acted as such loan-giving agents for centuries during the feudal period and they still continue to do so. Fraudulently and mischievously, Yunus is glorified as the first 'banker to the poor' who has redeemed the poor of the countryside, particularly the poor women whereas the fact is that the traditional rural moneylenders have historically performed the task of lending to the poor. Even the NGO's who were launched by the then World Bank President Robert Macnamara in the '70s started lending to the poor before the establishment of the Grameen Bank.
The NGO's and the Grameen Bank were launched by the imperialists with the active help and co-operation of the government not for alleviating or eradicating poverty. Their principal objective in this was to perpetuate poverty and to distract the attention of the poor from political struggles for changing basic relations of production as well as social relations which create and preserve the conditions of poverty. Here there is no scope for elaborating this point but it is necessary to mention that the greatest noise is made for the Grameen Bank and its so-called mission for eradicating poverty by those who are the recognised enemies of the poor working people of the world including the people of Bangladesh. These noise makers represent the forces which exploit the poor everywhere, twist the hands of poor countries dependent on them and do not have the slightest compunction in wantonly attacking countries which dare to resist their advances. These are the countries which unhesitatingly bomb the poor in other countries and commit genocide as they recently did in Iraq and are currently doing in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Libya.
The reaction of these forces which include imperialist countries like the US, France, Britain, Germany and others of Europe and elsewhere and their lackeys and flunkeys in countries like Bangladesh is a clear indication of the interest which Dr. Yunus serves. It is insane to think that against whose removal from the post of Managing Director of Grameen Bank the imperialist powers are raising a hue and cry can, by any stretch of imagination, be a friend of the poor in any country and who can lead a programme for eradicating or even alleviating poverty of those who are subjected to the worst kind of exploitation by local ruling classes, governments and imperialist powers.
In this context, it is interesting to note that the loanees or borrowers of Grameen Bank, in no area of Bangladesh, has so far brought out any demonstration in favour or Yunus and against the government decision to remove him from the post of Managing Director. Recently, a handout of Grameen Bank says that about three million loanees have signed a protest statement against Yunus' removal. But demonstrations and protest statements are very different acts. It is very easy to get any paper signed by the loanees by local Grameen Bank officials.
And even then, there is no certain evidence that such a statement has actually been signed by 3 million loanees. The whole matter may be a lie and a fraudulent propaganda on behalf of a section of Grameen Bank officials loyal to Yunus.
In spite of this lack of support for Yunus from the Grameen Bank, loanees who are said to be the "real owners" of the Bank, it is amazing to see the kind of international support organised in favour of Yunus. They eulogise the achievements of Dr. Yunus in order of protect his position in the Grameen Bank. Under the presidentship of a former president of Ireland, a 'committee of friends of Grameen' has been formed with its headquarters in Paris. On 30th March in a question-answer session of the French National Assembly, the French foreign minister Alain Juppe said, ''the Grameen Bank's micro credit model has been unanimously recognised as a 'magnificently successful' poverty alleviation tool and replicated across the world, particularly to help empower women in developing countries'' (Daily Star 1.4.2011). This statement of the French minister is no exception. The likes of this statement are being issued regularly by imperialist representatives and their flunkeys in Bangladesh. But the fact is that except the people who issue such statement no one recognises Grameen Bank micro credit model as 'magnificently successful' in alleviating poverty in Bangladesh. No one recognises the role to Grameen Bank in empowering women in Bangladesh.
Women in Bangladesh are subjected to various kinds of exploitations and repressions all over the country, particularly in the rural areas. The poor women in the countryside are still the most oppressed among the people and are regularly victimised by the rural exploiters and oppressors including the mullahs who often deliver fatwas against them. Dr. Yunus of Grameen Bank fame was never found to protest, in any form, against such atrocities.
It does not require any great learning or wisdom to theoretically understand that poverty alleviation and empowerment of woman have noting to do with money-lending business whatever may be the terms of such lending. Even a modest survey of the situation on the ground in the rural areas reveals to any one that there has not been any perceptible poverty alleviation through disbursement of rural credit by the Grameen Bank or any other NGOs, though there may be some exceptional cases where some loanees have been able to improve their financial situation by making clever use of such loans.
No elaborate discussion on the 'achievement' of Yunus is necessary to emphasise the point that his main achievement is management of the lending operation of the Grameen Bank. Its business has been extended to very large areas in Bangladesh, the number of borrowers from the Bank has reached, according to their own statement, up to more than eight million and that through a special mechanism of control its rate or realisation is 98%! This success would not have been possible without massive foreign financial contribution and many special concessions and privileges granted by the government to this Bank which are not available to other commercial banks.
The function of this banking business of Grameen is no different from that of traditional small loan business operated for hundreds of years by rural money lenders called mohajons. Basically, it helps small production carried out by peasants and artisans and various kinds of small scale economic activities. Thus the relentless propaganda carried out by imperialist circles and their flunkeys in Bangladesh has nothing to do with the actual work and 'achievements' of the Grameen Bank and its famous Managing Director Dr. Yunus claims that the eight million loanees are the owners of the Bank and that they are regularly paid dividends. This claim is completely false and fraudulent. Any investigation on the ground reveals that no loanee of the Bank has any ownership document and more of them has any paper related to dividend no one reports to have ever received any dividend. But the stereotyped and ceaseless imperialist propaganda goes on and their international media, both electronic and print, extensively carry out such propaganda to which many well-meaning people fall victims.
Bangladesh Bank and the government of Bangladesh have removed Yunus from the post of Managing Director. The imperialists are saying that without him Grameen Bank would cease to function as an 'alleviaor of poverty' and will lose its character. It is a completely false and motivated propaganda because, as has been said earlier, it has no such character. What actually may happen after his removal is a series of reforms in Grameen Bank's operational practice which will bring some relief to the borrowers and reduce the profit of the Bank.
It may also reduce the inflow of foreign capital into the Bank and weaken the position of Dr. Yunus as an agent of multinational corporations who promote his 'social business'.
The imperialists, through their massive image-building propaganda have tried to elevate Yunus to the position of a demigod, a redeemer of the poor and the downtrodden. They have tried to portray his activities as a panacea of poverty and a means of empowerment of women. The main objective in building up the image of Yunus in this manner is twofold. First to use him for opening investment opportunities for exploiting surplus from the poor of the country and secondly, and more importantly to use him for political purposes. This became quite obvious when he was awarded the Nobel peace prize in 2006, on the eve of military takeover of the Bangladesh government in which the US and the Europeans had a hand. Subsequently, Yunus attempted to usurp political power taking advantage of the then existing situation by trying to organise his own political party. His attempt failed miserably because of his complete personal inability to understand the political process and to take appropriate stops for building a party. Consequently, he soon proved himself to be a political flop. But the imperialists have not given up the hope of using him as their pawn in the political game which they may need to play in times of crisis. It is for this reason that the Norwegian government, after accusing him of financial dishonesty quickly retracted their position in order to save his image by exonerating him from charges which they themselves made against him.
The consternation in the imperialist circles after the removal of Yunus from the position of Managing Director of the Bank and the lining up of the NGOs and the gentlemen of the Bangladesh civil society behind him has completely exposed the true character of Yunus. It has also exposed the faces of persons and institutions in this country who act in the interest of imperialism as their flunkeys. It has clearly demonstrated that Yunus, the much advertised 'banker to the poor' does not really represent the interest of the poor and the downtrodden in this country, but that of their national and international exploiters and oppressors. Whether may be the conspiracy of the imperialists, it will be difficult for them to use Dr. Yunus, with his "shining" anti-people and anti-poor image, as their political instrument on any future occasion of political crisis.
