Dear Abid Bahar
Bravo!
The only correction i would like to make is you saw him in Mr. M.A. Aziz Janaza where Late Fazlul Quader Chowdhury and Shiekh Mujibur Rahman
met for the last time and the year was 1970 just after the national election. It shows how magnanimous politicians of those days were. Those days politician
use to differ politically but their personal relationship was always above everything. I think the present politicians should learn something from these leaders.
With best wishes

Fazlul Quader Chy, the lion of Chittagong that I saw walking away to his parked car
Abid Bahar

It was most probably in 1972 or 1973,  I saw Fazlul Quader Chowdhury at the railway parade ground. He came to attend the Janaza of Awami League's most probably Hannan or Jahur Ahamed. I saw FQC a tall man truly looked like a lion. He appeared to be a man of dignity and surely showed humility to come to attend the janaza. I saw the lion of Chittagong walking away to his parked car.

Yes, if the university was established in Comilla, neglecting the cosmopolitan port city of Chittagong, he would be a legend of Comilla/ Bangladesh. The anti FKC hatred truly began by some narrow -minded anti chittagonian people from the movement of the University's inception. Again it was due to him that many people of this great city irrespective of their origins are now highly placed at home and abroad.

I don't know for sure how FKC was involved in the liberation war, nothing seems true of what the pathological lier Hasina and her politicized court says; but I have some very good Hindu friends from Rangunia, who says that he was a good man and actually helped them. Hearing this from local Hindu people in a family gathering actually shocked me. I don't know what is true.

It is true during the liberation war Hindus suffered the most. Around 1974 I had visited a very close Hindu friend's home in Rangunia, which my friend told me was burnt down by the local razakars. When explainning it, he seemed tormented by the event. No doubt like in every corner of Bangladesh, Hindus suffered the most, but I hope the present politicized Hasina's Kangaroo court  inspired by the Indian Bengali dadas like Pronobdas is not helping behind the scene trying the war crimes and torturing the accused and in the process is trying to impose the puppet AL government's anti Islamic but pro-Indian agenda.

Not as a matter of tit for tat but I think that when BNP returns to power, Khalida should rightfully put Hasina in trial on collaboration charges to find out the whereabouts of Hasina and the Sheikh family during the war time, (at the time in Dhaka) and how and why her family was financed and fed by the Pakistani army and also find out the mystery behind Mujib surrendering to the Pakistan army. How he could save his family but causing a genocide and now Mujib is the "father of the nation," and Zia becomes a "razakar". Surely, Hasina the worst house wife turned an administrator should be tried for her many crimes including her illegal connectivity and seeling the country to India through Banglar Mirjafors like Pronob Mukherjees.

Dear Hasan Mahmud
I would like to thank you for the paper clippings.
In Farzeen's article it show how brave her grand father was when he replied to the Indian Army. It reminds me when i read about Raja Poru got
defeated and brought before Alexander the Great and was asked by Alexander how he should be treated? Raja Poru bravely replied "Like a King".
By hearing this brave reply Alexander gave back Raja Poru's kingdom.

As Chittagonian we should be all proud of Farzeen's grand father Late A.K.M. Fazlul Quader Chowdhury.

He was a great patriot and when he died of mysterious reasons in Dhaka Central Jail in the year 1973 their were few hundred thousand people attended his Janaza.
The people of Chittagong has really showed their last respect to this great son of the soil.  We should not forget his contribution for Chittagong. Such as
Chittagong University (which was suppose to be in Comilla), Chiitagong Marine Academy (which was suppose to be in Karachi), and Chittagong Engineering
College.
I would like to say that he was the last Lion of Chittagong.

I think he believed what Tipu Sultan said 'I would like to live like a Lion for two days instead of a rat for two hundred days'.

Thank you again for the paper clippings.

Suranjit made a comment that I have seen in TV and he said,
"Bage dhorle chare kintu Hasina dhorele chare na, Yunus mia k ki charche ?". What a dirty and filthy comment by an MP who is the chairman of the Constitution ammendment  committee. Now you can imagine what a dictator is Hasina who dictate the supreme court like Iahya and Tikkha Khan. And how dirty is her sycophat who can tell the great man Professor Yunus "Yunus Mia". Such type of sycophatns are actually responsible for the death of Bangabandhu which next generation must know.  We could not punish those real killer I hope next generation will. Those dirty AL people did the same thing like those of notorious Pakistani army and rajakar and thus reduced the popularity of Bangabandhu.

[chottala.com] Bangladesh hikes solar power production

Bangladesh hikes solar power production

By Mizan Rahman

Dhaka

http://www.gulf-times.com/mritems/images/2011/5/29/2_437646_1_248.jpg

One of the sets of solar panels set up by the IDCOL

Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), the state owned financial institution, is set to install 2000 solar panel-based mini-grid power plants in the off-grid areas of Bangladesh.

"Under this programme, with an average capacity of 25KW, plants will be installed in the off-grid areas to produce 113kWh electricity per year," IDCOL CEO Islam Sharif said in Dhaka yesterday.

According to a survey, a solar mini-grid of 25kW size can save kerosene consumption of 60 households or small shops each of which consumes 8l of kerosene per month, which finally save 9,400 tones of kerosene per year.

A solar mini-grid of 25kW capacity will generate electricity for 4.5 hours and produce 113kWh electricity that finally reduce demand for 82GWh of electricity from the national grid per year, the study said.

According to the power division, IDCOL will select some non-government organisations or private entities as partner organisation to implement the programme on the basis of management capacity, financial strength and micro-finance experience.

The CEO said IDCOL would assess the proposals submitted by private entities, approve those on set guidelines and disburse grants and soft loans to them to implement it.

"Private entities will be responsible for selection of areas and target consumers. They will install the plants and supply electricity to the consumers and obliged to operate the plant for at least the loan period," Islam said.

Bangladesh has a vast experience in installing solar home system in remote and off grid areas, but the idea to install solar mini-grid is unique.
Recently the government has taken up a pilot project to using solar energy in irrigation pumps that is also a new thing in energy sector.

Every month, more than 30,000 solar home systems are being installed in Bangladesh that added one and half MW of electricity. IDCOL along with other NGO are engaging in installing solar home system.

To promote the programme in Bangladesh, the government lifted all sorts of tax and VAT from the renewable equipment.
