[chottala.com] Govt needs to reconstitute BDR on its own

New Age - May 7, 2008

IT IS a source of growing alarm that senior members of the ruling Awami League alliance, including some influential ministers, are repeatedly indicating that governments in neighbouring countries will be asked to play a role in the reconstitution of the Bangladesh Rifles, after the decision to disband the border guards in the wake of the Pilkhana Massacre. The latest statement to this effect came from the State Minister for Home Affairs Tanjim Ahmed Sohel Taj on Tuesday after the BDR chief met with home minister Sahara Khatun, as reported in Wednesday's New Age. According to Tanjim, the government will likely seek help from neighbouring countries for the training and modernisation of the new force.

We are alarmed by these plans for a number of reasons, the principal having to do with the strategic implications of our national borders with both Myanmar and India being guarded by a force that feels even fractionally beholden to these foreign governments for either their equipment or their training. Surely the implications of this move, even in a token form, cannot be lost on the present regime's senior leaders. Tasked with the immense responsibility of preserving a country's territorial integrity, border guards play one of the key roles in the functioning of a nation state, though that role is often invisible, in the form of deterrence. If good fences make good neighbours, undermining the standing of the soon-to-be reconstituted border security agency by seeing them trained or outfitted by governments that share geographical borders with the country is not only counter productive in terms of martial strategy but potentially dangerous. While the government has expressed its desire to involve New Delhi and Naypyidaw in the BDR reconstitution, the US has offered to lend a hand in the effort as well. Ironically, these are also the three countries whose geo-strategic interests may potentially require them to violate Bangladesh's territorial integrity.

It is pertinent to mention here that both Naypyidaw and New Delhi not only authorised oil and gas exploration vessels to violate Bangladesh's territorial boundaries to conduct surveys, but refused to withdraw from our territorial waters despite repeated protests from Dhaka last year. It does not speak well of neighbourly relations that both these violations took place at a time when Bangladesh was at its weakest political juncture, governed by a military-backed interim government. The present regime cannot ignore the fact that every year, scores of Bangladeshi civilians are shot and killed by the Indian Border Security Forces – a reality that has received repeated focus but has persisted nonetheless. These facts themselves are enough to indicate that border relations between Bangladesh and its two neighbours in question have been troubled at the best of times. The Awami League-led alliance government cannot afford to ignore these stark realities.

Last but not least, we must remind the government that its plan to reconstitute the BDR with the help of neighbouring governments is offensive to the national sentiment of independence and sovereignty. We cannot overstate the importance of constructive neighbourly relations across South Asia for regional progress and security, but the government must ultimately retain full control of some key arms of the state – without exception.

Sunita Paul's accusations only depict her inane psychosis

Habib Siddiqui

Sunita Paul claims that AL sympathizers are very disturbed about her write-ups on the Peel Khana massacre, asking her to refrain from writing. She even discloses two such letters from two sympathizers, although we truly don't know if these were not cooked-up letters to deceive her readers, something that is quite habitual with her. After all, she has not answered my question as to how did she come to learn of what was discussed between Joy and Sohel Taj. Her first-hand narrative of what the two individuals had discussed in their meeting is simply too unbelievable for any rational intelligent being to take her seriously.

Of pressing interest to us is her claim that on April 14 she received a letter from an ex-ambassador of Bangladesh. In this one, unlike the two previous notes, she does not share the name of the individual writer. Given her history of lies, deception, deceit and rumor-mongering, how seriously can we take her on this matter? She claims that the ambassador wrote: "I have gone through some classified documents related to the BDR massacre from the investigation files of probe committees, which evidently show that, mostly Jamaat and BNP leaders were behind this massacre." Her concoction cannot go any better! I have difficulty in believing that such "classified" information on investigation is now made available to an ex-ambassador, whoever he was. Interestingly, Sunita herself is not unaware of this inanity, and as such to dilute our doubt to her make-believe story, she also questions how the ambassador could have seen those "classified" documents related to the BDR massacre from the investigation files of probe committees? Well tried to guess our doubts, but no cigar yet!

It is said that liars like thieves leave their trails behind. There are too many loose ends left by Sunita Paul, too! Just ponder on the last paragraph where the ambassador presumably threatens her: "Moreover, for the sake of national security, Bangladesh government may enforce ban on the online editions of those newspapers publishing your write ups, if you will not please start writing and reporting the truth. For such gracious help, not only Awami League and the present government shall be grateful but, we shall even be ready to duly compensate your valued cooperation in due course of time." How believable are the above claims? Earth is flat! How does the ex-ambassador know that government will enforce ban on on-line publication? More importantly, how about the promise of duly compensating Sunita as a hush money? Such accusations sound too silly, too unbelievable to take her seriously!

Sunita is obviously angry with all individuals that disagree with her yellow journalism, including those who had unmasked her true evil self. She writes, "Some of the people term me as a ´plagiarist´ whiles some as ´fraud´ or ´liar´.. Why? Just because, I am not bowing down to the immoral proposal by the ruling party in writing in exchange of money. These blogger are hired ´web terrorists´ of the ruling regime in Dhaka." Silly conclusions by a dumb-headed person! First, she fails to offer any refutation against the charge of plagiarism that was made against her by blogger Mashuqur Rahman in his Daily Star article. And then she brands everyone that questioned her veracity as being 'web terrorists' for the ruling party! Such a charge is not only ludicrous it is also insolent and absolutely false. She wants us to believe that all those who unmasked her are upset for her not bowing down to money. Please, spare us from such self-applauding! Why not Sunita disclose who the gentleman was that had offered to buy her silence?

Sunita is very upset about my questioning the reliability of her so-called interviews and meetings with others. I questioned her interview with Kazi Azizul Huq of the Khilafat Andolon (http://bangladeshkh elafatandolan. blogspot. com/2008/ 06/interview- with-sunita- paul.html) since for a dumb and deaf person it is very difficult to conduct such without letter (or email) correspondences, which usually take a few exchanges to and fro to complete. I am interested to know from Mr. Huq how the interview took place.

I am also very intrigued by the Khilafat Andolon's website. Not only does this post Mr. Huq's statements, but also some exchanges with Mr Benkin, a pro-Israeli Zionist propagandist with very negative feelings about Muslims (http://bangladeshkh elafatandolan. blogspot. com/2009_ 02_01_archive. html).

In the same link, you will also notice a letter from Sunita published that was sent to Mr. Huq, where she writes a letter of condolence for the death of Hafez Hamidullah. In that she writes, "May G-d reward him for his life long dedication towards humanity and good to this world." Note that the word God is spelled as G-d, a common practice among the Jewish people! So, what is the true religious identity of Sunita?

As to Sunita's blog site, she now claims that it was a false blog with which she had no connection. However, such is news to me. Contrary to her claim, on a thorough search in the Internet, I could not find a single citation where she had denounced the site herself. The only information we have on that site is through the courtesy of Mr. Benkin, who in a letter to Ranjan Chowdhury, wrote, "Ms. Sunita Paul has very angrily refuted the post in her name.  She claims that the blog was started by an imposter, not her." ( http://daily- khabor.blogspot. com/2009_ 02_15_archive. html) So, the matter was probably limited to those two persons and not shared broadly.

The readily available materials point out that Sunita is working in cahoots with groups whose primary motivation is to weaken our national unity for the Israeli interest. Her own writings have shown that she is an anti-Muslim bigot who holds negative feelings against Bangladeshis. Truth, sagacity, honesty and trust are not in her vocabulary. She cannot be trusted with anything to do with our people. Naturally, she is hostile to anyone that questions her immoral intent, and conveniently dumps him/her as an anti-West person, and of course, a Jew and Christian hater. No, I am not surprised by such false accusations from a literally summum, bukmun and oom'yoon!

Like a loser and moron, she mistakenly assumes that I am licking feet of western people for survival. That is utter nonsense! I feel pity for her! Surely, we can't blame someone who prostitutes her intellect to make a filthy living, who has not known any better. With her low intellectual prowess, she can't think better. She assumes everyone must be doing her kind of professional (or lack of intellectual) prostitution. For her information, it is the corporate America that has been licking my feet for the past quarter century to solve their complicated problems, to lead and guide them so as to function better, to execute change -- something that it could not do on its own. My expertise in various areas of specialization has been highly sought out and valued in corporate America. No wonder that until quite recently I have held the covetous position of a Director with one of the largest global companies. Let me repeat, unlike habitual liars like Sunita Paul that give bad names to journalism, I don't have to depend on anyone's handouts. One simply wonders: whose blowjob this Monica is doing! Shame on her psychosis!

Sunita Paul: The International (Wo)man of Mystery

Apr 12, 2009

Sunita Paul:

  • Deaf
  • Dumb
  • Born in an affluent family in Kochin
  • Twice masters (what the hell is that?)
  • A Fraud
  • A Plagiarist, and
  • A Liar
The first 4 are very easy to prove. Let's see what "Ms." Paul put up as her biography on American Chronicle, a website that regularly publishes her writing.

Wondering why I included an image instead of just linking to her bio? Because "Ms." Paul's bio has a mysterious habit of changing, just like some of her writing has a habit of disappearing (more on that later)

Can we agree on the first four items in my description of Ms. Paul? Then lets move on to the other three.

Sunita Paul: Fraud
Rest assured, I do not call Ms. Paul a "fraud" without any basis. First, a little lesson in American identity, and usage of English. I have spent half of my life in the USA, and people never, ever, describe someone in a publication with reference to their family background, simply because it is considered [a] rude and [b] having no bearing on a person's ability to perform. "Affluent family" is a strangely Asian affectation. Calling a mute person "dumb" is also typically an Asian trait. Lastly, no native speaker of English would also use the phrase "Twice masters" to describe two masters degrees--the common usage is "double masters" or simply "two masters." So we can safely conclude that this description was not written by an American who works for American Chronicle.

Question is, did "Ms." Sunita Paul write this? And if "she" did not write this, did "she" never see a glaring inaccuracy in her own bio on a site where she regularly publishes?

I am, of course, referring to the wonderful town of "Kochin" where "Ms." Paul was allegedly born.

See, this has been nagging me for a while. Paul is a Bangla last name. There is no rule that a Bangali from India could not be born in Kerala, where "Kochin" is located, and there is no reason why it could not be an established and "affluent" family there. But seemed a little unusual. But I dug a little, and to understand the implications of the results, let's play a little game. Raise your hand if you know the name of the town you were born in. Keep it raised if you don't know how to spell it, and lower it if you know how to spell it. How many hands do you have up?

Turns out our dear "Ms." Paul, this "twice masters" in Political Science and Journalism, would have one hand up in the air. Because there is no city/town/hamlet/ village in India called Kochin. There is, however, a famous city called "Cochin", since 1967 called "Kochi." However, in its many incarnations, it has never been spelled "Kochin."

Could this be true that "Ms." Paul does not know how to spell the name of her city of birth? Conclusion: "she" has never been to Kochi/Cochin- -only heard it mentioned in conversation and decided to use that as the birthplace of "her" fictional persona. "She" did not do any research, but just started using that in the fictitious bio.

Verdict:

Sunita Paul: Plagiarist.
Mashuqur Rahman, a blogger who has done ground-breaking research into the genocide of 1971 by the Pakistani Army against the civilians of Bangladesh, broke a story about the Chief of Staff of the Bangladesh Army being involved in transactions at an Army-owned bank that clearly violated banking regulations. His writeup on this was published in 2007, and was picked up by the media.

Mashuqur wrote in October of 2007:
Not only are General Moeen and his brother, Iqbal, on Trust Bank's board of directors, they are also borrowers of large sums of money from the bank. According to a prospectus filed by Trust Bank before its IPO, General Moeen had a loan with an outstanding balance of Taka 9,969,215 at the end of 2005. By the end of 2006, the outstanding amount had been reduced to Taka 3,315,323.

Sunita Paul wrote in 2009:
General Moeen and his brother, Iqbal, on Trust Bank´s board of directors, they are borrowers of large sums of money from the bank. According to a prospectus filed by Trust Bank before its IPO, General Moeen had a loan with an outstanding balance of Tk. 9,969,215 at the end of 2005. By the end of 2006, the outstanding amount had been reduced to Tk. 3,315,323.

Notice the usage in the first sentance. After the 2nd comma, Mashuqur's sentence continues with a "they" and it fits perfectly.
Not only are General Moeen and his brother, Iqbal, on Trust Bank's board of directors, they are also borrowers of large sums of money from the bank.
"Ms." Paul's writing contains the same "they" after the same comma, but it makes no sense. The pronoun appears out of nowhere.
General Moeen and his brother, Iqbal, on Trust Bank´s board of directors, they are borrowers of large sums of money from the bank.
Compare other sentences in the same paragraph for word-for-word, punctuation- for-punctuation, similarity.

I could cite other examples, but I will leave it to you, dear reader, as an exercise.

Conclusion: "Ms." Paul lifted this from the post by Mashuqur Rahman, made a minor change and did not bother fixing the grammatical error resulting from "her" change. She is a plagiarist-- a thief and a cheat.

Are you wondering where the article by "Ms." Sunita Paul is, and why it is not linked in the quote above?

Funny you should ask. Since Mashuqur Rahman accused "Ms." Sunita Paul of plagiarism, the article, titled "Ruling party getting set to try Bangladesh Generals" has vanished from the American Chronicle site. But due to the wonderful Google Cache, the bane of existance for all online liars, it still lives on. You can find it here, and see the Google result here. "She" actually tried to destroy the evidence when accused of being a plagiarist.

But wait.. what is this I see? Oh my! "Ms." Paul may have been able to remove the article from American Chronicle, but it is also on Global Politician, Priyo.com, and some other sites. So you would be able to make the comparison after all.

Sunita Paul: Liar
In "her" hatchet job trying to defend the plagiarism allegation, "Ms." Paul launched a vicious ad hominem attack against Mashuqur Rahman, that mostly revolves around Mr. Rahman's alleged allegiance to Awami League. While saner readers may ask what Mr. Rahman's political philosophy has to do with "Ms." Paul's plagiarism, it is obvious that such plain logic escapes "Ms." Paul.

Mr. Rahman may actually be the first to agree that he has questioned the transparency of General Moeen's finances, or criticized certain mainstream newspapers and their editors. After all, "Ms." Paul cites examples of Mr. Rahman's harsh criticism of New Age:
Mashuqur Rahman is also a harsh critic of Bangladeshi press. Commenting on Dhaka´s prominent English language newspaper, The New Age, he wrote "most progressive English language newspaper in Bangladesh, The New Age, published an editorial yesterday that offered no support to the cartoonist and backed the government´s decision to jail the young man for retelling a joke that even Islamists themselves have published before."
What does that have to do with the price of tea in China, I mean, the documented allegation that "Ms." Paul is a plagiarist? Had she cited Mr. Rahman falsely accusing others of plagiarism, then at least "she" could establish a pattern.

Let's see if we can parse this logic. Mashuqur Rahman criticized the press and the Army chief in Bangladesh. Ergo, his statement that Sunita Paul is a plagiarist is [a] True, or [b] False.

You would be correct in concluding that "Ms." Paul being a plagiarist has nothing to do with what Mr. Rahman thought of certain newspapers and their editors. Obviously, at least the Daily Star seems to take the criticism in good grace--they just published Mr. Rahman's op-ed where he charges that "Ms." Paul is a plagiarist and a cheat.

So while "Ms." Paul is trying to defend the Daily Star from Mr. Mashuqur Rahman's criticism, they themselves are publishing Mr. Rahman's article about Sunita Paul. Oh, the irony.

"Ms." Paul ends "her" rant with this graph:
Mashuqur Rahman calls me a plagarist and cheat. He did not cite one example behind such nasty allegation. I have never violated any copyright of any publication, ever. Wherefrom he invented this plagarism theory? Why he terms me as a 'cheat'? Just because I am not also one of the lap-dogs of Bangladesh Awami League like him?
Mr. Rahman cited chapter and verse, including links to the actual articles that he wrote in 2007, and "Ms." Paul plagiarized in 2009. "Ms." Paul lied outright in the above paragraph.

So we resolve that "Ms." Paul may not have "twice masters" and may never even seen the city of "Kochin" with her own eyes, let alone be born there, but she is a "thrice masters": Fraud, Plagiarist and a Liar.

I should think once again to do the same in future. Thank you for such writing.

Whoever (s)he is, I find her commentary to be much more interesting and incisive than what is available from other sources.

I notice a sudden rush to attack the messenger. What about the message? Her message appears to be non-partisan and she discusses issues openly what everyone in Bangladesh should be discussing.

The fact is Bangladesh "Democracy" thus far has been a farce hoisted upon the people by the criminal mafia organizations. Crime has skyrocketed in 3 short months! In 3 months Awami League criminals are making up for lost time. Just a few days ago ministers nephew was caught with counterfeit money and then released!

Which other democratically elected political organization has so many family members calling the shots behind the scene? One can argue the AL has turned into a crime family working under guise of politics.

Is there any competent political party? NO. there is NONE. Please let's talk about that. Stick to the message. Bangladesh is a failed state. Democracy has shown itself to not be an option to alleviate the massive poverty and corruption.

What is the solution to Bangladesh's ills? Let us discuss that instead of engaging in unfounded nationalism.

Excessive Nationalism is a mental sickness that keeps the nationalist from making cogent decisions.

Nationalism is a sickness clearly evident in most Bangalis. We see it in the 2 illiterate women leaders of the 2 major political organizations.

These mentally sick women spout nationalistic rhetoric to placate the masses, and then spend all of their time collecting bribes and figuring out how to damage the other party. They don't know anything about nation building. We see it in the Student political parties killing each other. It's everywhere.

How many of Bangladesh politicians are honest? how many have the minimum level of education required to deal with the needs of modern governance? Maybe one or two.

Just 2 days ago a ministers nephew was caught with few million counterfeit Taka. And then released. A mass murderer is now minister. A corrupt illiterate woman is PM. Not to mention ALL circumstantial evidence points to several politicians of the current government being involved in the killing of its own military leaders! These are all hall marks of a failed state.

Outside of rampant criminal activity/corruption /extra-judicial killings/incompeten ce, maybe you can educate us on what is functioning in Bangladesh government.

Please stay on topic. Let's discuss the message, not the messenger. Sunita Paul writes about the very issues Bangladeshis need to surmount. As in Afghanistan, Bangladesh is functioning solely because of grass roots organizations. No need to get emotional about reality.

I strongly suspect Salah Uddin Shoaib Chowdhury of Weekly Blitz behind this fraud "Sunita Paul". This character is nothing but a new sinister game by deceitful right-wing cirle.

There's nothing wrong with being non-partisan. But you can't seriously expect all of us to not take an anti-bangladesh, plagiarist, liar and possibly a fictitious character masquerading as a journalist to task. That's all that the bloggers are trying to do.

PLus on most occasion she writes trash. Does anyone remember her post on army wives?

MH finds her commentary to be "much more interesting and incisive than what is available from other sources".
Sure. Becasue (s)he steals from other people's hard worked literary pieces/articles and pass on as hers.

The fraud pretending to be one 'Sunita Paul' has plagiarized from top notch world class news papers like New York Times. She will soon be charged for violating Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
What would you say if/when Sunita Paul decides to talk nonsense about you – just because someone was paying her lots of money to do that or that she decided one day she did not think you are good for Bangladesh anymore?
If you think you're being cogent by sticking your head in the sand –make that your sole problem – not a national one. You say "Please stay on topic." If you are literate enough to comprehend the post – it is all about fraudulence of one mysterious Sunita Paul (not Bangladeshi politics).

Zia, by 'she' if you mean Sunita Paul you are being delusional.
'She' is like a hired gun – writes mostly for the Zionists. And she'd write for anybody against abybody if (s)he liked the money amount. And writing is easy for her because she does not do her research or analysis she just copies from highly acclaimed writers and bloggers.
She is worse than the criminals 'she' supposedly 'writes' against.

Sarkar, you are not the only one having this nagging suspicion. That worm SSC has been charged with sedition couple of times. But his handler Richard Belkin got him loose every time.

Fariha, thank you for your sound wisdom dear. Most of the comments above was getting me frustrated.

[chottala.com] In the name of freedom fighters nobody has got any right to do any loot pat of govt property.

Dear all chottala readers,

In the name of freedom fighters nobody has got any right to do any loot pat of govt property. Before liberation of Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sk. Mujibur Rahman used to tell West Pakistanis were taking everything from our East Pakistan (presently Bangladesh) and that is why after a long nine months of liberation war Bangladesh came into existence as a separate independent country. The ideology for which Bangladesh was created, immediately after liberation war what we have seen Bangladesh was made a place of "hariloot" by many of the Awami Leaguers in the name of freedom fighters and started loot pat the whole country. In the practical field what we have seen, the actual liberation war done by our revolt Bengal Regiment army under the supreme command of General M.A.G. Osmani arranging the whole freedom fighters by dividing it into different sectors under S-force (Shafiullah), Z-force (Ziaur Rahman), and K-force (Khaled Musharraf). What these Awami League leaders did at that time, by leaving the innocent public in the gun points of Pakistani soldiers fled to India at that time and by staying in a luxurious apartments and hotels in Calcutta free of cost with free fooding provided to them by the Indian govt enjoying in full swing(I think you can well imagine and understand what I mean) for the long nine months of liberation war while our actual freedom fighters (Bengal regiment army, with 'few months arms trained common people including our enthusiastic freedom lover School, College and University students') by risking their life, fought valiantly by moving from jungles to jungles day and night for nine months in the whole Bangladesh border area. I request again to our newly emerged freedom fighters and selfish Awami Leagures at present, please don't invite another 1975 which took the life of our Bangabandhu with his whole families except two, because of your activities. I still remember Sk. Mujibur Rahman in one of his meeting in Ramna Race course maidan told, "Don't utter Bangabandhu by your filthy mouth again as you have already send Bangabandhu under the grave". He further told "many countries are getting gold mines but I have got mines of thieves, wherever I see, I see all thieves around me". You can well understand to whom Bangabandhu really meant by that. His finger was directed to his own Awami leaguers and nobody else as there was nobody except Awami league at that time. Now the same type of groups, after winning of Awami league with overwhelming seats again started to peep through the windows of Awami League claiming to occupy the govt buildings as their right. To fight as a freedom fighter does not mean to occupy the whole govt establishments in their name as an exchange of their freedom fighting. Real patriotic freedom fighters will never ask like this. I doubt whether such type of their activities will bring again another 1975.

Dowllah.

[chottala.com] BDR masacare: Future restructure: Only name and uniform change will not do.

Dear all,
I have lost many of my colleagues in the BDR massacre. Now government should bring the culprits to the justice. It is obvious that some culprits will not be caught in the net. So, gradually all the members of the BDR ( who will survive after the judgment) may be sent for retirement with 25%benefits  only. This is the tradition of military forces that for the fault of one everybody should get punishment as seniors could not control the juniors and colleagues failed to motivate colleagues. Fresh soldiers should be recruited with proper verification. Once breach of trust has taken place, nothing good can be expected out of present soldiers. Fresh recruits should be given only salaries, nothing else. Govt should not promise for any extra welfare for newly recruited soldiers of BDR.
Cheers
