Students Volunteers Festival 2011 ended Chakaria, Cox's Bazar
Chakaria Municipality Election 2011 Mayoral Candidates Promises to Stop Sexual Harassment and VAW!
Chakaria Municipality Election 2011 mayoral candidates promises, if they win the election, they will takes steps to women friendly municipality, ensure women equal participation in the Municipality activities, ensure women equal rights and status of the women and active participation to run social and political movement to stop violence against women(VAW) at the municipality areas. These was states at the concluding session of the Student Volunteers Festival 2011 with the participation of all mayoral candidates of Chakaria Municipality shows their solidarity to the demand of the festival.

2 days Student Volunteers Festival -2011 was organize to raise social and political movement to Stop Sexual Harassments was held at Chakaria Bijoy Mancha on last 9-10 January 2011 was organized by Upazila Social Entrepreneur Council, Women Entrepreneurs Council, and Student Facilitators Groups with the help of Upazila Administration and ISDE Bangladesh.
Mr. Haji Bashirul Alam President Upazila Social Entrepreneur Council was presided over the promising session while S M Nazer Hossain, Executive Director of ISDE Bangladesh and Umme Kulshum Minu President Upazila Women Entrepreneurs Council welcome the mayoral candidates. Current Mayor and candidates Jafar Alam, Professor AKM Giash Uddin, Alhaj Abul Hashem, Monowar Alam, Fazlul Karim Saidee and Nurul Islam Haider were shows the solidarity and describe if they elected hwo Chakaria Municipality will be violence free and how to ensure equal participation of women in municipality activities. Mr. S M Majur Hossain leaders of Upazila Social Entrepreneur Council conducted the session.
All the candidates show solidarity of the students festival theme and demand. They shows anxious and concern all times some youth engages eve teasing, sexual harassment and VAW related crime with the support from power in party and their leaders. If the local politician can not support them, they can not spread out and it must be controlled. The candidates also promises Municipality will be really Community Services Delivery Institutions (CSDI) and where men and women get equal opportunity to participate. They also declared if they elected, they will declared Chakaria Municipality will be eve teasing and sexual harassment free municipality in future.
All the candidates described if they win the election how they stop Violence against women, Eve teasing & Early marriage, Promote women participation in local political process, Ensure effectiveness of local services delivery institutions (CSDI), easy access in local CSDIs and establish social security and protection for the voters. All the candidates share their plan and programme and promised if they were elected by the voters on next 27th January election they will take steps with the involvement of local community, government mechanism and support of local social and voluntary organization, NGOs to stop Violence against women, eve teasing, early marriage, promote women participation in local political process, ensure effectiveness of CSDI, easy access in local CSDIs and establish social security and protection for the communities.
This also mentioned that, ISDE Bangladesh in cooperation with CSDF/Steps trying to develop students groups to social chance. Students groups from 12 secondary schools participated the 2 days festivals and they took part the cultural presentation and shows school activities at their stalls. This first time in Chakaria Upazila, they students groups demands sexual harassment free society by a festival and gathering.
