An opinion poll conducted by the International Republican Institute (IRI) was published in the media yesterday, 4 September 2015, (Please see the Amar Desh report:
দুর্নীতি নিয়ে বাংলাদেশীদের উদ্বেগ: দ্রুত নির্বাচনের পক্ষে বেশির ভাগ মানুষ
http://www.amardeshonline.com/pages/details/2015/09/05/300679#.Veq9cdJViko), in which many were sceptical about some findings, in particular:
"সরকারের প্রতি ৬৬ আর প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার প্রতি সমর্থন ৬৭ শতাংশে পৌঁছেছে।"

The International Republican Institute (IRI) is accused of organising Haitian coup, provoking coup in Cuba, supporting the 2009 Honduran coup, helping organise Solidarity in Poland, training activists in Egypt, Tunisia, Middle East, etc. As such, their opinion poll surveys must be questionable, in particular in the atmosphere of fear in Bangladesh, where people may not say what is in their mind.

The International Republican Institute (IRI) is, in the main, run by the US Republican Party and is chaired by Senator John McCain (who lost presidential election to Obama in 2008), while its sister organisation, the National Democratic Institute (NDI) is, in the main, run by the US Democratic Party, and is chaired by Madeleine Albright (who was US Secretary of State in Bill Clinton Administration). Both are non-profit organisations, funded by USAID and related funders, and their missions are to expand freedom and enhance democracy in the developing countries. The US uses these slogans to establish and enhance their influence in the developing countries. The IRI has been working in Bangladesh since 2003, and the NDI since 1987.

The IRI works in 70 countries at present. It trains the 'trainers of democracy' in those countries; for example IRI trained 737 master trainers in 25 districts in six divisions of Bangladesh, in preparation for 1/11 2007 and cancellation of 11 January 2007 election. At the time, they said, "Bangladesh is at a point of political gridlock", indicating military takeover in the offing. About the rigged and predetermined election of 2008 through ballot box stuffing, "The IRI found Bangladesh's December 29, 2008, parliamentary elections a major step forward in demonstrating the country's commitment to strengthening democracy. The process appears to have yielded a result that accurately reflects the will of Bangladeshi voters." But before the election, the BNP was bulldozed and smashed, with thousands in prison and thousands hiding, there weren't many voters in the election-day afternoon, yet the turnout was shown as 80%, with many centres more than 100%!

However, the 2014 election was not approved by the US (at least overtly), so the IRI sounded disapproval, but it said, "59 percent said the country was headed in the wrong direction, compared to only 35 percent who reported they felt the country was headed in the right direction." But in the election only 2 to 5% voted, not 35%, though the govt. brazenly claimed a turnout of 40%!

Thus, the IRI opinion poll may mean, even if an election is held, it would be rigged with a predetermined result of two-thirds seats for the illegal incumbent, or even some other subterfuge.
