Re: [chottala.com] FW: LabAid Cardiac Hospital: The real story behind the fancy Ads!

Dear Pannah

I agree with you that we should not fly to other countries like the thug politicians. We must be united and raise our voice in one to shut the so-called man killing hospital plus punish those involved including the official Dircctoriate of Heath Services who connived with these hospitals to engage Fake Professors(???)and other Law enforcing agencies to hold up the literate criminal killers. There should be explamplary punshiment so as to make the future activist in this line be carefull.

All the successsive government failed to uphold the rights of the people in ensuring the basic need i.e. health, education, employment etc etc. These political goons eaten up the money earmarked for the poor.

We should urge the CTG to seriously enquire the wrong doing of Lab Aid and close it forever else there will be many many deliberate murders( for money) will occur in future as well.

Dear Mr. Nader Chowdhury,

Your statement "But if you can afford just fly to Bangkok, India or
somewhere else." is not acceptable to me; experience with LABAID might
be frustrating, but that does not mean that there is no good hospital
in Bangladesh.

[chottala.com] " Don''t do politics wearing uniforms. You are violating rules and regulations of your jobs…." - Professor Dr Anwar Hossain

A section of security men creates scare, alleges Prof Anwar

" Don''t do politics wearing uniforms. You are violating rules and regulations of your jobs…."  - Professor Dr Anwar Hossain

Professor Dr Anwar Hossain, one of the four Dhaka University teachers released Wednesday after five-month detention, brought a sweeping allegation that a small section of security-men created the reign of ''scare'', reports UNB.
" Bangladesh army is not opponent of the country''s students, teachers and other people. This army was born through the glorious liberation war in 1971. But a small section of army-men is trying to stand us against the whole army as opponents…," Prof. Anwar told his audience at a gathering.
The outspoken DU teacher was addressing the student-teacher solidarity meeting at the foot of Aparajeya Bangla in the morning marking the release of the DU teachers and students.
Five of the released DU students and their parents, and wives and children of the released teachers also joined the solidarity meeting.
Three other released teachers - Prof. Dr Sadrul Amin, Dean of Arts Faculty, Prof. Dr Harun-or-Rashid, Dean of Social Sciences Faculty, and former Jagannath Hall provost Prof. Dr Neem Chandra Bhoumik-National Professor Kabir Chowdhury, Prof. Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Prof. Akhtaruzzaman and Prof. Mohammad Samad, among others, also addressed the meeting. Prof. Dr. Shafiquzzaman was in the chair.
As hundreds of students, teachers and employees applauded his fiery speech, Prof. Anwar Hossain said teachers and students were arrested and kept in jail as the university always acts as the conscience of the Bengali nation.
He claimed the DU teachers did not commit any crime during the August movement, as they stood by the imperiled students as guardians.
" As teachers we cannot tolerate any crime. The students had protested misdeeds of joint forces and we had just stood by them. But we were thrown in jail! The only reason is that evil force is afraid of Dhaka University which is the conscience of the country," said Dr Anwar, also general secretary of the DU Teachers Association.
He observed that bringing the teachers and students out of jail through nonviolent movement, Dhaka University proved that it never bows to any misdeed or oppression.
" There was no violence during the movement. We have been able to prove it again that Dhaka University never tolerates any oppression," Dr Anwar said.
About the role of army in country''s politics, he said, " Don''t do politics wearing uniforms. You are violating rules and regulations of your jobs…."
Prof. Anwar urged the caretaker government to lift the state of emergency and declare specific date of general election. " There is no need for state of emergency now. Lift the emergency and declare specific date for the general election-the people want government of their own representatives."
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Harun-or-Rashid said if standing by the endangered and affected students is a crime, then the DU teachers would go on committing such crime till death.
He further said Dhaka University teachers and students have proved it that "all kinds of misdeed and oppression will be protested and evil forces will be defeated always by the country''s premier institution".

Re: [chottala.com] FW: LabAid Cardiac Hospital: The real story behind the fancy Ads!

Dear all
I also want to share my personal experiance for
KILLING MACHINE LAB AID. in early 2006 my father in
law. due to pain in chest i took him under care of
best so called best killer doctor in LABAID Dr
Sohrabuzzaman. He found block in several places in the
artyery & heart & recommended earliest angioplast. I
asked for an estimation & asked him to give medium
price stents. I got estimation of around 2 lac taka.
next during operation his junior doctor came to sign
from me about the prices of stents. i saw the prices
are almost double than estimation he gave me ealier. i
asked him this was not the estimation & i was not
ready about this. after few minutes killer doctor came
& satrted shouting at me why i was asking him that &
told if "you dont sign take ur patient'. patient was
already half way of operation. he told price of stents
have increased & I saw a person carrying bag like
medical representative ran away from the OT room I
tried to call him but could not. At the end I had to
pay doubvle by taking loan. But sorry to say within
one month my father in law died. at least he was
better before operation. I am sure either he didnot
give any stent & just took 4 3lakh+ money or he cud
not give stent properly. i pray killer Dr
shorabuzzaman should be hanged. after somneday in 2006
his wife was hanged by rope.

Re: [chottala.com] FW: LabAid Cardiac Hospital: The real story behind the fancy Ads!

Dear Mr. Nader Chowdhury,

Your statement "But if you can afford just fly to Bangkok, India or
somewhere else." is not acceptable to me; experience with LABAID might
be frustrating, but that does not mean that there is no good hospital
in Bangladesh.

Re: [chottala.com] DU teachers condemn verdict

Dear Dina
Agreed with you as you sort out the real problem of lethargic University
teachers
we also sufferer as a university student, those are engaged in chaos right
now influenced by
teachers they will suffer in the long run by their continuous unemployment
situation .
Earnestly request to the present interim govt that they will take
initiative to break autonomous
body of university teachers . And change some rules and regulations as
done in PSC.
Thanks
Mostafa

[chottala.com] Policy Innovation: Reform in media sector

Policy Innovation: Reform in media sector
But this never came up to discussion during last one year. The bosses of media do not want it and the information minister also (probably) didn't want it!

In order do justice to a job that needs a lot of brainwork and investigation, the journalists / reporters in the media has to be given enough resources so that they can do meaningful reporting. What they do right now, is press-release journalism or press-conference journalism, mostly.

Off course, there are many who goes beyond this. But their number is few.

People in the media sector has to be provided right amount of resources.

When we say that, we know, most of the people involved would like to say .... wage board implementation, etc etc. Certainly there are things that are positive. But we think there are more effective way to tackle the problem to improve situation. Market based mechanism should be used to improve the situation.

Could you elaborate a bit? - you would ask - we know. Let us do exactly that.

In order to a market to work effectively, there has to be market regulator. This regulator may be an initiative from the government or it can be interally developed mechanism such as BFUJ can make a body to set the rules of the market which the market players adopt voluntarily.

So, what that market regulatory body can do - if there is one?

They should set the standard. Also, they should set a standard of how much money should be spent to produce a quality product of say "one column inch" of print media or "one minute of air time" of eletronic media (TV or Radio). Certainly that will be a range - an upper limit and a lower limit within which every media organization will be encouraged to operate (profit or loss). Once that range is determined, the body should look into the number of media organizations and calculate how much revenue is needed for them to operate in a healthy situation.

Or the body can do a reverese calculation. They can look at the strength of the economy and revenue stream of the industry.

Best process will be to do the both.

Once that is done, our guess is, the recommendation that will come out of that excercise is a major restructuring of the sector.

How do you do that?

The first question will be - how is the legal infrastructure?

We know, there was no law on merger and acquisition (M&A) of two banks - let alone two media organization. Bangladesh Bank made a draft law on merger of Banks, but not sure whether that came into being.

What is the status of the laws of M&A of any two companies? Is there a sound law? If there is none, Dr. Akbar Ali Khan should be working on these, instead of the chapabazi he usually does on other things.

Assuming there is or will be good law on company M&A, the media regulatory body have to sit down and think about whether there is any specific characteristics that would require special treatment of media companies. Our guess is there will be such a need. Most of the developed democracies consider media companies just more than a profit-making company. So, they have to find out what special treatment should be there for the media sector in Bangladesh. They should come up with a draft law based on the generilized law for company M&A.

Hopefully, once these are all done, the media companies would start using market senses to take advantage of that reform law. At the end, the journalists would get a better pay, the owners will make money instead of paying loss and most importantly, Bangaldesh would get a vibrant media sector.

If you thought some of the ideas are worth of your reading time, please forward it to others. If you have an ear to the columinsts in regular traditional media, please forward it to them. If you have an ear to the journalists and news editors of the electronic media, discuss it with them. Hope they would look at the suggestions and give due diligence.

Thanks for your time,
Innovation Line

Aitzaz Ahsan,  struck a blow against Gen. Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan's president, with a court victory for the deposed chief justice.

Two of Pakistan's top lawyers, who led protests against president Pervez Musharraf's attempts to sack the country's chief justice, have won an Asian human rights award, organisers said Wednesday.
Munir Malik, former president of the Pakistan Supreme Court Bar Association, together with his successor, Aitzaz Ahsan, have been awarded the Asian Human Rights Defender Award by the Hong Kong-based Asian Human Rights Commission.
The pair were instrumental in leading the vociferous protests against Musharraf's attempt to sack Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry last March.
'The two lawyers' leadership, courage and unswerving commitment to their profession, their integrity and their country are strongly symbolic of their cause,' the award organisers said in a statement.
'In them we acknowledge and award all of the lawyers, judges and others who have refused to bow down to the immoral pressure of military force, including all of those dismissed from their posts and kept in their houses.
'They stand today as the representatives of civilised society and institutional commonsense in Pakistan, in stark contrast to the barbarism and primitive feudal order represented by Musharraf and his allies.'
Chaudhry's sacking was thwarted after the protests, but he was later removed after refusing to retake an oath of office when Musharraf imposed emergency rule late last year.
Since leading the protests, Malik has been arrested and drugged, causing him to suffer renal failure, AHRC said.
Ahsan has been detained since the emergency rule was imposed in November. Ambassadors from several countries have been refused access to visit him. Emergency rule was lifted in December.

[chottala.com] Bridget Mccain The Wonder Child

Bridget McCain at Home

December 5 , 2007

While Senator John McCain is campaigning as a Republican for President of the United States in the 2008 election, his 16 year old daughter, Bridget McCain, is in Phoenix, Arizona attending a private school. "We are a normal family just like everyone else," Bridge says.

As a sophomore in high school, the Arizona Senator's daughter spends a lot of time playing sports. She likes playing basketball and volleyball, and like most kids, enjoys spending time with her friends. "School is awesome because of my friends," Bridget McCain said. "It's important for kids to be respectful to each other and help one another to make school better for everyone."

When Bridget's father, Senator McCain, ran for president in 2000, Bridget traveled with her family on the campaign trail. "I didn't understand as well what was going on then because I was only in the second grade." She said she missed a lot of school "and didn't get to hang out with my friends." But this campaign has been different for her because she stays at home with her soon to be sister-in-law, Tess, who is studying to be a chef, while her parents and older sister, Meghan, travel together campaigning. Bridget said she enjoys supporting her Dad and also getting to stay in Phoenix going to high school with her friends and attending study hall. She also likes to study history.

Bridget said her parents are her role models and heroes. "My Dad's best achievement is being a dad and also running for president at the same time. He always puts family first!"

Bridget's favorite family tradition is when her family comes together during the holidays to celebrate Christmas at their cabin near Sedona, Arizona. They sing Christmas carols and light hundreds of candles along the hillside by their home which requires a lot of family teamwork! "We are hard working at everything we do and we stick to it," Bridget said.

Bridget said that war is also a big concern to her family. Senator McCain was a pilot in Vietnam, and her brother is in Iraq. "War is an important issue for our country and our nation," she said. "My dad wants to support the troops in Iraq and he hopes they will come home safely."

Bridget believes that the most important qualities for a president is that "he has to be a good leader to know what to do every step of the way."

"My Dad's proven himself to be capable to be the president and if he wins, he will be great at it!"

Re: [chottala.com] goodbye to bangladesh army

Salaam Munim bhai. Thnx for your response. I don't write in this forum as I used to however, I still go through pretty much all the mails on regular basis. Pls don't lose your interest in this forum.  We can still achieve something good once in while through this forum and that's much better than achieving nothing at all.

Dear Joy bhai:
Salaam. I still choose to address you as Joy as that's the name I started communicating with you. I hope we will see more of your postings from now on and also hope and pray that you will find success in your new endeavor.
Joy bhai, I think you may remember… in the beginning of our forum, we used to have lot of discussion regarding the well being of Chattagram and BD as a whole but that mood kind of disappeared and politics of BD and  across the globe took over. I'm not saying that we shouldn't talk about politics in this forum.. of course we should discuss abt politics as it's part of our life but we should do it in a moderate productive way.
As we all know, we have so many disasters going on in BD but sometime I feel like.. not many of us cares. We all keep talking abt politics. When our neighbors are progressing towards science and technology and we are keep talking about politics. I just read a surprising news yesterday.. India helped Israel to launch a spy satellite in space… what surprised me the most is that not the India-Israel strategic military co-operation but India's superiority over Israel when it comes to launching capacity. When India is going far far ahead of us when it's comes to science and technology, when TATA came up with the cheapest automobile in the world, guess what we are doing!! We are wasting our time with "are we Bengoli or Bangladeshi debate, we are wasting our time with "who declare the independence" debate, we are wasting our time to divide the nation with pro-liberation and anti liberation forces debate.
When the current CTG came to the power, I was a big supporter of them and hope that things will be changing in BD. And I was really excited when judiciary was seperated from Govt. I thought, now, justice will be flourishing for everyone. BUT in reality, judiciary is worse than JP/AL/BPN term. And current CTG is slowly failing in every aspect of BD and I don't know where they will end up with.
I hope and pray that ONE day our nation will wake up and forget about the hatred to each other and start working towards a prosperous BD. Our politicians and so called shushil shomaj will spend more time to figure out how to unite our country, how to innovate ideas regarding producing more food ( keep in mind, we have one of the most fertile land in the world), how to deal with our education problem, how to save our rivers, how to solve our flood problems, how to utilize our fresh flood water and store them for dry season, how to handle natural disasters with out foreign support,  how to develop an IT infrastructure, how to give birth of nuclear scientists, how to develop a road infrastructure without wasting our valuable land to name a few.
Joy bhai, pls keep me on the loop if you have any positive idea(s) regarding our people. As I always said before, I will be happy if we can positively change just one life in my entire life time.
May Almighty keep you and your family safe and happy. May Almighty erase the hatred from our soul and filled it with love and forgiveness.
Fi Amnaillah.
Helal
