[chottala.com] Did McCain couple do unfair politics while highlighting their illegal(!) daughte

Did McCain couple do unfair politics while highlighting their illegal(!) daughter?
It is nothing but unfit for a person with records as it is of Senator McCain

First, a clarification about why we are writing this article since we usually write on topics that relates to the future development of Bangladesh. Many of our readers might forward a logic that since Bridget McCain was born in Bangladesh, it is OK to talk about this issue from Bangladeshi context. But we have much stronger logic in support of our decision to write on this - we would not usually think that it's OK to talk about Bridget involving politics.

However, McCains have used her to get political mileage in the latest Republican Conventions. Since her self-proclaimed parents have brought her into muddy waters of politics, we thought its fair to highlight some issues.

First of all, if McCains claim that she is their daughter, then they are either lying about Bridget's country of birth (which they claim to be Bangladesh) or they have broken the law. There is off course a third posibility, which has not been discussed so far in the press. Please allow us to discuss both options in details.

1. McCains, who have no prior connection to Bangladeshi heritage cannot adopt a child from Bangladesh, that is against the adoption law of Bangladesh. It is not something that is unknown to the Americans, rather it should be very well known. Only a person who holds dual citizenship can adopt a child from Bangladesh - for details you can see the relevant link from the US Embassy web-site in Dhaka. So, as far as laws of the land is concerned, McCain couple can not adopt a child from Bangladesh. Any foreigner who claims to have adopted a child from Bangladesh, that would be illegal. Its very plain and simple.

2. It possible that Bridget was actually adopted from India where Mother Teresa's missionary work is well-known. (BTW, do any of you know where is the Mother Teresa's orphanage in Dhaka? Having lived in Dhaka during about the same time when Bridget might have been born, it would be unusual not to know some institution like Mother Teresa's Orphanage in Dhaka! One just wonders whether there is actually such a thing there and where?)

As we mentioned, there is off course  a third possibility. There might be a connection with the then dictator in Dhaka, General Ershad who might have broken the law to allow an exception for the Senator. Only a fair investigation would allow the truth to come out that may or may not exonerate the McCain couple from any wrong-doing as far as the actual procedure of adoption is concerned.

Whatever the reason or story behind it, use of such stories of adoption for poltical gains is repulsive. Actually, Senator McCain has gone mad to "BE" the president - at whatever price. Many of his actions during last 8 years (after he was defeated in 2000 primary) are the best proof of that. US policies around the world could be tied to the death of millions of childs around the world and he never feels an urge to do anything about that. Use of Bridget for political gain is just the last stroke in the series.

On a more logical note, it would be nice if some Bangladeshi journalists could go into Mr. Moriarty's office (current US Embassadar in Dhaka) and find out the actual circumstances which may support or falsify our allegations in this article.

If you thought some of the ideas are worth of your reading time, please forward it to others who might be interested in the article.

Thanks for your time,

Dear Chottala Readers,
Just look at Pakistan. Asif Ali Zardari once known to be  as 10% during the regime of Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.  Later on he was put in jail for 8 years by Pervez Musharraf for his corruption. Where is Asif Ali Zardari now--- prison to President. People of Pakistan after garlanding him elected him as the President of their country.

Who knows after few years we the people of Bangladesh will do the same thing as Pakistan did now.
Please wait and see our people will bring Tareque Zia or Joy either as President or something like that after garlanding them. Because we the people of Bangladesh still could not raise ourselves beyond that level. Our country is still full of corruption from top to bottom. Corrupted people will also bring a corrupted leader just like an ass are always habituated in drinking dirty water.

Now look at India. A little bit of corruption is there also. But during selection or election they are always particular in selecting a patriotic leader in a real democratic sense.

Where is democracy in our country? Do you think our people are selecting our leader in a true sense of democracy. Our leader always used to tell us they have returned the people's democracy to the people
again. What type of democracy they have returned to us? In the name of democracy they have presented us some corrupted elements from our soceity. We are eating now bitter quinines instead of enjoying the fruits of democracy.

[chottala.com] Are private cars the ideal transport?

Are private cars the ideal transport?

Let us return to the private car.  Whatever convenience and comfort it provides comes at various costs.  Cars are the main source of pollutants worldwide.  There is no such thing as a clean car; cars just vary in the amount they pollute.  Despite increasingly stringent emissions control standards over the decades in the US, cars pollute more than they used to—because people are driving farther.

It is difficult for us to appreciate just how much cars pollute.  The air in Dhaka City, after all, improved dramatically after the banning of two-stroke baby taxis, and again with the introduction of unleaded fuel.  However, this is by no means an indication that the air in Dhaka is clean.  Any trip to the countryside is a reminder of the pleasure of breathing clean air.  Even in Dhaka, if we wake up early and take a walk, we can experience a bit of the pleasure of fresh air; as each car passes, we can also understand just how much each car pollutes the air.  As the streets fill with cars, the pollution rises.  On hartal days, despite large numbers of people moving about the city, the air is fresh and the city (violence aside) is quiet.  Cars—and the wide paved roads needed to accommodate them—also emit a great deal of heat, making Dhaka even more insufferable in the many hot months.

Cars also are the main cause of noise pollution.  A full 97% of students in Dhaka in a survey on noise pollution said that their studying is disrupted by car horns; 96% of the general public interviewed mentioned car horns as the main cause of noise pollution in Dhaka.[1]  When rickshaws were on strike in October 2004, there were no rickshaws on the streets, yet the streets were as noisy as ever.

We would argue that since cars only transport roughly 10-20% of travelers, they should only have access to 10-20% of road space, for moving and parking—and should respect the rest of users, as well as the right to some peace and quiet of all the people working and living next to roads.

Presumably one component of civilization is respecting the rights of others.  The attitude of drivers—who represent the wealthiest portion of society—that they alone should have full access to roads—is anti-democratic, anti-civilization, and disturbingly elitist.  A society in which people fail to respect the rights of others, and in which the rich believe they should have special privileges on the roads as well as in every other aspect of life, is a society destined to fall into crime, selfishness, viciousness, and lack of the neighborly friendliness that allows people to live comfortably together.

[chottala.com] We strongly condemn the senior Awami League leaders for attending the iftar party with Jamaat-RAZAKAR leaders hosted by Saudi Ambassador at the residence of KSA ambassador in Dhaka on last Friday

We are strongly condemning the recent action of senior Awami League leaders, Mr. Jillur Rahman, Mr. Amir Hussain Amu, Mr. Sayed Ashraful Islam (along with Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain, among others) for attending an iftar party hosted by Saudi Ambassador Dr Abdullah Bin Naser Al-Busairi with Jamaat-RAZAKAR leaders at the residence of KSA ambassador in Dhaka on last Friday evening.

The picture of Acting Awami League President Zillur Rahman and Jamaat Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami shaking hands surprised me too, though in the picture it was seen that RAZAKAR Nizami was looking like a faithful-grateful servant shaking with his boss!

We also strongly condemn the bad comments of Awami League presidium member Mr. Amir Hossain Amu, who was also present at the iftar party, published in today's (7.09.08) newspaper that he does not agree with the decision for complete boycot of Jamat-Razakar for the sake of "politics of power".

Awami League is a one of the main party which demands the trial of war criminals of 1971 and speaks about fulfilling the dreams of Bangabandhu cannot sit-meet with anti-liberation forces like NaPaki Jamat-RAZAKAR under any circumstances,

We want that no pro liberation force minded party-people-leaders would sit-meet with Jamat -RAZAKAR leaders at any level (except parliament session). We have to boycott Jamat -RAZAKAR politically, socially organisationally and personally and in levels.
