[chottala.com] Introducing

Dear Chittagonians home and abroad,

Assalamu alaikum. Namashker. Adab.

Hope, you are all keeping fine by grace of Almighty.
How can we be fine in the sizzling heat of Jaishta accompanied by severe load-shedding?

Yesterday a prominet Bangla daily the Amader Shomoy published the lead news: ......Bidduter Mohaporikolpona Nia Shonka" focusing uncertainty of any significant development in making up load-shedding before end of this year; even Ministry of Energy is progressing slowly in implementation of ADP.In summer, load-shedding is 1000 to 1200MW.

However, we are yet to expect much from rainy season knocking at the door. "Borisho Dhora majhe shantiro bari" Let the rain cool us in heat and dust.

Are now the Chittagonian politicians, economists, thinkers and intellectuals playing any key role or significant part in broad spectra of administration, economy, politics- in and outside assembly or in cultural field?

Speaking broadly denouncing narrow regional feeling that eminent Chittagonian figures in the field of economy, politics have been being victim of suppression, oppression and harassment by a vested quarter. A particular section in power seems to be intolerant with illustrious figures of Chittagong whose achievements and success have superseded even national boundary.

Let it be elaborated later.

Wishing you all a cool, comfortable life.

Best wishes,

Sonia Jahan

[chottala.com] Indian CAS tol visit BD and take salute during BMA passing out parade

As I indicated earlier the Indian CAS will be taking salute from the new graduates of the BMA course. Does this mean our army has become subservient to the Indian army or is this merely a symbolic gesture intended to humiliate us?

[chottala.com] Re: Reproduced with corrigendum

Dear Moderator & dear all,
One of the close associates of Chowdhury family phoned me today morning
and suggested some change of period of time in my following posting.
I will be obliged if it is reproduced in corrected form shown in bold font.

In response to addition of Mr. Abid Bahar and Mr. Ataul Karim,
I want to add something. You nicely corrected the reminiscence of Mr. Abid Bahar. He deserves thanks for presenting exemplary past before posterity. However, Professor Abdur Noor in his article published in Amardesh (link given below) mentioned cordial relation of Fazlul Quader Chowdhury and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman apart from their political affiliation in 1960s and '70s, even though their relation was built up during late 1930s and '40s at the then Calcutta when Fazlul Quader  was studying undergraduate class at Presidency College and was Vice- President of Carmichael Hostel Students' Union and after graduating in the year 1939, became  General Secretary of All India Muslim Students' Federation and Sheikh Mujib was a rising student leader, studying I.A. at Calcutta Islamia College living at Baker Hostel and both  were in the same platform for struggle against the British regime and for emancipation of the downtrodden Muslims of the Sub-continent.

The momentous event of meeting of two leader of two axis at the Namaje Jainaja of veteran leader of Chittagong M.A. Aziz reminds some legendary tale of the contemporary political scenario of Chittagong in the the then British- Pak period.

As gathered from the witnesses of that age, M.A. Aziz and Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury were two best followers, comrades and associates of Fazlul Quader Chowdhury when he started his pre and post independence political era (1942-47)  in Chittagong being General Secretary of Chittagong District Muslim League and later being the Chairman of Chittagong District Board (1949-51). Nothing could have been done or happened in the political arena of Fazlul Quader without his two valiant comrades- right and left hands- M.A. Aziz and Zahur Ahmed until in late '50s they had joined Awami League under leadership of Hossen Shahid Suhrawardy. In the early 1940s, M.A. Aziz was under vehement physical attack by opposition and nearing death at Halishahar, Chittagong while he was leading a precession in support of Fazlul Quader.Hearing the news, Fazlul Quader rushed to the spot and recovered his comrade from the jaws of death.

As told by contemporaries and surviving family member, though Fazlul Quader was heading Convention Muslim League, he had liaison with Sheikh Mujib even after massive victory of Awami League in general election of 1970. When Yahya and Bhutto were dillydallying to hand over power to majority party of the then East Pakistan, Fazlul Quader met Bangabandhu on or around 15 March 1971 at 32, Dhanmandi to give some focuses in dealing with Bhutto-Yahya.On 16 March Fazlul Quader issued a statement urging hand over of power to majority party leader Bangabandhu. It was published on the following day in national dailies. This untold fact could be proven by searching issues of Morning News and Pakistan Observer in the Archives.

However, question may arise, why I am presenting those untold issues now? At least the present posterity will enjoy those legends of history. Sometimes, facts are more romantic than fiction!

Thank you all.
Hasan

Dear Abid Bahar
Bravo!
The only correction i would like to make is you saw him in Mr. M.A. Aziz Janaza where Late Fazlul Quader Chowdhury and Shiekh Mujibur Rahman
met for the last time and the year was 1970 just after the national election. It shows how magnanimous politicians of those days were. Those days politician
use to differ politically but their personal relationship was always above everything. I think the present politicians should learn something from these leaders.
With best wishes
Ataul Karim

Fazlul Quader Chy, the lion of Chittagong that I saw walking away to his parked car
Abid Bahar

It was most probably in 1972 or 1973,  I saw Fazlul Quader Chowdhury at the railway parade ground. He came to attend the Janaza of Awami League's most probably Hannan or Jahur Ahamed. I saw FQC a tall man truly looked like a lion. He appeared to be a man of dignity and surely showed humility to come to attend the janaza. I saw the lion of Chittagong walking away to his parked car.

Yes, if the university was established in Comilla, neglecting the cosmopolitan port city of Chittagong, he would be a legend of Comilla/ Bangladesh. The anti FKC hatred truly began by some narrow -minded anti chittagonian people from the movement of the University's inception. Again it was due to him that many people of this great city irrespective of their origins are now highly placed at home and abroad.

I don't know for sure how FKC was involved in the liberation war, nothing seems true of what the pathological lier Hasina and her politicized court says; but I have some very good Hindu friends from Rangunia, who says that he was a good man and actually helped them. Hearing this from local Hindu people in a family gathering actually shocked me. I don't know what is true.

It is true during the liberation war Hindus suffered the most. Around 1974 I had visited a very close Hindu friend's home in Rangunia, which my friend told me was burnt down by the local razakars. When explainning it, he seemed tormented by the event. No doubt like in every corner of Bangladesh, Hindus suffered the most, but I hope the present politicized Hasina's Kangaroo court  inspired by the Indian Bengali dadas like Pronobdas is not helping behind the scene trying the war crimes and torturing the accused and in the process is trying to impose the puppet AL government's anti Islamic but pro-Indian agenda.

Not as a matter of tit for tat but I think that when BNP returns to power, Khalida should rightfully put Hasina in trial on collaboration charges to find out the whereabouts of Hasina and the Sheikh family during the war time, (at the time in Dhaka) and how and why her family was financed and fed by the Pakistani army and also find out the mystery behind Mujib surrendering to the Pakistan army. How he could save his family but causing a genocide and now Mujib is the "father of the nation," and Zia becomes a "razakar". Surely, Hasina the worst house wife turned an administrator should be tried for her many crimes including her illegal connectivity and seeling the country to India through Banglar Mirjafors like Pronob Mukherjees.

Dear Hasan Mahmud
I would like to thank you for the paper clippings.
In Farzeen's article it show how brave her grand father was when he replied to the Indian Army. It reminds me when i read about Raja Poru got
defeated and brought before Alexander the Great and was asked by Alexander how he should be treated? Raja Poru bravely replied "Like a King".
By hearing this brave reply Alexander gave back Raja Poru's kingdom.

As Chittagonian we should be all proud of Farzeen's grand father Late A.K.M. Fazlul Quader Chowdhury.

He was a great patriot and when he died of mysterious reasons in Dhaka Central Jail in the year 1973 their were few hundred thousand people attended his Janaza.
The people of Chittagong has really showed their last respect to this great son of the soil.  We should not forget his contribution for Chittagong. Such as
Chittagong University (which was suppose to be in Comilla), Chiitagong Marine Academy (which was suppose to be in Karachi), and Chittagong Engineering
College.
I would like to say that he was the last Lion of Chittagong.

I think he believed what Tipu Sultan said 'I would like to live like a Lion for two days instead of a rat for two hundred days'.

Thank you again for the paper clippings.
