Re: [SPAM] RE: [chottala.com] A very important posting we should read again and again Unveiled

Dear Mr. Mohammad Farid Hossain,

Thanks for sharing the same views. But why it should make somebody jealous ! There are many people who want good for the country. If we want to positively strengthen those people's hands we should join them. Supporting through a forum or staging a drama in support of the good people have it's limitation, don't you think ?

[chottala.com] Israeli Officials: Musharraf Met Israel's defense minister Barak

Israeli Officials: Musharraf Met Barak

JERUSALEM (AP) — Pakistan's president held a rare and secret meeting with Israel's defense minister in a Paris hotel last week, and the Iranian nuclear program figured high on the agenda, Israeli defense officials said Monday.

The two states have no diplomatic ties, and their officials rarely meet. But Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf and Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak saw each other by chance at the Hotel Raphael in Paris on Jan. 22, where they both were staying, the officials said. They then held a scheduled 20-minute meeting the following day, the officials said.

The defense officials spoke on condition of anonymity because Israel's Defense Ministry has not officially confirmed the meeting took place.

Barak and Musharraf discussed the possibility that Iran would develop nuclear weapons, the Israeli officials said. Iran and Israel are bitter enemies, and Israel — along with the U.S. and much of the international community — is concerned that Iran's nuclear program is designed to produce weapons. Iran claims it intends to produce energy.

Nuclear-armed Pakistan, which has close political and economic ties with Iran, has repeatedly said Iran has a right to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes and that the issue of Iran's nuclear plans must be resolved by diplomatic means.

At the meeting, Barak also expressed concern that instability in Pakistan could put the country's nuclear arsenal in the hands of Muslim extremists, but Musharraf assured Barak that Pakistan's nuclear weapons were safe, the officials said.

In Jerusalem, Barak spokesman Ronen Moshe would not comment.

In Islamabad, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammed Sadiq said Musharraf had a "chance" meeting with Barak in Paris.

"The president was leaving and the defense minister of Israel entered the hotel lobby and it was a chance meeting," Sadiq told The Associated Press. "I am not aware of any second meeting."

Pakistan is the only Muslim nuclear power. Israel will not confirm or deny that it is a nuclear power, but is widely reported to have the world's sixth-largest stockpile of nuclear weapons.

Israel and Pakistan are key allies of the U.S., and there have been indications of warming ties between them. In 2005, Israel's then-foreign minister, Silvan Shalom, met his Pakistani counterpart, Khursheed Kasuri, in Turkey, sparking protests from Islamic hard-liners in Pakistan.

In September 2006, Musharraf said Pakistan's government would have to recognize Israel after an independent Palestinian state was established — but not before.

"We cannot do something that sidelines us from the Muslim world," Musharraf said at the time.

Associated Press Writer Sadaqat Jan reported from Islamabad, Pakistan.

[chottala.com] Irin Khan's criticism is working !!!

Irin Khan's criticism is working !!!

Now Bangladesh Home ministry cautions lawmen
against custodial death

Staff Correspondent

The home affairs ministry on Tuesday cautioned law enforcement agencies against death in custody.
Senior officials of law enforcement agencies such as the police and the Rapid Action Battalion were instructed to ensure that such incidents do not take place further, an official source said.
The directive was given at a meeting chaired by the home affairs adviser, MA Matin. The home secretary, inspector general of police, Rapid Action Battalion director general and senior officials of the agencies concerned attended the meeting.
This was the first meeting of the adviser with the heads and senior officials of the law enforcement agencies after assuming the office of the home affairs ministry on January 16.
Matin, a retired army official who also heads the national coordination committee against corruption and serious crimes, issued 30-point instructions for the lawmen to go by in keeping order to hold free and fair national elections by the end of 2008.
He directed the police to send to the home ministry as soon as possible the cases that could warrant speedy trial.
The adviser asked police officials to build better relations with people. He stressed the need for positive behavioural changes in policemen.
One hundred and eighty-four were reportedly killed extra-judicially by the law enforcement agencies in 2007, according to a report released by human rights coalition Odhikar. The report said 130 had been killed in the 'crossfire.'
Of them, 94 were killed by the Rapid Action Battalion, 64 by the police, 3 jointly by the battalion and the police, 7 each by the 'joint forces' and the army, 3 by the navy, 1 each by the jail police, coast guards, forest guards, Bangladesh Rifles and 2 by the officers of the Department of Narcotics Control. The number of extra-judicial killings in 2007 was lower than what it was in the preceding year.

The meeting asked the police and intelligence agencies to closely monitor labour unrest in readymade garments factories to keep the situation under control. It also asked the police to set up one-stop service centres at strategic points in cities to check harassment of girls and women.
Matin asked the law enforcers to conduct proper investigation into the cases related to acid throwing as the meeting observed the accused in most cases are released because of weak inquiry and lack of evidence.
He also directed the traffic wing of the police to ensure that the vehicles having fake licences or without fitness clearances do not run on the city roads.

[chottala.com] Bangladesh is no more in the most corrupt country's list

Dear Shamim, I agree with you in almost all points.
However, this government should get credit for some
major works in establishing a credible EC, DUDC,
making SC an independent body, and declaring jehad
against corruption. Our politicians must take
responsibilities of their own mistakes. They must be
clean and accountable to our people. They must provide
wealth information before taking any govt
responsibility. Similarly, our government servants
also must submit their wealth statement before working
for the government. It is still true that AL is still
the most democratic party in Bangladesh but it is not
enough. This party must prepare itself to run the 21st
century Bangladesh. If it can correct itself, it will
survive, otherwise, it must accept its place in the history.
