accused NaPaki Jamaat of double standard play, BAIMANI, MUNAFIQI.

BNP would have to re think acceptance of NaPaki Jamaat in any future political alliances & programmes. The gap between Khulna BNP & Napaki Jamaat is gradually widening

Victory of Talukdar Abdul Khaleque in the mayoral race of Khulna City Corporation has infused a new life into Khulna Awami League.

On the other hand, frustration among leaders and workers of Khulna BNP is prevailing for losing the mayoral post after holding it for long 17 years since Khulna Pourasava was upgraded into Khulna city Corporation.

In the meantime,

the gap between Khulna BNP and NaPaki - Jamaat is gradually widening.

Because, majority of

BNP leaders and workers are convinced that NaPaki Jamaat has done BAIMANI, MUNAFIQI & played double standard game in polls battle,

refraining from casting their votes for Moniruzzaman Moni. Because, NaPaki Jamaat's two councillor candidates Ashraf Hossain and Mausur Ali won from wards 4 and 18 respectively where BNP Mayoral candidate Moni was defeated.

Khulna City Ameer of NaPaki Jamaat Mian Golam Parwar while dismissing allegation of double standard role in mayoral election said that Moni had polled his party's votes.

But local leaders of BNP while rejecting NaPaki Jamaat leader's claim said that they would have to re think acceptance of NaPaki Jamaat in any future political alliance & programmes.

[chottala.com] Arakanese Community Stages Protest in Dhaka against 2010 Election

Arakanese Community Stages Protest in Dhaka against 2010 Election
8/8/2008

Dhaka: During a protest staged in Dhaka today, the Arakanese community in Bangladesh called for the Burmese military junta to discontinue the national election they are planning to hold in 2010.

The protest was staged in front of Dhaka's high court against the Burmese military government on the 20-year anniversary of the 8-8-88 nationwide uprising in Burma.

Ko Kyaw Myint, one of the protest organizers said, "The election in 2010 is not useful for the people and will not fulfill our hope of democracy in Burma. It is only for the Burmese army to continue their rule in Burma by the military system. So we oppose the election and demand a stop to all preparations for the 2010 election."

Ko Kyaw Myint is a joint secretary of the All Arakan Students and Youth Congress, which led today's protest in Dhaka.

The protest began when Burmese democracy activists gathered in front of the Bangladesh high court and shouted many anti-military government slogans. There were over 50 Arakanese exiles that participated in the demonstration.

"We also demanded they release immediately all political prisoners including democracy icon Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and U Tin Oo, because their detention is unjust and unfair, and is furthermore against the current laws of Burma," said Ko Kyaw Myint.

During the protest, demonstrators loudly shouted the following demands: "Stop 2010 SPDC election," "Start useful tripartite dialogue with the SPDC, democratic forces, and ethnic nationalities," "Release all political prisoners."

The Arakanese community in Bangladesh typically holds such demonstrations in the capital on the occasion of such historic days for Burma, in order to attract the attention of Bangladeshis and the international community to the plight of the Burmese.

Many Bangladesh journalists came to the protests to report on the story for their respective media outlets. The demonstration ended peacefully after two hours.#

I do not know who will bell the cat. But this cat must be belled. Otherwise, it will bring extinction.

My gut says that it has to start from all the villages and mohollas. People of each village and each moholla may sit independently together for each village and each moholla, irrespective of any orientation, religious, political, color, creed, or anything else; something like the "Shalish Dorbar" and keep talking among them who would be the most honest person to represent them in their unit, and to try to select someone this way, not with ballot or in political process, but by face to face discussions. This would be a participatory active democracy. These units may also set up some committees, as the local village or moholla committee. The committee may also stair the activities in this respect.

The existing government should facilitate it and promulgate rules that in no gathering any violence or forcing by a group or individual shall be tolerated. That would be  just in a basic human form. I believe it will work.

Once this basic structure is set up in the grass root, these selected people then can arrange further gatherings among them to select their leaders, until reaching to the topmost level. When all these honest leaders will be in place, they would be able to communicate actively about the policies what would benefit to them.

When non-military, non-party, non-political honest people will come together , then it will be a political party.

Next question , who will bell the cat? Who is the leader to bring non-military, non-party, non-political honest people  together ?

Everybody is just talking about monetary corruptions. No one is talking about political corruptions. By my opinion, political corruption is much more serious than monetary corruptions. The current drive against monetary corruption by CTG & Military is wonderful. However, "Je Lonkai Jai, Shi Rabon Hoi". Already a lot of severe corruption stories have surfaced against a number of current CTG and Military elites. So, what we are gaining? Moreover, capturing civilian governmental power by the Military in any country is the highest form of political corruption. Alas! no one is bringing that up in the discussions in forums in other avenues.

Politicians were almost all monetarily and politically corrupted. CTG was politically right. For long time, CTG was monetarily right too. Military was politically corrupted from the beginning, and now monetarily corrupted also. So, what is the solution for Bangladesh?

By my opinion, solutions do not lie on People, Persons, Military, or Politicians.

We have to somehow transfer the governance of the country from the political Persons or leaders or military to "Workable Systems". We must have to craft stable systems for running politics, commerce, economy, administration, and all kinds of civil societies, and no-profit activisms.

I believe only then the system will control everybody, and no one will be able to take extra advantages.

I also believe that non-military, non-party, non-political honest people can come together to put these systems together. Public can find out these honest people from their own areas.

Brother, I am sure that you have heard enough about Mahathir's corruption and influence peddling. Anwar is the prime example of mahathir's justice and police system. Please don't present another dakat as an example. I will not spare anyone, even my father, who looted peoples' money. Please do not defend even your own family when it comes to corruption. Thanks a lot.

Moreover, the second case on the same bribary by CID has not included Tareq.

Then, Who should be regards as symbol of corruption in Bangladesh? Those who have done corruption over the table or under the table?

A question to conscious citizen of Bangladesh.

[chottala.com] Two building structures in the horizon of Dhaka that still stand as a sign of di

Two building structures in the horizon of Dhaka that still stand as a sign of disrespect to rule of law
BGMEA building and Rangs building - both should make their way to the public interest. If you left out these important signs of corruption and at the same time go out of your way to setup TAC, people will start questioning your motive. By this time, government should have learned that managing the public perception is very important.

Its appalling to see that both of these above mentioned structures still stands defying public interest.

Both should go down or make their way for the greater good of the public.

The first one, the BGMEA building seems like survived the Hatirjheel-Begunbari project, even though it has been reported how BGMEA people has shown disrespect to the law of the country with corrupt practices of the Rajuk people. Even though the alleged malpractice was done by one of the main business association of the country, they should not be given a free pass. This highly publicized corruption should give its way to the greater public interest. Government may give them some other land to build a new BGMEA building.

What do we want to do with this building? Tear down this one?

If that is creating major problem with the road construction, then yes, tear it down.

If road construction is not hampered by the presence of this building, then we have a better idea for this one.

Let us take this building and create a high-rise public place out of this building. It can be turned into a mix of different things to create an urban getaway for the citizens - a food court, an indoor sports zone for kids, a video games corner, a public parking, a spot for Dhaka city viewing through installed binoculars. Turn this into a tourist cum civic spot. Several of the floor can also be turned into the first Industrial Museum of Bangladesh. All these facilities, among others, will be run for-profit basis, or may be the space can be leased out to private entrepreneurs for doing the above-mentioned things in return of a yearly rent. The income can be given to the association of garment workers welfare fund or can be used to run a chain of low cost schools for the children of garment workers. That would be a much better way to handle the public interest. We hope that BGMEA leadership will heed to this.

For the second one, the Rangs building - the fate is already decided. It is in the process of going down, to make way to create an important intersection that is expected to help reduce the problem of traffic jam. However, the speed at which the work is progressing does not look good. RAJUK's highup people should have been held responsible for this mess at the very beginning. But the government hasn't touched those culprits yet. And it seems that something is cooking with the building, again. They are using a time-pass strategy hoping to find a favourable wind again - it seems.

If the government doesn't know how to handle the job, here is some tip. All the Rajuk highups (chairman /engineer / management) should be brought out of their office and tied in poles in front of Bijoy Shoroni island until they complete the taking down of the building. Once that is done, you will see how they find a quicker way to dismantle this sign of tyrranny which started with Ershad chora and grew up and/or lived throughout the period of Khaleda and Hasina. This one should go down now without any further delay.

If you thought some of the ideas are worth of your reading time, please forward it to others. If you have an ear to the columnists in regular traditional media, please forward it to them. If you have an ear to the journalists and news editors of the electronic media, discuss it with them. Hope they would look at the suggestions and give due diligence.

[chottala.com] Jess Ragaza: Global Warming Millions March to Congress Schedule and Modus Operandi, Enhanced Reissue

For your educational, shopping and entertainment pleasure, this web site is currently being reconstructed; also reissuing due to vital additions

(Background: JR' Panis Angelicus - Please click if it does not start automatically)

Click here to send e-mail immediately to your family, relatives, friends and associates, but most especially to our senators and congressmen

Global Warming Millions March to Congress

Schedule and Modus Operandi

Our premise:

1. Climate Crisis, which has been generally accepted by scientists the world over to result in massive extinctions of life on earth, has not been dealt with seriously by the U.S. Congress.

2. Therefore, we decide to have a groundswell of people from these United States, to march to Washington D.C. on Thursday, September 11, 2008.

3. We are part of a huge NEURAL SYSTEM.  Hence each of us, whether individuals or groups, is totally independent from the rest. As such the functions and objective of the system will continue whether or not portions of the system are present.

4. This is an absolutely peaceful march with various entertainers* roving around from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument to Congress.

4. We do not negotiate. We, the people, come from a position of strength. We have the power to remove them. We will have all of our banners and other means to communicate publicly the words "Slow Down Global Warming Now!" This is for FOCUS. Many other rallies fail because many groups have their own agenda. To repeat - Let us stay focused and just say "Slow Down Global Warming Now!" Leave the negotiating to Congress among them during their normal deliberation.

5. We will have this encore massive serene assembly of people on Thursday, September 11, 2008. The previous one on September 11, 2004 has been extremely peaceful and quite enjoyable although a little bit warm and has resulted in the changeover of Congress to Democratic control.

6. We will pass this message as widely and as expeditiously as possible by any means.

Our rationale:

  1. Letters to our Congressional representatives did not work.

  1. The meetups and supposedly lobbying did not work.

  1. The many online groups did not work.

  1. DNC, RNC and MoveOn did not seem to care much about it, or probably confused as to what to do!

  1. Million marches have worked successfully before. For instance click Reflections: 2008 and 2004 Millions March to Congress

  1. This kind of phenomenon starts to pick up rather slowly then increases practically exponentially (http://mathworld.wolfram.com/ ExponentiallyIncreasingFunctio n.html).

  1. Our constitution's first amendment (http://www.law.cornell.edu/ constitution/constitution. billofrights.html#amendmenti) guarantees us this right of free speech, especially in peaceful public assemblies.

  1. With electronic networking, one can reach millions in a matter of days.

  1. The media and the press (CNN, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, Washington Post, New York Times, Los Angeles Times among others) have been notified.

  1. Since practically all of those who would be fervent enough to attend are legitimate voters and because they consist of a huge sample size - statistically an exceedingly good sample of our voting population, our Congress people better listen and do something quick, else they will be out of the offices we trusted them for!

Our procedure:
1. Conceal all of your protest paraphernalia (shirts/dress, banners, etc.) until the proper time. Use GREEN because "It is associated with Growth and Life" Bring your GREEN umbrellas, raincoats, ponchos, etc. in case it rains.

2. Advise all formally organized groups to cooperate to make this a huge success. Else, they may as well not participate. The least we need right now are formally organized groups that will only attract the Bushie's SS.

3.   We may be on national television as well since many of the larger ones have been notified. This is even better because our message and peaceful assembly will be instantaneously transmitted not only here in the U.S., but most likely throughout the world. So again exercise discipline and restraint.

4.   Our civil disobedience will be peaceful and enjoyable, a simple stroll in the park with many families and their children. So advise everybody to be calm. We do not want the Bush' Gestapo to be on our backs.

5. At exactly 1:30 P.M. let us all change to our GREEN colored clothing and/or put out our banners and other forms of protests.

Note: To enable us to have this massive assembly without a permit we should not show any sign of formal organization. We are all simply enjoying the park and the roving entertainers.

The word is FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS

only one objective:

"Save Mother Earth: Approve strong legislations to slow down the climate crisis"

Here are some radically strong ideas we can bring to congress to pass:

1. Form an International Consortium to take over the European ITER program (a)  with the intent of accelerating the development of nuclear reactor for power plants; with the first power plant targeted within nine years, i.e. 2016 at the latest not 2035 as per the current program's target (remember Dr. Hanson's warning in many of my current messages – we only have a decade!)

2. Invest our social security in renewable, alternative energy industry. This sector consists of companies that are now engaged in the research, development and actual implementation of renewable, sustainable alternative energy (e.g., biomass, solar, wind, geothermal, etc.). My well documented exceptional success in my investment undertaking proves that this is a very safe haven for retirement funds( b).
 (b) check for instance Special Alert February 6, 2008 Our no secret portfolio that is again up today simply ignores the market direction!  http://livinggracefully.com/ Financial_Newsletter/special_ alert_february_6_2008.htm

3. Mandate automakers to produce cars, vans and trucks with much higher mileage requirement for all cars in the order of at least 100 miles/gallon. This is feasible because some hybrid experimental technology has test cars that already exceed (c) this requirement.

4. Require construction of new buildings( d) to get certification for heat and air-conditioning efficiency as well as use of renewable, alternative energy such as solar, wind, etc.

[chottala.com] Odhikar report challenges 'crossfire' killings

Odhikar report challenges 'crossfire' killings
Fri, Aug 8th, 2008 9:55 pm BdST

Dhaka, August 8 (bdnews24.com) — The recent deaths of militant outfit leader Abdur Rashid Malitha, also known as Dada Tapan, his companion Nasima Aktar Rikta and JCD leader Moshiul Alam Sentu did not occur during any 'shootouts' or 'exchanges of gunfire', as RAB and police have claimed, says rights body Odhikar.

In a probe report, published Thursday and quoting 'eye-witnesses' and relatives, the human rights watchdog concluded members of the Rapid Action Battalion killed them purposely.

Sentu's as.

The mother of Sentu, president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Barisal city unit, was quoted as saying saying that an army officer had tipped her off that her son was in the line of fire, whereupon she had bribed the officer Tk 3 lakh to save her son.

bdnews24.com attempted to contact the army officer named by Sentu's mother, but to no avail.

However, Rab additional director general Col Gulzar Ahmed told bdnews24.cm: "We have already issued official clarifications on these three deaths. There is nothing else to say about the matter."

Tapan's brother speaks before his own death

Leader of the outlawed 'Janajuddho', 48 year-old Dada Tapan, and his companion Rikta, were killed on June 18 in Baradi village, Kushtia.

Shortly after the incident, RAB gave a statement claiming that the two died in a 'shootout' between RAB personnel and members of the outlawed group.

RAB gave a similar statement after the death of Sentu.

Tapan's brother Golam Hossain Akash had rejected RAB's statement to Odhikar, shortly before he died in similar circumstances.

"RAB personnel raided Tapan's house at dawn and shot him dead at close range," Odhikar quoted Akash as saying.

"They shot Rikta in the head and feet who was also in the house, leaving her dead at the scene.

Akash—who himself died some days later in an alleged 'exchange of fire'—alleged to Odhikar, during his detention before his own death, that RAB personnel picked him up on June 18 and tortured him brutally.

"Rab personnel knocked my door around 2.00am. As I opened the door, they kicked me hard and I fell on the ground. They hit me in the ribs with the gun barrel and finally their booted feet trampled and broke my left leg," Akash told Odhikar through the medium of a court inspector, the report said.

Akash admitted that Tapan would often leave arms, banned political pamphlets and other illegal goods in his care.

Azmeri Ferdousi Akhi, wife of Akash, told Odhikaar that Akash had handed over a pistol, 1,500 bullets, around 5,000 monthly bulletins of Janajuddho and a computer to RAB after facing torture.

Akhi said her husband had given her the news that RAB personnel shot Tapan and Rikta.

Aleya Begum, mother of Rikta, said her daughter was involved in the business of readymade garments and sarees. She had been living with two more girls in Kushtia.

There was no case against her with any police station, Rikta's mother said, adding her daughter's body bore bullet wounds to the head and feet.

Ansar Ali, a village policeman, said Rikta's dead body also bore evidence of struggles with her persecutors.

Tapan had six bullet injuries in the chest and left arm, Ali said.

Kushtia Sadar police chief Babul Uddin Sardar told Odhikar on Rikta's death: "Well, at times it happens like that…ten innocent people might get killed while we try to nab one notorious terrorist."

Odhikar quoted captain Mahmud of Rab-12 as saying, "Rab had to get to Tapan at any cost. We had no way out but to kill 10 innocent men in the process."

JCD leader Sentu's story

Sentu's mother told Odhikar that Major Mamun of RAB-8 in Barisal had informed her, through an intermediary named 'Sultan', that Sentu would be killed in a 'shootout'.

She then paid Mamun Tk 3 lakh through the same intermediary, around June 20, but could not save her son.

Syed Manzurul Islam, who studies political science at Dhaka University, said he was with Sentu when the JCD leader was arrested on July 15.

Manzurul said RAB members shot Sentu in the leg as soon as he got down from a rickshaw near Nilkhet, before his arrest.

Morzina Begum, a resident of Bilwobari area of Kashipur in Barisal, where Sentu was allegedly killed, told Odhikar that she had witnessed the killing of Sentu on July 16.

Morzina said she had seen up to 15 RAB members and three vehicles standing near her home in the early morning.

She heard up to three shots and saw five RAB members taking something out of a car, carrying it to a paddy field, firing further some gunshots and returning from the field, Odhikar said in its report.
Morzina went to the field with a pitcher pretending to fetch water and saw a dead body.

RAB personnel asked her if she knew the dead man. As she replied no, they told her that it was Sentu.

"When I first saw the body, there were no weapons lying beside Sentu's body. But later, the RAB men placed a number of arms beside the body," Morzina was quoted as saying by Odhikar.

Odhikar quoted other villagers, including retired army officer 'Mahtab', who had claimed to have witnessed the incident.

Mahtab said: "It was apparent that all the bullets were fired at very close range. His neck bore signs of brutal mauling and the left arm looked fractured."

Sub-inspector Swapon, of Barisal Kotwali Police Station, in an initial inspection report on Sentu's corpse said: "Two bullets pierced Sentu's chest and rifled out through his back and another bullet entered his thigh muscles and remained there."
