Proud new member, Bangladeshi descent, Rushanara Ali, won the East London constituency of Bethnal Green & Bow

Shabana Mahmood

General election 2010: Shabana Mahmood wins in Birmingham Ladywood.

Shabana Mahmood of Labour, an Oxford-educated barrister, was declared winner in the Birmingham Ladywood constituency, after bagging 19,950 votes. Her nearest rival — Ayoub Khan, a Liberal Democrat — polled 9,845 ballots. The seat was previously held by former international development secretary Clare Short.

Yasmin Qureshi, a 47-year-old barrister, held on to a Labour seat of Bolton, polling 18,782 votes against her Conservative rival's tally of 15,827. She was contes- ting in place of Dr Brian Iddon, who has retired from politics.

The House of Commons, the mother of modern parliaments, for the first time got a Gujarati woman — Priti Patel (Conservative) — as a member on Friday.

Labour candidate Valerie Vaz — sister of Indian—origin Labour MP Keith Vaz — was
elected from Walsall South.  Mr. Vaz himself retained his seat in Leicester East
though his vote share got reduced by five per cent from the last elections.
It is the first time a brother—sister duo is being elected to the House of Commons.

Helen Grant is the first black woman to represent the Conservatives at Westminster

On one level the result is a historic victory for the ethnic diversity of British politics. The number of minority MPs has nearly doubled, from 14 to 27, exceeding expectations and is Westminster's greatest ever real and percentage increase.

London, May 7 (PTI)
A new record has been set with the election of several woman candidates with origins in the Indian sub-continent, including the first Muslim woman MP Shabana Mahmood, who won on a Labour ticket.

Among the woman winners were Indian-origin Priti Patel (Conservative) and Valerie Vaz (Labour). The latter's brother, Keith Vaz, was once again elected from the Leicester East constituency.

Results indicate that the number of MPs from ethnic minority background will break the previous record of 15 in the 2005 election.

Besides Shabana Mahmood who won from Birmingham Ladywood, Yasmin Qureshi, Labour candidate from Bolton South East, also won with majorities of more than 8,000.

Rushanara Ali (Labour) romped home victorious from the Bethnal Green and Bow constituency with a majority of over 11,000 votes.

[chottala.com] Vaccination and Violent Crime

Vaccination and Violent Crime
© Harris L. Coulter, Ph.D.

In trying to understand the reasons for the increase in violent crime, it is useful to note that this increase has been paralleled by an equivalent growth in other varieties of pathology -- both medical and social.

Let me show you some figures:

the incidence of epilepsy and other seizures disorders has risen from 2.7/l000 persons in the population in 1940 to 10/l000 today -- a 300% increase.

  • the incidence of asthma has risen from less than 1% of the population in 1840 to 5% today -- a 500% increase;
  • the number of cases of autism has risen from a total of 11 cases in 1943 to about 120,000 today;
  • the number of cases of diabetes has risen from 600,000 in the mid-1940s to 13 million today; since the population of the country has about doubled, the increase in diabetes is about 10 times.
  • the average value of SAT scores started to decline in 1963 and is still declining today.
  • the number of children is special education classes -- representing the incidence of dyslexia/hyperactivity/ attention-deficit syndrome -- has risen from zero in the 1950s to about 1 million today. About 10 million US children are thought to be dyslexic.

Other types of pathology in the United States show a similar pattern of rapid growth since the 1950s or 1960s.:

  • obesity
  • suicide (especially among children and adolescents)
  • sexual disorders (homosexualism, bisexuality, sexual crimes)
  • eating disorders (bulimia, anorexia)
  • sleep disorders
  • allergies and auto-immune diseases
  • mental retardation
  • alcoholism and drug use

America is a rather sick society. This list of disorders represents a large part of the illness with which physicians and patients must cope today. They have largely replaced the infectious diseases of an earlier generataion.

The question to be answered now is whether these conditions are discrete -- i.e., unrelated to one another, or, on the contrary, interrelated.

One body of evidence demonstrating them to be interrelated is provided by criminology. Any criminologist will know that hard-core criminals -- those who keep committing crimes and keep returning to prison (recidivists) suffer from most of the conditions enumerated above. They have very high incidences (much higher than the population at large) of: seizure disorders, dyslexia and hyperactivity, low IQ and mental retardation, autistic features, allergies, tendencies to alcoholism and drug abuse, etc.

Another body of evidence demonstrating them to be interrelated is provided by research connecting these variables together. One can find research associating virtually all of these variables with one another: autism with overweight, homosexuality with allergies, etc. etc.

We are justified in viewing these traits as part of a syndrome, one which is more pronounced in the prison population and less pronounced in the population at large but a syndrome nonetheless.

What could be the cause of this syndrome? Research indicates that all of these conditions are recognizable as the long-term effects of encephalitis. This has been brought out in Coulter and Fisher's DPT: A Shot in the Dark and, more especially, in Coulter's Vaccination, Social Violence, and Criminality.

What could be the cause of so much encephalitis in the US population? The only possible cause is the childhood vaccination program. The pertussis and measles vaccines are particularly dangerous, but all the vaccines have made a certain contribution.

This is not recognized by the US Public Health authorities, but the dispute between us is only quantitative. Even these authorities have been brought to recognize that the pertussis and measles vaccines can do a certain amount of damage. They recognized that vaccinations can, at times, cause encephalitis (which they call encephalopathy). And they have estimated that one child in 100,000 suffers long-term residual effects of childhood vaccinations, but they insist that all others escape without any damage at all. This idea runs counter to the normal medical/biological way of thinking according to which the application of a stress (such as a vaccine) to a large body of individuals will not yield an all-or-nothing response, but rather a graduated one. In other words, at one end of the spectrum you will find a group of seriously damaged children; at the other end there will be a group of children who are apparently not damaged at all. But in between you will find all the gradations of damage ranging from slight to serious.

It is our contention that the varieties of social pathology listed above constitute this body of vaccine damage. "We have met the enemy and he is us!!"

    Three comments:

    1. It is not surprising that the rise started in the 1950s and 1960s. Mass vaccination started after World War II, in the mid-1940s. Discussion of why "Johnny can't read" started in the mid-1950s, when this vaccinated generation started going to school, as did the rise in autoimmune diseases. But when this generation came to the age of 18 (1963) and entered the adult statistics, IQs started to decline, the crime rate started to rise, etc. etc.

    2. The role of genetics: not everyone suffers equally from a vaccination. This tendency does run in families, however, and would seem to have a genetic component.

    3. The black population and urban violence. Black children suffer from a variety of disabilities which makes them much more vulnerable to the effects of vaccination: more than 50% are out-of-wedlock births, meaning no father, an uneducated mother, no funds, no pregnancy care etc. Also more than 50% (75% ?) are premature and low birthweight (under 4-5 pounds). This also renders them highly vulnerable to the effects of vaccination.

[chottala.com] Chhatra League has gone beyond the control

BCL Gone Crazy
Hasina warns, MPs ignore

Bangladesh Chhatra League has gone beyond control as ruling party lawmakers have been ignoring Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's repeated directives to contain the unruly activities by the student body.

The unlawful and violent activities by the BCL are centred on different educational intuitions across the country under direct and indirect patronisation of local lawmakers, some of whom are even ministers.

While these leaders have been deliberately ignoring the prime minister's call for taking stern action against BCL activists involved in criminal activities, law enforcement agencies cannot also take any step against the wrongdoers because of the strong backing from these leaders.

The law enforcement agencies have informed the government about these patrons.

AL acting general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif also admitted that the allegation of patronisation by AL lawmakers is "partially" true.

"It is obvious that Chhatra League is involved in misdeeds under the patronisation of some ministers, lawmakers and party leaders in many places," he said last night. "We have recently warned these leaders in person, asking them not to interfere in Chhatra League affairs; otherwise, organisational action will be taken against them."

Hanif, also a special assistant to the PM, said police and Rapid Action Battalion have been given strict directives to take tough actions against those who are causing violence in the name of BCL or student politics.

"They have also been asked not to consider recommendations of any minister, state minister, lawmaker and party leader in favour of Chhatra League wrongdoers," he said.

Recently Barisal Polytechnic Institute, Dhaka University, Jagannath University, Jahangirnagar University, Chittagong University, Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka College, Edward College in Pabna, Kushtia Govt College and many other educational institutions across the country have witnessed unruly activities by BCL workers.

The three AL organising secretaries--Jahangir Kabir Nanak, BM Mojammel Haque and Ahmed Hossain--designated by the PM to look after BCL activities have apparently failed to bring the BCL back to track.

Mojammel claimed many goons and non-students have infiltrated BCL and been involved in unruly activities. "They should be identified and punished. It is not right to blame Chhatra League as a whole," he said.

AL policymaker Obaidul Quader also demanded identifying and punishing the party leaders who are patronising BCL in resorting to tender manipulation and other unlawful activities across the country.

The patronisation begins with the formation of different BCL units, including those at universities and colleges, under influence of local lawmakers.

The president and general secretary of the newly formed committee of Pabna district unit of the BCL were picked as per the choice of a lawmaker and a state minister, a few central BCL leaders said.

In fact, half of the 22 new BCL committees in Narsingdi, Habiganj, Jhenidah, Rangpur, Panchagarh, Lalmonirhat, Bandarban, Rajshahi and other districts were formed with leaders chosen by influential AL leaders and lawmakers, said the BCL leaders.

Efforts failed to contact at least 10 ministers, state ministers and MPs of these districts, who are allegedly patronising BCL units in their areas.

On the committee of Pabna BCL, State Minister for Home Shamsul Huq Tuku told The Daily Star that it was formed as per the choice of the central Chhatra League, not his.

"But the drive will continue against criminals assuming the identity of Chhatra League or Jubo League activists," he said.

On the Habiganj district committee, local lawmaker Mohammad Abu Zahir, who is also the general secretary of the district AL, said, "I can assure that Chhatra League will not engage in misdeeds in my district."

A top leader of central BCL preferring not to be named told The Daily Star, "As many Chhatra League leaders have strong backing from some ministers, lawmakers and Awami League leaders, they do not care us and are neither accountable to us nor are in our control."

AL Presidium member Obaidul Quader suggested five measurers for bringing the BCL back to track: stern legal action against wrongdoers, corrective measurers, reconstituting all BCL committees with students, holding elections to the student unions of educational institutions, and providing jobs to those who are no more students but have been engaged in politics for long.

He said BCL activists involved in criminal activities should be brought under speedy trial act and kept in jail for a few months.
