Re: [chottala.com] Fw: [Alapon] Prof Yunus News

Dr. Yunus has been a vocal critic of commercialised, for-profit microfinance. But in recent years, Grameen Bank has emerged as the joint venture partner of choice for many foreign companies seeking to do business in Bangladesh, including Norway's Telenor, France's Danone, and Japanese clothing company Fast Retailing, the maker of the Uniqlo brand.

For-profit Norweigian company Telenor holds 55.8 per cent of Dr. Yunus's
Grameenphone listed in Oslo Stock Exchange, with headquarters
in Norway.

In August-September, 2008, During last CTG period, $60 million in fines
was saddled on  Grameenphone by Bangladeshi regulators for illegalities.
Initially, Dr. Yunus threatened to sue in a news conference, but later
softened his stance, saying a lawsuit was only a "remote possibility."
Eventually, Grameenphone tacitly paid the fines........ (reuters).

It is the Norweigian's who awarded Peace Prize to Dr. Yunus (Nobel
The Peace Prize committee is head quartered in Norway not in in Sweeden
where the other Nobel Prize committees are based).

Now we are hearing :" Norweigians are after grameen bank money and its
reputation   ......"

The cats keep coming out of the bag …:
"Grameen Bank's filling a case against the news media who
is trying to tarnish Dr.Younus and country's image"
will reveal more insidious stories into public ...........
Dr. Yunus is cleaver man ..... I don't think he will let
more cats come out of his bags…

Mr. Dilawar Hossain writes:"We sincerely look forward to see your
initiative to aliviate poverty that we can be proud of  Mr. Azad
initiative to aliviate poverty........."

Mr. Hossain seems to drag the discussions on "political-economy and socio-political
issues"  to the personal level which is utterly diplorable......

In any case, "micro credit" option has failed as a viable model from
macro-economic stand point.

As far as I understand alleviation of poverty through "micro-finance"
was a cheap sham, a hoax .... In today's world, "poverty alleviation"
has become a big business under different lebash (cloak/outerwear).
I am not interested in wearing a deceptive lebash for my personal gains.
I rely on my own labor to earn a living  and live within my modest
means.... I have no amition  to be "rich and famous"........

By the way, the Yunus matter has become a "talk of the town" world
over: Reuters, WSJ, and many leading news agencies and media
ha already focused on it.

Thanks for your patience.

A Rahim Azad

PS: Dr. Yunus didn't receive the prize in Economics (from Sweeden).
Dr. Yunus was awarded Nobel Prize for Peace (from Norway) which
essentially has many political connotations ....: Even the Israeli leaders
like Shimon Peres, Yitzhak Rabin are Nobel Peace Laureates

List of Peace Laureates (last few Years):
2010
Liu Xiaobo
2009
Barack H. Obama

2008
Martti Ahtisaari

former President of Finland

2007

Do we really want to achieve "national pride" by the way of deceptions?
Professor Yunus may get away on technicalities......but the bottom
line is: the "micro credit" model has failed to aliviate proverty in the
truest sense.

National Pride: Nijere Korite Gourob Dan Nijere Koboli Kori Apoman !!!!!!

BTW, why blame BDNews24? The story was originated
by National Norwegian Television, and supported by in depth
research....

I have always wondered, why Professor Yunus was not given
Nobel Prize in Economics. He was awarded Nobel Prize for Peace,
which is a political tool controlled by certain vested quarter in the
west.

I am reacting to the news of Prof Yunus and that I do not wish to conclude
defaming our national pride. I also understand our Finance Minister AMA
Muhith has said that there was nothing wrong in the transfer of funds from
Grameen Bank to Grameen Kalyan and vice versa.
Frankly , the news brought very many debate in Bangladeshi Beltway politics
and I am sure of the same around the world.

I believe it is a misleading news and personal vendetta against prof Yunus
that strategically published globally.

I shame and specially regret and object to BDNews. 24 on Dec 1, that a
statement " siphoning off " of a large amount money by Professor Yunus"

It is cruel and a personal vendetta to defame our national pride around the
world.

I hope, the news and the investigation is false and a total fabrication and
baseless. and we wait to see an independent investigation.
