Required government permission to marry.

[chottala.com] Time dubs Indian PM as 'The Underachiever'

Time dubs Indian PM as 'The Underachiever'

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who has long been lauded for his pivotal role in liberalising the Indian economy, has been dubbed as an "underachiever" by a top US magazine which says he appears "unwilling to stick his neck out" on reforms that will put the country back on growth path.

79-year-old Singh is featured on the cover of Time magazine's Asia edition, which will be out next week. With his portrait in the background, the title on the cover reads 'The Underachiever India needs a reboot'.

Is Prime Minister Manmohan Singh up to the job?' Time's report titled 'A Man in Shadow' asks, adding that apart from facing the challenges of a slowdown in economic growth, huge fiscal deficit and a falling rupee, India's Congress party-led UPA coalition "has found itself fending off corruption scandals and accused of showing a lack of economic direction."

"....investors at home and abroad are beginning to get cold feet. Voters too are losing confidence, as rising inflation and a litany of scandals chip away at the government's credibility," the magazine said.

Pointing towards Singh's fall "from grace," the magazine said, "in the past three years, the calm confidence he (Singh) once radiated has been absent. He seems unable to control his ministers and his new, temporary portfolio at the Finance Ministry notwithstanding unwilling to stick his neck out on reforms that will continue the process of liberalisation he helped start."

The magazine said at a time when India cannot afford a slowdown in economic growth, "laws that could help create growth and jobs are stuck in Parliament, sparking concerns that politicians have lost the plot in their focus on shorterterm, populist measures that will win votes."

Re: [chottala.com] HOTLINE to PM Sheikh Hasina?

Miro bhai, you and i are in the same boat. Fortunately, few of us in these forums didn't sell our soul to any parties but Bangladesh.

I also almost stopped writing in these forums as well. It is just very hard to make a point with all the partisan people here. No matter how educated we are, seems like we completely lost any sight of light in our soul.

As an optimistic person i never lose hope. And still hope that, one day we will wake up, and help us to become good human being.

Anyhow, vala thaikkun are ekbar Toronto aai berai jon. It will be pleasure meeting you.

May Almighty bless us all and may Peace, Security, and Happiness be with us.

Ki khobor wa? I am not sure what is her(PM's)true intention here. I hope and pray that her intetion is good and all thieves will be rooted out soon. However, I hear that the corruption is rampant in Bangladesh and not limited to just few people....So, jei law shei kodhu as far as all the political parties go.

I dont write here that often. Whenever anyone say anything, they will be either called Bakshali + Bharot er dalal or Rajakar + pakistaner er dalal. There is no in between. In reality, I am a dalal of Bangladesh. I hate Pakistan for what they did to us back in 1971 and never said sorry. I also hate Inida when they kill my poor Bangladeshieople like animals (like Felani and thousands of other innocent people).

So, you can imagine, people like me will be equally hated by AL, BNP and Jamatees alike :-) LOL

Anyways, the entire nation had such high hopes after the era of Tareq Zia , Mamun and Coco etc. However, we now have new actors who replaced them (Tareq+mamun etc)and also stuck with all these Indian dadas plus die hard pro Indian advisors. The only hope is, the Bangladeshi people always rise up to the occasions, whenever needed. I truly pray that God will punish anyone who steals money from the poor nation of Bangladesh (no matter what party they belong to). I am hoping for a better dyas and I am hoping for better leaders ahead of us, inshallah. Ameen.

[chottala.com] Bangladeshi sculptor, daughter-in-law locked in India for 8 yrs

Bangladeshi sculptor, daughter-in-law locked in Tihar for 8 yrs

A 75-year-old Bangladeshi sculptor, whose works include the country's
Liberation War of 1971, and his daughter-in-law have been languishing
in Delhi's Tihar Jail for the last eight years. Rashid Ahmed and Nur
Nahar were arrested on the charge of possessing fake currency while on
a visit to India.

Mukto Bangla (Free Bangla), one of the sculptures designed by Ahmed,
is on display at the Islamic University in Kushtia, Bangladesh.

After waiting years, Ahmed's daughter, who is in Dhaka, has approached
the Bangladesh High Commission in India for the release of her father
whose health has been deteriorating.

Ahmed had come to Delhi in 2004 with daughter-in-law Nur Nahar as they
wanted to visit the dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer.

According to his family, Ahmed and Nur Nahar checked into a hotel in
Paharganj, Delhi where they later had an altercation with the manager
over money. The next thing they knew was that both had been arrested
by the CBI on the charge of possessing fake currency notes. Ahmed and
Nur Nahar were sent to jail after being produced in a city court.

Ahmed's daughter approached the Bangladesh High Commission which
subsequently sent several reminders to the Ministry of External
Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs regarding his early release.

In 2005, Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, then a Union Minister, also wrote to
External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh, asking him to look into the
matter.

In his letter, Dasmunsi said "Rashid Ahmed, who is a great sculptor of
Bangladesh... designed the monument of the liberation struggle...
Muktijudhha Smriti Soudha... came to India with his daughter-in-law...
on 20th December, 2004 he was arrested by some persons with fake
currency... since 22nd December, 2004, he is in custody in Tihar
Jail... since the days of the Bangladesh Liberation, this sculptor's
name is known not only in Bangladesh but parts of West Bengal as well
with respect. True it is that that the case is being pursued in court,
but it appears to me that if the artist is freed and proceedings are
withdrawn, it would be a great contribution to our understanding and
ties with Bangladesh. I cannot imagine and believe such an honest
sculptor shall indulge in such nefarious things."

When his comments were sought, Md. Nazibur Rahman, Minister (Consular)
at the Bangladesh High Commission, said: "After we sent reminders to
the MHA and MEA, we got a response from the MHA that the letter has
been sent to the authorities concerned. We have not got any
confirmation about Ahmed's release. Since the case is being tried in
court, expediting it is not in their hands."

[chottala.com] 'It's time to form 3rd political party'

'It's time to form 3rd political party'

Two major political parties – Awami League and BNP – have failed to
fulfil people's aspiration in the last 40 years, therefore time has
come to form a third political party with honest, patriotic and
visionary persons, Nagorik Oikya and civil society leaders observed on
Saturday.

Speaking at a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club, they said people
are fade up with the wrong leadership of Khaleda Zia and Sheikh
Hasina, chiefs of BNP and AL, as they do not practice democracy in
their respective parties.

"People don't have trust in the two top leaders of our country as they
do not think country's welfare in real. People still cast their votes
either for BNP or for AL as they don't have any alternative. People is
eagerly waiting for an alternative political party to come and save
them from the present misrule of the two parties in turn," said M
Hafizuddin Khan, former adviser to a caretaker government.

Blasting BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and AL President Sheikh Hasina,
he said of the two top leaders, one is known as "gonotontrer
manoskonna" while the others as "ganotontrer agnikonna". Both are
shouting for democracy but they do not practice democracy within their
parties.

Khan added since restoration of democracy in1991, people had been
waiting for a change in politics, but nothing has changed. "Awami
League in its electoral manifesto pledged for charter of change but it
is acting the opposite in real. Both the parties have similarity in
one thing. When they come to power, they make partisan in every
sector. People want to get rid of the situation," he added.

Former president of Narayanganj district AL SM Akram said, "We all
should do something to save people from the autocratic rule of the two
parties by turn." A former bureaucrat and former AL lawmaker, Akram
also said, "If BNP comes to power, we will not be able to live in this
country. Same thing will happen if Awami League again comes to power
in the next polls. That's why we need do create some alternative
platform for people."

Akram who acted as the main architect behind victory of Selina Hayat
Ivy in the Narayanganj City Corporation polls in 2011 ignoring AL high
command's directive, resigned from the party the following day of
Ivy's victory. He said except Bangabandhu, no top leader of the two
major parties has patriotism in them as they only aim to go to power
and make money.
