Tue, Mar 13th, 2012 9:36 pm BdST

Chittagong, Mar 13 (bdnews24.com) – A robbery case has been filed against a former commander and nine RAB men for looting over Tk 20 million from a shrine in Chittagong.

Former chief of RAB-7, Lt Col Zulfikar Ali Majumdar has been named as the main accused while nine others are captain Wahidul Hasan, deputy additional director Abul Bashar, sub-inspectors Tarun Kumar Basu and Nayek Hasanuzzaman, assistant sub-inspectors Ali Ashraf and Jahangir Alam, Nayek Mohammad Liton, constable Sumon and soldier Jasim Uddin.

All of the accused were deputed at RAB-7 stationed in Chittagong.

Two informer of the elite crime fighting force – namely Didarul Alam and Anwar Mia – were also sued.

Mohammad Idris, a driver of Talsara Darbar Sharif at Anwara upazila, filed the case with Anwara Police Station on Tuesday noon, OC Mohammad Shahjahan told bdnews24.com.

According to case details, the RAB personnel looted the money from the shrine in the name of a raid on Nov 4, 2011. A RAB team led by Zulfikar Ali Majumdar raided the shrine and looted the money after breaking open an almira.

The RAB personnel also arrested five Myanmar nationals from the shrine and handed them over to the police station, but did not mention the money.

The authorities of Talsara Darbar Sharif lodged a written complaint with the police station but no case was lodged.

As the news spread, OC Shahjahan said that the RAB headquarters had formed an investigation committee.

The accused RAB men were withdrawn from their duties after a primary investigation confirmed their involvement, said the Anwara OC.

[chottala.com] Student Leaders (A must read article published by poipular NFB)

Student Leaders

Tuesday March 06 2012 20:14:20 PM BDT

By F R Chowdhury. UK

Ever since I settled down in the UK, I have been a regular reader of some of the locally published Bengali papers. One very common news item that I read is about receptions in honour of some student leader from Bangladesh. There is no end to such receptions. They have been taking place for long and will probably continue to take place in future.

What we understand as a student loader in this country is a brilliant and outstanding student who draws the respect and admiration of other students. They are like role models to other students. They also lead various students movements independent of political parties. These are mostly for the cause of education such as for lowering university fees, increasing stipends and scholarships for meritorious students or for increasing library facilities. They do not join political parties for their programmes.

Back in Bangladesh it is different. Student leaders are not necessarily good students. They are like gang leaders. They are very loyal and obedient followers of their political masters. They are unfortunately associated with activities not conducive in a civilised society such as rioting, killing, raping, hi-jacking etc. I still remember, perhaps three or four years after our liberation that seventeen students were massacred in the university campus by brush-firing. No-body had to face any legal action. In matter of few days the prime suspect emerged as a new political leader. It is a matter of shame on the student community and its leaders who could commit such heinous crime. These so-called student leaders now want to control admission of new students. They seem determined to destroy educational system and infrastructure. As it is, in last few years standard of education in Bangladesh has already retreated a lot. Degree from a Bangladesh university is not accepted for higher studies in UK or USA.

Poor parents from remote villages sometime sell the last piece of land or cattle to send a son to a big city for higher education. On arrival they become easy prey for the student leaders who train them in the art of bomb-making. Then rival gangs clash with each other for control of students' hostels. The rich, who can afford, send their children abroad for education. Most of them never return Bangladesh. Those who return hold key position in public and private sector. The so-called student leaders are to blame for this trend of not allowing the poor to get educated. They have simply destroyed the educational environment. We could do better without Chatra League, Chatra Dal, Chatra Union, Shibir etc.

Let us look at their achievement in the field of education. If we take into consideration last 25 years we can hardly find any of these so-called student leader to have established themselves in the society as a top civil servant or a high court judge or barrister or General or Admiral or a famous doctor or engineer. Other than one or two exceptions I have not heard about any of them having a Ph.D. One cannot achieve them by street demonstration or gang activity. They require talent, merit and efforts.

Recently the weekly "Janomot" published a list of one hundred most influential Bangladeshi in British society. It included civil servants, military personnel, doctors, engineers, accountants, lawyers, professors, politicians and business leaders. It was a good effort by "Janomot". I am sure our younger generations shall be inspired. However, the reason I am writing about is that despite my best efforts I could not trace out any of our so-called student leaders there.

There was a time when the nation used to be proud of the student community. The students provided the leadership during our language movement. The students fought alongside rest of the people for the liberation of the country. Many sacrificed their lives. We remember them with lot of admiration. The present student community got a lot to learn from them. But first of all they have to get rid of the selfish bunch so-called student leaders.

We the senior citizens have a responsibility. We must not give up. We must continue our efforts to bring all students back on track for education. It is only through better education that we can make Bangladesh prosperous. Please, no more reception for these so-called student leaders. We must honour our talented students.

[chottala.com] Re: Listen what he says at BNP 12 March rally

Dear respected Rashid Vai.

How was 2nd GM of the BANZI? How are our BANZI members?

Thanks for your attachment; I have seen this as I got this from many peoples also. I know many things about him.

He was our neighbor (in Razabazar) when this notorious Shafiul Alam Pradhan was general Secretary (GS) & Organizing Secretary (OS) of BCL during 1972 to 1974. He was son of Deputy Speaker Gamiruddin Pradhan (ML leader). Govt intelligence agency did not permitted him to be GS of BCL. But due to pressure from BCL leaders & workers he was made GS of BCL. He also married a BCL leader Rehana Apa

I was very close to him too. But when we came to know his real face - we all deserted him.

This notorious killer Shafiul Alam Pradhan who was prime killer of 7 students (most of them from Naraynganj) of Dhaka University in 1974. He was arrested by Bangabandhu led Awami League (AL) government for this crime, though he (SAP) was top leader of BCL (Pro AL Govt) in 1972-74. He was Organizing Secretary of BCL in 1973 and General Secretary of BCL in 1974. Many BCL leader-worker (including the then BCL President, now BNP leader, Monirul Haq Choudhury of Comilla) made protest and even carried out hunger strike for his release. But when we came to know facts and face - we all deserted him.

Then he was convicted in court for life for killing 7 students

This betrayer and notorious convicted killer was pardoned by another notorious General Zia.

This notorious convicted killer, Shafiul Alam Pradhan was again caught - while he was robbering a gold shop in Baitul Mukarram, Dhaka in Zia era and he (SAP) was pardoned again by culprit Gen Zia.

This betrayer and notorious killer Shafiul Alam Pradhan was against Khaleda-Tarek as he did not got the nomination in 2001 election from BNP JOT.

He killer SAP) then started uttering similar very 'bad' comments-words against notorious Khaleda-Tarek during 2001 to 2007. He then joined JP of Ershad and later on made another fraction of JP (TRINOMUL).

This betrayer and notorious killer was trying to join Awami League (AL) and Sheikh Hasina strongly opposed.

Then he tried to join in Awami League (AL) led MOHAJOT, there also he was stoutly opposed by Sheikh Hasina for his dirty and foul past political record.

Then he started again to get KEEPA DRISTI of Khaleda again by speaking again against Awami League (AL) led MOHAJOT govt. Then BNP gave him shelter again to this betrayer and notorious killer Shafiul Alam Pradhan

Shame to this notorious killer Shafiul Alam Pradhan!!!

Shame to this notorious Khaleda-Tarek for giving political backing and shelter to this notorious killer Shafiul Alam Pradhan!!!
