[chottala.com] Re: [notun_bangladesh] Pak Army Launches Ghaznavi Missile

Mr. Md. Mostafa Kamal

Where did you find that I was blaming the innocent people of

Pakistan? The ordinary  people of Pakistan are just like people of any

other country …they are honest and simple minded (and hard

working too). The elites and ruling junta of Pakistan lacks far sight

and they don't understand the foot steps of history. They have mostly

used religion to achieve their own narrow interest.

Julfi Bhutto's personal ambition definitely accelerated the breakup of

Pakistan, but he was definitely not the main culprit behind 1971's

Genocide in Bangladesh.

The main perpetrator behind 1971 Genocide in Bangladesh is

the Pakistan military hierarchy, the successors of Field

Marshal Mohammad Ayub  Khan.The Islam-passand ideology of

Pakistan also played a role.

On February 22, 1971 the generals in West Pakistan took a decision

to crush the democratic forces in Bangladesh (then East Pakistan)

and the supporters of Mujib. It was approved by the ruling

elites of Pakistan,  from the very beginning, that a campaign of

genocide would be necessary to eradicate the threat to their power:

"Kill three million of them," said President Yahya Khan at the

February conference of the officers, "and the rest will eat out

of our hands." (Robert Payne, Massacre [1972], p. 50.) On March 25

the genocide was  launched  ........ Anti-people militarism still exist in

Pakistan

Except for tiny section of progressive intelligentsia, most Pakistanis

don't accept the fact that Pakistan was at fault for the break up and

genocide of  1971. They still think Bangladeshis were Gaddars ....

traitors .... You may be right on your assertion that  ordinary "People

were lack of correct information & huge miss-wrong information

around them." ...... this is still continuing .....continuing in every front

.....As I have said before, most things in Pakistan are done by the

way of deception... the real victim is the ordinary masses of Pakistan......

You have mentioned:  "Gradually they accept it. But the PPP & late

Benajir Bhutto did not accept it." If the people of Pakistan had

accepted their fault as a nation, they would have apologized to

people of Bangladesh through a resolution in their National parliament.

37 years have passed, we haven't seen any major  political party or any

grass-root mass organization has even admitted  the crime their nation

had committed. They still think that except for  few "pan-Islamist

intellectuals" like yourself, all other Bangladeshis are

 "Dalals of India."

I admit, I have many problems: but your statement "Your

problem is you're jealous of Pakistan" is totally wrong and

obnoxious....this has hurt my perception of yourself as a dignified

intellectual with some integrity. That was basically a very cheap

slogan mongering in your part.

In any case, what is so good about Pakistan that you cherish so much?

What is there to be jealous of Pakistan? Rather, I am worried about the

fate of ordinary people of Pakistan, the ordinary masses, the innocent

devout moslems, the Baluchis, the Sindhis, Pakhtuns, the Mohajirs, and

even the rural onion-chapati eating Punjabis ......

The 1971 Bangladesh Liberation war was not a result of ethnic rivalry

as many of us  would like to portray.   I was it was essentially a fight

against an occupation regime representing an oligarchy, a ruling elite

that wanted to maintain it's hegemony on the political power structure

of Pakistan. The State of Pakistan broke into two pieces, but the

Junta was the winner, it kept grip it's on the remaining Pakistan

even stronger than ever before. As a result, a deep rooted &

opportunistic Military Economy flourished in Pakistan. Dr. Ayesha's

recent book Military Inc. focuses on the economic empire that has

been built up by the arm forces in Pakistan, The Milbus or the military

economy where the profits accrue, without any accountability, to

some individuals in the top echelon of the army, navy and air force.

Finally, I regret to say that you have shown a very creative way

of justifying the atrocities of Pakistan in 1971 through your

innuendeos. The Pakistan by itself is a phenomenon that

necessiates a thorow analysis and understanding: This

was not an accident that 1971 happened ....The top echelon

of Pakistan seems have forgotten the lessons learned during

their "reign" of Bangladesh .... the same ruling class attitude

combined with opportunism & heavy-handedness that broke

Pakistan still exists. That's what makes me concerned about

the ultimate disaster that's waiting to happen. Just as before,

the causes are still internal, stock pile atom-bombs or Gaznavi

Missiles would not save this nation from it's ultimate collaspe.

These are merely tools to deceive their own people. Only thing

that can save Pakistan is to trust its own people, nor heavy

military built up.

I know, that the lovers of the Milbus of Pakistan will not agree

with me, I agree to disagree with them.

By the way, the timing of  Launching of Ghaznavi Missile  suggets

that it was a show-off to motivate the ordinary voters in PML-Quaid's

favor, but Allah the almighty had some thing else in mind. It didn't seem

to have worked........

Your problem is you're jealous of Pakistan. Where ever it gains success & good things you simply can not accept it. Like the Indians you are also hate Pakistan comprehensively. Police remand should be stopped immediately as many innocent people are being tortured in the remand, speakers at a workshop said yesterday.

They also called for raising mass awareness in order to put an end to all kinds of torture against women, children, labourers, detainees, prisoners and political activists.

The Centre for Rehabilitation of Torture Survivors (CRTS) organised two-day workshop on 'Comprehensive rehabilitation of torture victims' at the Academy for Planning and Development (APD) in the city. A total of 41 participants took part in the workshop.

ASM Shahjahan, former adviser to the caretaker government, said many innocent people are falling victim to torture in the police remand.

Police remand should be stopped immediately as it leads to violations of human rights, he said as the chief guest at the concluding session of the workshop.

Human rights activist Dr Hameeda Hossain and CRTS Executive Director Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan and President Dr Abdus Sobhan were also present.

Re: [chottala.com] IGP admits human rights violation by police

So it is  proved that it is now very essential in Bangladesh to introduce a system for providing nation wide quality education to the professional people along with others esp (police army teachers politicians & others) to make them quality educated in their respective working field so that they can do their works lawfully corretly.

Syed Aslam <Syed.Aslam3@gmail.com> wrote:
Policemen violate HR for lack of knowledge : IGP

UNB, Dhaka

Inspector General of Police Nur Mohammad yesterday said policemen violate human rights for a lack of knowledge about people's fundamental rights.

"For lack of knowledge about human rights, policemen in many countries violate human rights through illegal arrest and detention, arbitrary or unlawful killing, torture, arbitrary interference in people's private life and infringement of the freedom of press," he said.

The police chief made the observations while addressing the inauguration ceremony of a 5-day Commonwealth Human Rights Training for police officers at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the afternoon.

He said the cops have to safeguard some basic rights of a country's citizens during preventing crime and enforcing law.The IGP noted that people are now more concerned about their rights and franchise than before.

Police cannot protect human rights in any community if they do not know how they should work in a framework of internationally accepted human-right standards and practices, he said.

" We no longer believe in the colonial impression of police, which had more to do with suppression and oppression of the people," said the new-generation police top boss, who was brought in amid sweeping reforms in the country under the interim regime.

But, nowadays, Bangladesh police is trying to make a U-turn by rebuilding its image, and the Commonwealth Human Rights Training would mark as a leap forward towards that end, he hoped.

The IGP believes that continued cooperation and more such C' wealth-sponsored training programmes would go a long way in uplifting the image of police department.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Naim Ahmed, Additional IGP (Training) SM Sajjat Ali and Head of Commonwealth Secretariat Human Rights Unit Dr Purna Sen also spoke on the occasion.

[chottala.com] Musharraf to be lame duck--or jobless

NEWS ANALYSIS

[ The election commission put turnout according to early results at about 45 per cent – higher than in the previous two elections. ]

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf will become a powerless leader at best -- and could lose his job -- after his parliamentary supporters conceded defeat in elections, analysts said yesterday.

The former ruling party, which backed Musharraf for the past five and a half years, conceded defeat Tuesday following parliamentary polls a day earlier.

The concession by the Pakistan Muslim League-Q left the parties of former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto, the slain opposition leader, on course for victory.

After holding a firm grip on power for eight years, the former general and key US ally in the fight against al-Qaeda will have to make frantic deals with a hostile parliament that could in theory call for his impeachment, the analysts said.

"Musharraf has become a lame duck president," said Hasan Askari, a political analyst teaching at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, DC.

"For him the most crucial issue will be his political survival rather than fighting the war against terrorism."

Askari said Musharraf will "find it difficult to work with the opposition that wants to undo most of the steps taken by him after the suspension of the constitution in November" under a state of emergency.

The president's influence had already been eroded by his November resignation as army chief after months of political turmoil, a move that robbed him of his main source of power, Askari added.

Strategic Forecasting, private Washington-based analysts, called the election results a "disastrous outcome" for the president's allies.

"It appears that Musharraf was no longer able to make use of the state machinery (especially the intelligence agencies) to rig the vote," they said.

Sharif, whom Musharraf ousted in a 1999 coup, has been uncompromising in his calls for the man he calls "dictator" to step down. Benazir Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party (PPP) still mistrusts Musharraf after the death of its leader in a gun and suicide attack at a rally on December 27.

Analysts said that with neither party likely able to form a government on their own, Musharraf may try to split the PPP from Sharif with the promise of the prime minister's post if they join with independent MPs who are loyal to him.

"President Musharraf would be under great pressure because his position has been greatly weakened, because it's an indictment against his policy," Talat Masood, a former general who is now a defence and political analyst, told AFP.

The opposition could unite to get the two-thirds majority they need to seek Musharraf's ouster through impeachment, although analysts see this as unlikely because Musharraf retains the power to dissolve the government.

"The situation is extremely troublesome for him. He may try to undermine the internal coherence of the opposition but it is such a landslide that he may find it difficult to stay at the helm of the affairs," Askari said.

Shafqat Mahmood, a political analyst and newspaper columnist, said any attempt at manipulating the opposition would fail.

[chottala.com] Why Obama!!

I am not an American but the extreme power exercise of America upon the whole world attracts my attention to American presidency race. This is the first time American people can choose one woman or black as a president. If I were a voter then I must choose Obama. America should come out from prejudices and that acid test can be done by choosing Obama as president. I know that imperialist America will not change for this choice. We want to see the progress by defeating prejudices of hating black and discrimination of a person from Muslim culture. Obama has black origin and he has Muslim cultural heritage also and this is the right time for American people to change their mindset.  The momentum I observe is positive attitude of the great nation to come out from all kinds of hate and discrimination.

[chottala.com] Saudi draft law to curb family violence(women and children)

Saudi draft law to curb family violence

02/18/2008 07:47 PM | By Mariam Al Hakeem, Correspondent

Riyadh: A draft on a by-law to protect women and children against sexual, psychological and physical abuse will be finished next week, Saudi Minister of Social Affairs Abdul Mohsen Al Akkas has announced.
The study by the Experts Commission of the Council of Ministers came after reports by Saudi and foreign human rights groups. The minister told reporters on Saturday evening that the new law was a qualitative move to eliminate domestic violence.
"What makes the ministry prepare this draft law is that there are cases of violence not only against wives but against children too," the minister said.
According to media reports, 569 domestic violence cases were filed in 2005. Of these 230 were in the southern region, 130 in the Makkah region, 60 in Hail, 17 in Tabuk, six in Baha and Najran, another six in Al Jouf, four in Jazan and four in the Northern Frontier region.
Meanwhile, in a related development, a number of Saudi women have called for the acceleration of the formation of family courts. Earlier, the Saudi monarch King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz ordered the formation of family courts to confront the problem.
Drug addiction
Maha Al Ghamdi, a social supervision employee at the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said during a recent seminar that 323 women in Riyadh reported cases of family violence last year, comprising 87 per cent of the total cases reported, while 50 men or 13 per cent complained of family violence.
She added that 48 per cent of the cases involved physical violence while 5 per cent concerned psychological violence.
The most common age group subjected to family violence was between 19 and 35, she said. She added that drug addition, family problems and psychological disturbances were the main factors behind family violence.
Al Jawhara Al Anqari, a founding member of the Saudi National Human Rights Society (NHRS), said that 45 per cent of Saudi children are subjected to violence in different forms. She called earlier for a fatwa (Islamic legal opinion) on women's rights.
She pointed out that the increase in domestic violence in the kingdom has led to calls for the preparation and teaching of school textbooks on human rights. She said that 90 per cent of the provisions of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights comply with Islamic Sharia.

[chottala.com] Saudi ministry admits some imams lack qualifications

Saudi ministry admits some imams lack qualifications

02/19/2008 12:35 AM | By Mariam Al Hakeem, Correspondent

Riyadh: An official at the Saudi ministry of Islamic affairs ruled out accusations that prayer imams and preachers in Saudi Arabia are not concerned in their sermons with the daily social life of citizens.
Dr Tawfeeq Al Sudairy, undersecretary of the Saudi ministry of Islamic affairs, described as "individual behaviour and not a phenomena" the use of mosques' Friday sermons for promoting certain ideologies.
In statements to Gulf News, Ministry of Islamic Affairs officials warned against the phenomenon of individual fatwas (Islamic edicts) in particular when it comes to public and major issues.
He underlined the importance of adopting what he called 'collective fatwas' on major issues and topics that concern the whole society. He added that these fatwas were reached after studies and research from prominent Muslims scholars.
Obstacles
Meanwhile, the Ministry has admitted that some of its mosques imams (prayer leaders) and preachers lack qualifications that enable them to promote the role of mosques.
In a report, to be discussed by the Saudi Shura (Consultative Council) soon, the ministry said that there are a number of obstacles that prevent the ministry from performing its expected tasks.
It cited the weak financial support for holy Quran memorisation societies, the difficulty in obtaining official documents for endowments and the ministry's lack of well-qualified translators in religious sciences.
But the Islamic affairs committee at the Shura Council said that the report lacks comparisons between performance indicators of the ministry and so it is difficult to know the degree of improvement in the performance.
The committee ignored the long list of complaints, the ministry said should be solved, in order to enable it perform its tasks efficiently. The Shura committee allocated 91 million Saudi riyals (Dh89.24million) for purchasing new equipment for King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Quran. It asked the ministry to find fixed resources for covering the expenses of its charitable foundations and endowment libraries.
Earlier a number of Shura members called for the restructuring of the ministry in a way that it would no longer remain a burden to the state's treasury.

They proposed the formation of an independent commission to look after mosques and another endowment independent body with an appointed board of directors not linked to the ministry.
