[chottala.com] Bhai Akta Proshno

Dear chottala readers,

I may misunderstand about Mr. Mohammad Rabby's viewpoint as because I have noticed since Dr. Muhammad Yunus received that Nobel Peace Prize so many people starting from our big big politicians upto many of our common people from our own Bangladesh criticized him, by telling him as "Sudkhor and Gushkor" and what not, instead of appreceating him for bringing such a graceful position for our smallest poorest country Bangladesh in the world map.

The process only introduced by Dr. Muhammad Yunus which was appreciated by Nobel Peace committee to decide before awarding Nobel Peace Prize to him. Even Bill Clinton the former President of United States appreciated it. Not only Bill Clinton but also many countries appreciated that system as it was for the people, of the people, with the exception of some of our so called intellingentia group from our own people of Bangladesh.

Now it is our people whose duty is to implement it in the right way to change their lot. What Engineer Mohammad Rabby raised a question I don't disagree with his asking whether our people are really getting benefit out of this or not, but we should always remember the common proverb "what is lotted cannot be blotted".

Starting from our Prime Minister upto all level of political leaders are expressing always their willingness to remove poverty from our country. Dr. Muhammad Yunus also by introducing his process of new invention with the idea of improving the fate of our poor people which is recognised overwhelmingly throughout the world. It is too early to comment anything. Let us wait and see whether our poor people are really going to have any benefit out of this or not. Then and then only we can say "grameen bank er madhhome asholei ki daridhro ghuchechhe / ghuchchhe bangladeshe???"

Dowllah (Dr. Siraj Uddowllah)

please read carefully, what i have asked --

i did not raise question why he was awarded nobel..

my question was could GB realy helped bangladeshi poors -- are we able to upgrade bangladesh!!!

can we see this!!  if it realy does,, why whole bangladesh is not adopting it and why can't we be changed??

it is very easy to say theoritically, it is very difficult also at times --- but this never matters. we as a general people like to see the result -- we like feel the change -- we like to introduce ourselves as improved bangladeshis -- we like to walk in the same lane with all our brothers -- we like to see my fellow bangladeshi is not talking to me with fear because he is poor -- we like to see no one is taking extra advantage/ extra attention because he is noble/ intellectual/ rich etc.
i am an engineer and i believe , there is always a huge difference from what we read and what we see practically.
my question is not to harrase MR. YOUNUS.. what ever / how ever it is, his nobel is the greatest achievement of our nation. At times i also get emotional watching him.. but now after 38 years of our birth i want to be emotional watching new bangladesh... walking foreign roads with great proud,, which i cant do now with one great scholler and millions of poors behind..

i just can't.

[chottala.com] Crime against women in 1971 Bangladesh

Here is a daily Shamokal post-editorial on Crime Against Women in 1971 in occupied Bangladesh:

Violence against women
Numerous women were tortured, raped and killed during our liberation war by the Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators many of whom belonged to Jamaat's armed  Al-Bodor militia.

The exact numbers are not known and are a subject of debate. Bangladeshi sources cite a figure of 200,000 women raped, giving birth to thousands of war-babies. The Pakistan Army also kept numerous Bengali women as sex-slaves inside the Dhaka Cantonment.  Among other sources, Susan Brownmiller refers to an even higher number of over 400,000. Pakistani sources claim the number is much lower, though having not completely denied rape incidents. Brownmiller quotes:
Khadiga, thirteen years old, was interviewed by a photojournalist in Dacca. She was walking to school with four other girls when they were kidnapped by a gang of Pakistani soldiers. All five were put in a military brothel in Mohammedpur and held captive for six months until the end of the war.

Another work that hashttp://globalwebpost.com/genocide1971/chaps/brownmiller.htm included direct experiences from the women raped is Ami Birangona Bolchhi ("I, the heroine, speak") by Nilima Ibrahim. The work includes in its name from the word Birangona (Heroine), given by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman after the war, to the raped and tortured women during the war.

Kazi Nazrul Islam(1898-1976):Poet-icon of Bangladesh

Portrait of Kazi Nazrul Islam
(Portrait of Kazi Nazrul Islam: water colour, by Alaptagin Tushar 1995 Dhaka)

Kazi Nazrul Islam was born on the 25th May 1898 at Churulia in the district of Burdwan, West Bengal, India.
This partiot, poet, composer writer, political figure or the myriad minded man edited a politico-cultural magazine "Dhumketu".

The poet died at Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh as National poet on the 29th August 1976. Nazrul Institute, an institution works for research and propagating the poets life, works and ideals, is situated in Dhaka with several branches in divisional towns. Bangla Academy has published collected works of the poet to celebrate the poets birth centenary in the year(1999).

A marble statue of poet just behind him in the picture

The rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was crowned in 1972 as the national poet of Bangladesh. He was living a seclusive life with no care in a shabby, nasty and crowded cottage in Calcutta. West Bengal government did not even arrange a bed in any convalescent home for the poet who was suffering from irreversible brain-damage and living nearly a vegetative life.

Under the auspicious of Bangladesh government of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the poet was moved to Dhaka, capital of newly liberated Bangladesh situated 125 km west of Trishal a small township in Mymensingh district where Kazi Nazrul Islam spent several years during his boyhood.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman arranged round the clock nursing, physiotherapy since his arrival in Dhaka.

The picture used in this page is from 1972 taken on his birthday. Firoza Begum, the famous Nazrulgeeti-singer in Bangladesh, who was acquainted with the poet during her youth, had the opportunity to sing infront of him on his birthday or popularly called Nazrul jayanti in 1972.The ailing poet being able neither to speak nor to hear became overwhelmed with joy which radiated from his face, this rare moment of the poet's life was camera freezed by my friend, an ametaur photographer and now a physician in Dhaka, Mamunar Rashid (Madan) , he even arranged my entrance at Nazrul' s residence at Dhanmondi at the outskirt of Dhaka at the same occasion.
