[chottala.com] Humayun's Ghetu Putro Komola and Harem of Billy Hale

Theme of Humayun Ahmed's last film Ghetu Putro Kimola and the film "Harem" directed by Billy Hale, released in 1986, is almost similar. The former is based on Chowdhury Zemider's licentious way of life inside Mahal having pleasure by homosexuality with pleasure boy (promod balak), while the latter portrayed on celluloid the wanton lifestyle of the Sultan of Ottoman Empire inside Harem having pleasure by heterosexuality with kidnapped and sold women (jouna dasshi). In Harem, the queen's attempt of annihilating the object of enjoyment and in Ghetu Putro Komola, Begum's way of killing the pleasure boy is identical in nature. A deep insight can reveal the fact.

I am not a film critic. I love watching movies. There are many subjects of glory and tradition in Bengal's history. In his previous films, Late Humayun stamped his mark creditably. This type of subject is almost rotten and this area of distasteful topic is not even unexplored. I wonder, why this film is much talked about and nominated for international accreditation! Is it only for portrayal of having illegal pleasure by medieval Bengalee feudal lords? How can this film is worthy of watching accompanied by family? Or even the peril of adverse impact on teenager's or adolescent's mind cannot be undermined.
