PM's DPS Shakil sent back home from NY Sexual abuse attempt alleged

Staff Reporter

Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Mahbubul Haque Shakil has been sent back home from New York after making him stand release.

Law enforcers arrested drunken Shakil when he tried to forcibly enter a room of a foreign ministry official in Grand Hayat Hotel in New York city on Thursday midnight (USA time), reports News World, a New York-based news agency.

Shakil was included in the entourage of the Prime Minister who is now attending the 65th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York.

The news agency could not reach Prime Minister's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad for his comment on the matter.

However, Prime Minister's entourage and also Principal Secretary Md Abdul Karim admitted that Shakil was sent back but he did not explain the incident.

It is learnt that drunken Shakil tried to intrude into a room of Grand Hayat Hotel in New York City reserved for Director (Foreign Ministry) Shahnaj Gazi Thursday midnight. However, everybody kept mum on the matter.

Being informed, the security department directed Shakil to leave the USA immediately. Otherwise, there is a tough law in the USA for sexual harassment.

An official of the hotel termed the incident very disgraceful and said, "The allegation is now under investigation. Investigative Officers may talk to the Bangladesh Mission in this regard."

Sources said, hearing the incident the Prime Minister instantly ordered the authorities concerned to send back him (Shakil) to Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, no official version of the Bangladesh Mission in the USA was available in this regard.

When asked about the incident, Foreign Secretary Mijarul Quayes expressed his ignorance on this issue.

Talking to The News World, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh Mission in New York Ambassador AK Abdul Momen said, "I heard nothing about this."

Shakil was vice-president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of ruling Bangladesh Awami League.

[chottala.com] Intellectual retard to become next Chief Justice of Bangladesh!

Intellectual retard to become next Chief Justice of Bangladesh!

I hope the reader will excuse the title of the piece since on hearing the news that Justice ABM Khairul Haq has now been officially anointed as the next Chief Justice of Bangladesh I was immediately overcome with a sense of dismay, shock and profound horror at this appallingly bad decision. While I was tempted to describe Justice Haq as a mental retard I knew this to be obviously not true but I have no doubt in my mind that he is an intellectual retard.  Justice Haq is known to view the world exclusively via the prism of Awami League history, ideology and politics and has little or no understanding of the nature of law and its limitations. He was, however, an obvious choice for the fascist Awami League since there is a strong possibility that Khairul Haque will head the next caretaker government depending on the length of his tenure and that of his successor. The Awami League is certainly taking no chances as they felt betrayed by Justice Latifur Rahman who was their favoured choice for caretaker head prior to the 2001 elections but who then displayed an unexpected and surprising zeal for ensuring total impartiality and neutrality in the civil administration and whose commendable actions and decisions contributed to the crushing defeat of the AL in the general elections held that year. Justice Haq is also likely to oversee the appeals process from the BDR mutiny trials which will be a sensitive matter for the AL as many members of the government have been implicated in the conspiracy. It is likely that Justice Haq will play an important role in further amending the constitution through an exercise of judicial power beyond that provided for by law. Justice Haq is also expected to be vocal on the issue of war crimes further compromising the neutrality and fairness of those trials. While all these observations may seem to be highly speculative now, Justice Haq has already made his views abundantly clear on all of these matters and there is no doubt in my mind that his earlier expressions and opinions will influence his every judgment and official  pronouncement in the coming months. Justice Haq's slanted and jaundiced view of the world became obvious to many during the appeal hearings in the Bangabandhu Murder Case where he gave free reign to his personal prejudices and most recently in the 5th amendment case which outlawed military takeovers but was a ruling that went beyond the powers granted to the courts by the constitution. To be more precise Justice Haq tends to make political rulings and not legal ones and it is not entirely clear that he understands the difference so making him a uniquely dangerous judge.

I have already described the Awami League as a fascist party so Justice Haq would be akin to that of a Nazi judge. He is in fact a total fanatic. He is blinded completely by party loyalty and to the wishes of the party leader like any true blue fascist judge. His rulings against military takeover should not be taken as support for democracy since he probably sees no inherent difficulties with a Baksalite form of government. He will certainly be no respecter of freedom of speech and expression and will likely limit criticism of the government and also extend the ambit of contempt of court to circumscribe any show or form of disapproval of court rulings and decisions. It is hoped that Justice Haq will not in future have to bear comparison with defendant Oswald Rothaug who was sentenced by the Nuremburg War Crimes court, "[Rothaug] formed his opinions from dubious records submitted to him before trial. By his manner and methods he made his court an instrumentality of terror and won the fear and hatred of the population. From the evidence of his closest associates as well as his victims, we find that Oswald Rothaug represented in Germany the personification of the secret Nazi intrigue and cruelty. He was and is a sadistic and evil man. Under any civilized judicial system he could have been impeached and removed from office or convicted of malfeasance in office on account of the scheming malevolence with which he administered injustice."
