This is the first time the Embassies of eight test playing countries namely Australia, Bangladesh, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Trinidad & Tobago and the United Kingdom have come together to organize this tournament in the USA. We have plans to keep up the spirit in coming years making it a regular annual event as well as expanding its horizons among the other test and non-test playing Cricket-nations based in the USA. The Ambassador of each participating nation will represent his/her team as the ceremonial captain.

The objectives of this tournament are as follows:
·         Promoting Cricket as a popular sport in the USA
·         Promoting Cricket among the young generation of expatriate communities of Cricket-playing nations
·         Promoting people to people level contacts among the Diaspora-groups of Cricket-loving nations in the USA

This year, the Embassy of the New Zealand has come forward to take up the responsibility of the organizing nation. While we appreciate New Zealand's leadership role this time, we hope to become the organizing country of the next year's tournament.

As one of the most popular sports in the world, Cricket, no doubt, has the power to bring together people from every continent—from Australia and South Asia to the Caribbean, and from Europe to Africa.  Indeed, Cricket upholds the spirit of unity in diversity. We are, therefore, delighted to be part of this initiative, particularly because, Cricket holds an important place in our national life. Needless to mention, Cricket is by far the most popular sport in today's Bangladesh in terms of its appeal across all ages and classes of people. Being such an important part of our national identity, Cricket can potentially play an important role in promoting Bangladesh's image abroad. As such, we urge upon you to support us in our endeavors to promote Cricket in the USA.

While we are preparing ourselves for the tournament, we wish to make a huge show on the ground in terms of our visibility as a vibrant nation. Let us take this opportunity to show up our strength through a colorful display of our presence on the day of the tournament. We would encourage everybody to put on colorful dresses (red/green saree, panjabee, Bangladesh Cricket jersey, as well as holding banners/flags) to inspire our Cricketers.

We are in the process of forming a team comprising of the regular and prominent players of our community in greater Washington area. If you have any queries as to how you could be a part of this initiative, please feel free to contact us.

Best Regards

Nirupam Dev Nath
