[chottala.com] Historic detail of Zia Assassination by ex D.C of CHITTAGONG [1 Attachment]

<*>[Attachment(s) from tariq matin included below]

Mr. Ziauddin M. Choudhury who is currently working at the World Bank in Washington D.C was the District Commissioner (D.C) of Chittagong during the assassination of late president Ziaur Rahman on May 30th, 1981. He saw Ziaur Rahman, General Manzur and other important figures from real close. The University Press Ltd., Dhaka recently published his book "Assassination of Ziaur Rahman and the Aftermath". There have been numerous accounts on the assassination and the aftermath by different people at different times.
The accounts of Mr.Ziauddin M. Choudhury, who personally received president Zia at the Chittagong airport the night before the assassination, are extremely credible. 21st February, 7th March, 26th March, 16th December, 15th August and May 30th (the day Zia was assassinated) are significant dates in the history of Bangladesh. I am confident the aforementioned book by Mr.Ziauddin Choudhury will be a great document in our quest to establish the truth about the past. History will not fail to give credit to the individuals who deserve it. On the hand, history will harshly expel those who through their evil and selfish designs harmed the country in the worst possible way from which Bangladesh has failed to recover until today. Here is a link to a review of the book by Mr. Ziauddin Choudhury, that came out on June 21st in the Daily Star:

[chottala.com] Bangladesh Army becoming a commercial enterprise !

Army becoming a commercial enterprise: Jalil
Thu, Jun 25th, 2009 8:58 pm BdST

Dhaka, June 25 (bdnews24.com)—Awami League general secretary Abdul Jalil told parliament Thursday that the Bangladesh Army was becoming a "commercial enterprise", and slated his own party for "stagnating".

Giving a speech on the proposed budget for 2009-10 fiscal, Jalil also demanded investigation of all unconstitutional actions of the previous military-installed caretaker government.

He came down hard on the military for its "commercial activities".

"I see that the military has been given the task of collecting tolls for the Bangabandhu bridge. We don't know under which terms and conditions they got the contract."

"There should be an international tender for such contract."

"Is the army a commercial enterprise? Why they were given charge to collect toll?" asked Jalil, a former commerce minister.

"We are allowing the army to set up banks, hotels? Are we relieving them of their main duties?" he questioned.

He urged all to be cautious so that no unconstitutional government could emerge again.

Jalil said there were dual governments during the past caretaker tenure: one was headed by chief adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed and another headed by army chief Gen Moeen U Ahmed.

"Fakhruddin Ahmed took charge of relief materials. At the same time, the army took charge of relief materials. Who authorised the army to be in charge of relief materials?"

"Government is the authority to collect and distribute relief materials," said Jalil.

"We have ratified their actions, but their unconstitutional moves must be investigated".

He said cadet colleges eat up a big chunk of the education budget while a significant portion of funds go to the combined military hospitals from the health allocation.

"I do not oppose giving military more budget allocations. But there should not be any hide and seek in this regard," he said.

Speaking of his own party, Jalil said the Awami League was in the doldrums

"The party, which led all democratic movements, has become stagnant. The party should be roused," he said.

He was also critical of the prime minister's advisers.

He demanded their removal from cabinet meetings since they had not sworn any oath of secrecy.

"The prime minister can appoint advisers. But they cannot sit at cabinet meetings. The ministers have sworn secrecy, but they have not."

Jalil accused unnamed advisers of hampering the work of the government.

"If they attemt to steer the cabinet, the proposed budget will not be implemented. Digital Bangladesh will never come true," said Jalil.

[chottala.com] Bangladesh Govt dismisses 7 army officers

Govt dismisses 7 army officers

The government has recently dismissed seven officers of the Bangladesh Army without showing any reasons.

The dismissed officers include a brigadier general, three lieutenant colonels, a major and two captains. Six of the seven were dismissed on June 7 and the other, the brigadier general, on June 23.

The six dismissed on June 7 were lieutenant colonels Shamsul Islam, Mahdi Nasrullah Shahir and Md Shafiul Haque Chowdury, major Mahsinul Karim, and captains AKM Annur Hossain and Habiba Islam.

The sources in the government told New Age on Tuesday the six officers were among those who had raised questions in a Dhaka cantonment durbar, attended by the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, on March 1, about the performances of the government in facing the February 25-26 rebellion in the Bangladesh Rifles headquarters in Dhaka.

The reason for dismissal of brigadier general Abdullahil Azmi could not be known immediately. He, however, happens to be son of former Jamaat-e-Islami amir Golam Azam.

Unhappy about the government's handling the soldiers' rebellion in the BDR headquarters in which 57 officers killed, the emotionally charged officers, now dismissed, asserted that so many officers would not have been killed if the government had opted for a military assault on the revolting BDR soldiers, instead of deciding a 'political negotiation' with the errant soldiers.

The previous chief of staff, General Moeen U Ahmed, who had reportedly approved the government idea of 'political negotiation', was present at the durbar, but did not take the responsibility before the wailing as well as agitated officers that day.

The general, on the other hand, was aware of the list of the officers who would speak to the prime minister during the durbar. A source close to a dismissed officer, talking with New Age, claimed that even it was General Moeen who suggested that a female officer should also be there to speak out and thus came the name of Captain Habiba Islam. Again, the officers lost their jobs unceremoniously when General Moeen was commanding the army. Moeen went into retirement on June 15.

General Moeen could not be contacted for comments.

Some of the dismissed officers had, however, complained to the prime minister, as was heard from the conversation released by some quarters on You Tube, the officers were being promoted in the army on political considerations under different political regimes and urged her to resume the practice of promoting them on the basis of their talent and competence.

There is a difference between Army officer and garments workers

That's right, Army Officers cant behave like roudy garments workers or labourers. They have to obey the rules and should be disciplined.

We never heard that, Army officers shouted ilike this against killing of any national leaders. What happened to their contitutional obligation then!!!What happened to their courage and moral obligation then!!!

Azmi should be sacked long ago

Azmi was sacked not because he is the son of Golam Azam but for distributing electronic leaflefts to agitate army officers. His sacking was long overdue.

Justice will be served to Hasina and her Gang...........

That is how Freedom fighter maj.Dalim ( Beer protik) was dismissed from Army, just because he raised his voice in front of mujib as protest of his wife's abuse by mujib's cadres.

It did not saved Mujib. Mujib did not served justice but in the middle of the night justice was served to Mujib.

samething will happen to Hasina.
