News | June 6, 2012, 8:11 amMurder of Muslims in Taungup due to Lack of Legal Protection
Taungup: The killing of ten Muslims in a mob attack on a bus in Taungup in southern Arakan State was the result of a lack of protection by law enforcement said a local resident who witnessed the attack.“If the army or police had controlled the mob, they would have been able to save the victims. They knew the situation well, but the did not do anything to control the mob or protect the victims. The attack did not happen instantly. They were just in the situation of pulling and pushing for a long time. As the authorities did not do anything to control the situation, the incident eventually happened, said the resident. He added that army and police personnel were just behind the mob while the attack was happening.“I don’t know how the problem would be tackled by the authorities. The police and the army were there when the mob was beating the victims, but they did not do anything to control the mob or protect the victims. The attack happened right in front of their eyes. So, it was just a matter that the law enforcers did not do what they should have done during the attack, he added.Another eyewitness, a woman from Taungup also confirmed that the police and soldiers were at the scene when the attack happened.“The policemen and soldiers were there on the spot when the attack was happening, but they did not prevent the attack and did not say anything to the youths to stop their attack on the victims. They were just watching the attack with their hands folded, said the woman.Residents said "local authorities were aware of the situation and had the means to prevent the attack. The mob was very noisy along the road as it followed the Roma Thitsar Bus that departed from its station in downtown Taungup carrying the victims. The mob was able to stop the bus outside of town because some of them had followed the bus on motorcycles" they added.According to an unconfirmed report, "The bus was said to have been driven into the compound of the immigration department on the road as the mob followed it, but responsible officials in the department forced the bus to back out, saying they could not take any responsibility because the bus was carrying Muslims."U Khin Hla, Secretary of the National League for Democracy in Taungup, told the VOA Burmese program that "the Muslims were killed due to the lack of law and order in his hometown."“I think such an incident happened due to the lack of law and order because it happened in broad daylight just around 4:30 pm, and it was also not just an incident in which a man hacked and killed another and ran away. On the contrary, I think the officials who are working for the rule of law and order in the country are very responsible for such an incident, said U Khin Hla.When contacted by Narinjara, Daw Saw Mra Razar Lunn, Chairperson of the Rakhine Women’s Union, she also said, “I think the lack of rule of law is to blame for [such violence]. The authorities are responsible to carry out the rule of law in the country, so the people, regardless if they are Buddhist or Muslim, are able to live together peacefully. Anyone who commits a crime action should have taken against them in accordance with the existing laws.Taungup is situated as the main gateway for travel to central Burma from Arakan State. The authorities are said to have sowed anti-Muslim sentiment among the people of the town in order to help prevent Muslim migration and settlement into central Burma from the region.

Without eye witnesses any truth can not be justified that Eye witnesses see with their own eyes. Listening and hearing witnesses are not correct witnesses according criminal law to proof the fact.. For this reason correct judgement can not be done depending on hearing witnesses or listening witnesses. For establishing the real truth and lawful judgement judges need to ask hearing witnesses to call into the court for eyes witnesses the person who told him that he saw with his own two eyes.. Other wise according to criminal law and justice of law asami will get doubt of benefit and will get free from aligation if judges follow the rules of law. --- On Sun, 24/6/12, Sonia Jahan <sonia_jahan@rocketmail.com> wrote:

www.ektara.infoto all, Greeting of Peace. Professor Abdul Mannan's article on Rohingya issue is a contemporary one and a historical fact. But this genocide and ethnic cleansing happening atleast for four hundred years.Rohingya's are not only Arab traders and Afghan and Moguls and Chittagonian(greater Arakan). They were indegenous local native as well.Mough;s (present day Rakhine)were mostly from Chittagong area driven by Shaesta Khan and his ancestor;s.Because Mough's were pirates and looters, and were raping and taking our people as slaves.I have spent last three and half years in Burma was volunteering for Asian Resource Foundation and for Islamic Development Bank project(first in Burma).I have visited many parts of the country and that includes Arakan too.I am a east Pakistan born(present Bangldesh)born American. As an American I did have some advantage to visit various restricted areas which otherwise restricted for Muslims of Burma.I did help burmese people as a whole regardless of their religion.I build the schools in hundred percent Budhist populated areas too(With IDB money).Population are poor and peaceful.Arakan is different than rest of the countries. It is the Burmese government engineered ethnic cleansing for sure.Muslims of Arakan can not move one village to another.Even they can not come to Buthidang proper from Maungdau rural for some medical emergencies. They have to bribe all the time.State occupied all of the Muslim own lands and generously distributed to Mough's.Muslims does not have jobs and they can not do business. Those are the facts.Last four hundred years Muslims are suffering there. So some Muslims in desperation became non muslims. Some collaborates with governments to oppress fellow Muslims in various ways and make quick money.Like many Muslims under occupation looses their morals in all over the world.Same happens in Arakan and Burma too.It is a defeated mentality of the Muslims. It happens in family too.I am a patriotic Bangladeshi. But after creation of Bangladesh we have become with the defeated mentality.Rapes in day lights are a rampant occurances in Bangladesh.Old days even Robbers/Dacoits did have some code of ethics. Now Robbers loots house wifes, daughters and rapes and kills their infant childs too(silence them for un interrupted raping).Punjabi's are not in Bangladesh. They are 1500 undred miles a part and in between a great friendly country name India. There is no justice in Bangladeshi Court system.Looks like Sheikh Abdur Rahman(who was executed during BNP government) and his followers targetted the Court houses for symbolic bombing did have a legitimate targett. So called Islamic political parties serious to become Minister instead of opposing oppression.Standing by Muzlums and have a striking force ready should be the job of Islamic politics.Same should be the job for all political parties.Corruption should be resisted at local level.Lip service and talking against corruption without action(Amol) could not produce any result. Same for Rohigya people. All those 40 years Burma never opened doors for Bangladesh for trade.Diplomacy of subservient Bangladeshi governments producing no result. Now is the time without delay to organise volunteer fighter for Freedom of Arakan.Than only Burma will be open upto China for Bangladesh. Thanks for your patience.
