What Mr. Dowllah forwarded is out and out narrow & henious form ofÂ
hindu communalism which is a phenomenon more appropriately known
as HINDUTVA ....There is no denying of the fact that menacing rise of
Hindutva fascist forces is undermining the relatively weak but sane secular
forces in Indian societry. The hindutva thrives on political opportunism,
& communalism vis-à -vis social backwardness that is very much prevalent
in India.....
Â
India is a land of 138,188,240 Muslims (13.4 % of it's total population according
to 2001 census] and majority of them are proud of being Indian citizens and
practice Islam freely without intimidation and live in a communally harmonious
atmosphere.. Free religious conversion from Hinduism to Islam is not very
uncommon in India.[the reverse is unthinkable in Pakistan or Bangladesh]

Each and every nation in the world has it's good, bad and ugly.
The rise of hundutva refects the menifestation of the UGLY side of
Indian society. The secular voices in India is fighting HINDUTVA menace
in every possible way ......Â
Â
Mixing up Hundutva with secularism actually helps Hindutva and other
communal forces in South Asia.
Â
FYI, Â
The word 'secular' continues to be misrepresented by many people in today's
Bangladesh. [see YouTube video:
বাংলাদেশ SECULARISM: Allama Sayeedi
]
Â
It is wrongly assumed by many that 'SECULAR' is opposite of 'RELIGIOUS'. However, if anything, the opposite of SECULAR is COMMUNAL, while the opposite of the word RELIGIOUS is ATHEIST. The word SECULARISM is not synonymous with ATHEISM.Â
Â
Above all, the  HINDUTVA IS COMMUNALISM NOT SECULARISM.

Note:
Â
Muslims constitute just 13.4% of India's population. All of them, except a tiny minirity of 2 percent,
are proud of being an Indian. These truths and much more come to fore in the CNN-IBN-Hindustan Times
State of the Nation survey, conducted by the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies.

Against popular belief, all but two per cent of Muslims are actually ‘proud’ of being an Indian. |

Only 13% Muslims feel that the Hindu-Muslim rift cannot be bridged while about the same number feel that it made no difference in the first place. |
