BCL men go on the rampage

VC held for 3 hrs, vehicles smashed

Bangladesh Chhatra League activists at Islamic University (IU) yesterday vandalised three university buses and confined the vice-chancellor to his office for three hours, demanding his removal immediately.

The activists of BCL, a pro-Awami League student wing, blocked the Kushtia-Khulna highway for three hours after midday. They also confined the pro-vice chancellor and vandalised his and the VC's offices in their presence.

The Islamic University Bangabandhu Parishad, a teacher front, also demanded removal of the VC M Alauddin and pro-VC Kamal Uddin.

The demand for their removal came three weeks into an academic stalemate following a syndicate meeting on September 7. At the meeting, 152 teachers and other staff were appointed against 76 advertised positions, said campus sources.

The BCL men reported massive irregularities in the recruitment process and demanded its cancellation."The VC appointed his daughter as a lecturer [at the applied chemistry department] and his son-in-law as the treasurer of the university," said Shamsuzzaman Tuhin, general secretary of BCL at the university.

Moreover, he added, at least 30 relatives of the VC and pro-VC got recruited in different posts. "But the VC told us he had appointed BCL men to the posts."Kushtia police rushed to the campus but it was only after the request of Bangabandhu Parishad's leaders that the BCL men lifted the blockade.

Asked about the recruitment of his daughter as a lecturer, the VC said the recruitment committee had selected her and the syndicate approved the selection."I tried to sit with the BCL leaders but they demanded at least 200 jobs for themselves. How can I meet this demand?" the VC told this correspondent.

[chottala.com] Awami League men in the Cox's Bazar Communal violence!

Awami League men in the Cox's Bazar Communal violence!
Abid Bahar

It was reported that the perpetrators that caused the communal violence in Ramu Cox's Bazar are from the ruling party Awami League. It is important that Hasina arrest the culprits from both Muslim and Buddhist sides. True, if in the USA, they can arrest the man who made the video insulting the Prophet, why Hasina can't arrest Uttom Kumar Barua at lease to find out his role in this affair. But Hasina wouldn't touch the provocateur because it is her vote bank and the perpetrators are the AL people. Hasina is expected to do nothing.

The description (in Bengali) below the picture says the procession that led the destruction of Buddhist properties in Ramu, Chittagong "was initiated by Bangladesh's ruling party's Awami Fishery League's sub district vice president Ansarul Haque Bhutto. The procession was led by Student League (also the ruling party's student) leader Hafiz Mohamed and his brother. There was also a call for strike by this group. (This is contrary to the previous claim that Rohingyas from Arakan were involved in this attack.). Yesterday, the Home Mister confirmed this to the BBC that Rohingya involvement was not the claim of the government. While Hasina, the loose mouth can blame anybody, " fortunately BNP probe team poised  to move to Cox's Bazar Thursday."

While we strongly condemn the recent violence against the Buddhist minority, it is important to note that lately there has been a growing number of Bangladeshi tribal Buddhists aligned with the Arakanese engaged in Islamphobia. Facebook is loaded with anti Muslim activities with Mogh and Chakma names.

Although not surfaced yet, due to the persecution of Muslims in Arakan, there seems to be an ever present uneasiness with the Muslim- Rakhine Buddhist in this region. Also lately, instead of joining with the world community condemning the Myanmar genocide of the Rohingya, Hasina government helped Myanmar by supporting Myanmar's anti Rohingya stand. In this crisis, Dipu Moni was acting as if she was the foreign minister of Myanmar. Dipu Moni's man, Bangladesh's ambassador in Myanmar is a Chakma (Anup Chakma) who also supported the Rakhine genocide of the Rohingya Muslim.

It is not cute to be the neighbor of a refugee producing country. In addition to the above tip of the iceberg, it is important to know that many of the officers in the Na Sa Ka, the violent Rakhine border security men were originally Bangladeshi Chakmas and Rakhine Moghs working for Burma. An unofficial estimate shows about 30 thousand of Bangladesh tribal migrants from Bangladesh work in Arakan as the Arakanese officials engaged to evict Rohingya Muslims. Aye Maung, the leader of the RNDP who masterminded the June Rohingya massacre was a Bangladeshi by birth and Aye Chan, the anti Rohingya's mother was a Bangladeshi Buddhist. He calls the Rohingya as the Bengali " Influx Viruses."
It is documented that the unrest in Chittagong Hill Tracts was also inspired by some innocent looking traveling political monks from Arakan. In the past Bangladesh government even detained some Arakanese traveling monks in Cox's Bazar carrying weapons. Arakanese armed separatist party called, the Arakan Liberation Party are deadly anti Muslim and supports the Rohingya extermination operates from Bandarbon district near Burma. They have an online newspaper and TV station operate from Dhaka Bangladesh called Narangera. I personally wish that Bangladeshi Buddhists should abstain themselves from Islamphobia hatred and the tribals whose ancestors originally arrived in Bangladesh from Arakan, should also stay neutral about the Rohingya Muslim extermination from Arakan.
It appears that this time, the violence in Cox's Bazar against the Bangladeshi Buddhist was by some unruly Awami Muslim folks. But in the absence of any concrete measures taken by the Myanmar government to recognize the Rohingya citizenship, the Arakanese racism problem against the Rohingya might eventually spill over to Bangladesh against its Buddhist population. This is exactly what Ban Ki Moon lately predicted and warned President Thein Sein.
All in all to have control over the rising trend of Muslim-Buddhist tension in the region, it is imperative for Bangladesh government to understand the roots of racism and the refugee production trends of the region. It is historically known that Rakhines are master manipulators. During the medieval period in alliance with the Portuguese they devastated Bengal through piracy. It seems that this time Rakhines have hijacked the Burmese opinion against the Rohingya. The great historian Alamgir Serajuddin expresses rather bluntly the reasons behind the Arakan problem by saying, "The Arakanese [Rakhines] were a daring and turbulent people, a terror at once to themselves and to their neighbors. They fought among themselves and changed masters at will. Peace at home under a strong ruler signaled danger for neighbors." If Bangladesh fails to understand the Rakhine leadership's goal for a future Rakhine independent country with Chittagong Hill Tracts included, and Bangladesh fails to understand how to contain the predatory Rakhine racism in Arakan, its spill over in Bangladesh will be the price for its naivety and the price for its silence!
