[chottala.com] A few important issues for our deep thinking .......

Mr. Izhar Ahmed (AKA S. Ayubi)

The question of trials of the Al-bodori death squad members and the
organizers of killing missions became a issue has due to public demand
before the last election .....it is an election mandate for BAL
.....and there is no statute of limitations  on the trial of the killers and their
leaders ....

The killer Jamaatis acted in their killing missions not for any personal
reason but with  Political objectives ..... even during the last weeks
of the war in 1971 when the Jamaat (vis-a-vis it's Al-Bodor wing)
realized that deafeat was certain, they continued killing the innocent
civilians and Bangalee intelectuals with a long term political
objective.....

Call it "digg out murky past ", call it political, call moral or call it
national conscience the trial of the Al-Bodor Death Squad members
and it's organizers is a  must ......

By your assertion "dig out the murky past", you are verily admitting
that the Jamaat's 1971-role was crimnal and murky .... you just
don't want their trial you want to keep the "murky past". hidden under
the rugs ....

In any case, as we all know :
"The past is never dead. It's not even past."   ....
The killers and the families of the victims are still alive
right here in Bangladesh ......

As a silent onlooker of contemporay event, I  can only
say that history has a very weird way of correcting itself ...
and that is what we see now... tomorrow will be a better
day for all of us ....

Syed Aslam

PS:The issue is trial of the killers not the exactly same
trial of the traitors  ......and keep them separated ......

Dear All

1. Jamaate Islami was the only political party in 1971 whose central
committe [Majlis-i-Shura] under the leadership of Gholam Azam, decided to organize a Killing squads viz. Al-Bodor Bahini.  [Jamaat's Golam Azam, Nizami, Mujahid  gang was at the helm of violent Death Squad & collaborators  that was in  "Active Duly" in the killing fields of 1971 Bangladesh ....].  Crimes against our nation and crimes agaist humanity were committed by Jamaat in the name of
religion.

The Muslim League, Nezame Islami and  few other splinter groups  supported the integrity of Pakistan but didn't organize any armed Death Squad with a  central party decision [although some of their members joined the razaker forces].

In 1971 Jamaate Islami was the only political group that had an killer wing Al-bodor and was engagged in killing of innocent civillians and various other crimes against humanity and war crimes in 1971.

Thus, by default, Jamaate Islami became the only political group that was engaged in criminal violence and accessory to the genocides of 1971.
Jamaate Islami is the Party of the Traitors (Gadders)... . and there
is no such thing as a Reformed Traitor .....Once a Gaddar, always
a Gaddar ......

2. The current govermnent  was duly elected through a democratic
process and has the legitimate right to set up it's priorities and
course of actions : That is the law of the land.....

The current government is a  government of the majority
and the majority must be granted ..... that is way our system works .... [obviously, the War Criminals will oppose the trial in their attempts to evade Justice by fair means or faul ....... ]

3. Putting signature in favor of the constitution or abstaining from
putting the signature on the constitution is a (and was a)  part of the
due process and a constitutional right of the parliament/constitu tional  assembly member.  If Suronjit had denied putting his signature on the original 1972 constitution, how does that make him a criminal and under what law, Mr. Mokhter Ahmed?

You really sound silly when you say Suronjit "is great criminal and his  crime against the constitution is ever greater than anyone. He should be tried for that."...

Your innuendo  "Why Suronjet Sen was made the co-chair of the
constitution review committee?" is pure Nonsense & Grossly Fallacious and quite unbecoming for an academician

Please don't think that we Bangladeshis are fools and you can create
murky waters by throwing these kinds of falacious logic ......

BTW, do you personally approve the spirit of 1972 Bangladesh
Constitution?

And since when you have become such an over-zealous-fan
[a zealot] of Bongobondhu that  you made you think,
any difference of opinion with Sheikh Mujib is a criminal
offence that demands capital punishment? (message #24255)

Do you really believe that? Or that is another facet of Jamaati
opportunism?

4. I am little skeptic about the idea of banning any political party just
based on it's ideology per se. However, all political parties must respect  the constitution and operate within the bounds of the constitution.
The traitors and  collaborators should not get any leeway in the name of democracy.

No one should be allowed to misuse religion and "religion-trading"
i.e use religion to mislead ordinary masses should not be permitted... ..

Any political party that has historical record of collaborating with the
Yahia-Tikka regime and was actively engaged in aiding and abetting the occupation regime as party and has organized armed Death Squads like Al-Bodor Bahini should not be allowed to function.

In Europe, Nazi Party is completely abolished and declared to
be illegal. This ban has remains in place in Germany and many
other European countries to the present day.

The Jamaate Islami's Anti-Bangladesh role and the
killing missions by it's armed Gestapo wing Al-Bodor Death
Squads makes this particular party nazi-equivalent in the
context of Bangladesh and our history .....

The operation of Jamaate Islami should be banned not
because it has a religious lebash, but for Jamaat's  role in war
crimes, crimes against Bangladesh, crimes against humanity
including aiding and abetting genocides and greatest mass
rapes in human history.....

5. Why only "famous and seasoned politicians earlier" has to be
ministers ..." ?

As a matter of fact the ruling parties should always include
new faces in the cabinet which, in essence,  may help to develop
that party's  future leaderships. ....

Of course, the a minister must be competent to do his/her job,
else the party in power will suffer in the long run...

In a parliamentary democracy the selection of cabinet members
is a complex balancing act ....[region, gender, expertise,
popularity within the party, loyality etc. ...]

Posing a question like "Does not it imply that they were picked up
by a third party for their interests?" is utterly motivated and
perhaps with insidious intents .....

Dear brothers and sisters!

We should think of the following issue before making any post in this popular blog:

1.      Is war crime a sole responsibility of a particular political party? Are not there any war criminals in Awami League? I know many are there and in other political parties. Why then the sole target is a particular political party?

2.      There is no consensus in Bangladesh about this trial. That particular party does have near about one crore vote bank, according to the estimate of EC. We voted 14 mohajot, which does not mean that we gave it a blank cheque to do anything. Before taking such a large-scale job, the govt. should seek referendum. A few papers and TV channels are not the sole standard to gauge people's feeling and perception in this case.

3.      Why Suronjet Sen was made the co-chair of the constitution review committee? He was the man who denied putting his signature on the original 1972 constitution despite being repeatedly asked by Bangobondhu and Bangobondhu's signature there. He is great criminal and his crime against the constitution is ever greater than anyone. He should be tried for that.

4.      Why should we allow the banning of any political party? Is politics a prerogative of any class? Is it banned in our model (?) countries like India and the West? In India many religion-based political parties are working like Shib Sena, BJP and hundred others. Even Christian Democratic Party (a religion-based party) is in power in Germany.

5.   Who are the ministers ruling Bangladesh now? Were they any famous and seasoned politicians earlier? Are they capable to defend the dignity of our motherland? Why this peculiar pick-up, the boneless people who even do not know the political decorum? Who were behind this choice? Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister? I think, none will believe it that she would dare to deny other seasoned politicians any space in her cabinet. Does not it imply that they were picked up by a third party for their interests?

I think many other issues we do have in our front now. We should concentrate on those rather than being exploited by the interests of the political parties.

As you read this email, there are enormous atrocities and human rights violations going on in Bangladesh.  The country's identity as a democratic and moderate Islamic country is at stake today.  The country has been turned into a police state where ordinary citizens are denied their basic rights.  It is our duty to rise up and speak in full voice against these atrocities and heinous crimes.  To this end we have taken a project to inform and urge President Obama and congress to work with the State Department to device policies to bring an end to these crimes and hold current Awami League government accountable.  Our first project is to send at least 5000 email to our President Obama, senators, and congressman.

We have setup a website where you, your friends, and family members can go and send emails to these public officials.  It is very simple and will only take two minutes of your time.  Please follow the steps below to send letters to your elected representatives:

  1. Enter your zip code located at the bottom of the page and click on 'Submit Zip Code' button.
  2. Below the letter section, enter your title, first and last name, mailing address and email address.  (we encourage you not to edit the content of the letter)
  3. Click on Preview Letters.
  4. In the next page, click on 'Send Email' button on the left side of the page.  Please ignore the button n the right as you will have to pay if you click on that button.
PLEASE USE CORRECT MAILING AND EMAIL ADDRESS.  ALSO DO NOT SEND EMAILS WITH GHOST (VAGUE) NAMES.

By taking the five steps above, you have taken an important step to speak against human rights violations in Bangladesh.  Please don't just keep it to yourself, spread the word and encourage and help your friends and family members to do the same.

We understand that many people in your areas might not have access to a computer or internet.  We will setup booths in your localities where you can go and our volunteers will help you send emails.
Also, for you convenience we have setup national hotlines where you can call in, our volunteers will on standby to help you.  If you need assistance, please call the following numbers:

(646) 504-4687

(703) 791-1613

(646) 504-3181

Let us stand up along the oppressed people of Bangladesh and bring an end to the atrocities taking place there.
Sincerely,

Committee for "Stop Human Rights Violations in Bangladesh"

[chottala.com] Obama backs NY 'Ground Zero mosque': A Principled Stand of US President

A Principled Stand of US President: And the princile is Seperation of State & Religion with freedom to practice

Obama backs NY 'Ground Zero mosque': A Principled Stand of US President

US President Barack Obama has staunchly defended  plan to build a mosque near Ground Zero in New York.Opponents have protested against the construction of an Islamic cultural centre and mosque several hundred feet away from the site of the Twin Towers. Mr Obama acknowledged "sensitivities" surround the 9/11 site, but said Muslims have the same right to practice their religion "as anyone else"."Our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakeable," Mr Obama said.Since a New York developer announced plans to build a 13-storey Islamic community centre and mosque about two blocks from the former World Trade Center site, prominent Republican politicians and a host of conservative pundits have attacked the project. Some relatives of people killed in the terror attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001 are also opposed to the plan.In a speech at a White House dinner celebrating Ramadan, the Muslim holy month, Mr Obama waded into the row, saying:"We must all recognise and respect the sensitivities surrounding the development of lower Manhattan, Ground Zero is, indeed, hallowed ground. But let me be clear, as a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country."That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community centre on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances. This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakeable. The principle that people of all faiths are welcome in this country, and will not be treated differently by their government, is essential to who we are.He told the group of US Congressmen, government officials and foreign dignitaries that America's tradition of religious tolerance distinguishes it from "our enemies"."al-Qaeda's cause is not Islam," he said, "it is a gross distortion of Islam".Until now Mr Obama had not commented on the mosque row, with the White House saying that the matter was a local issue. In voicing his support for the right to build the centre, Mr Obama joins New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who had been the only prominent politician to endorse it. Opponents of the building project have called for investigations into its backers and financing. In New York, opponents sought unsuccessfully to have the building currently at the mosque site granted landmark protection status, in an effort to hinder development.Former US House of Representatives speaker Newt Gingrich dubbed the plan an "assertion of Islamist triumphalism" and has denounced it in speeches.Former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin wrote that "to build a mosque at Ground Zero is a stab in the heart of the families of the innocent victims of those horrific attacks".

The opposition to the project is totally senseless. NewYork city has a large Muslim population. It does not have a large Masjid ( Mosque). The  9/11 terror attack led to death of not only Christians but also many Muslims. We can not understand the anti – Islamic attitude of some senior republican leaders though we understand the attitude of conservative Islamphobes. In any case we deeply appreciate the speech and view of US President.Principle should be above other things for all, not only US.He has rightly said that Al-Qaeda is not Islam.
