Re: [notun_bangladesh] Re: FW: [ALOCHONA] Re: [chottala.com] Ph.D.

Dear readers:

Hasina supporters fail to understand that she is not as great to be awarded 9 or 11 honarary Ph.Ds. Surely she sent her agents to fill out the necessary form, propose her name and as the Prime Minister or a former Prime Minister of even a poor country they awarded her those honary awards.
The point is, she had to travel those places to receive those awards. She was not that rich when she began politics in Bngladesh or not a Prime Minister of a rich country to spend that much money to simply collect those awards.
Surprisingly no one yet awarded any award to her for calling that many nationwide strikes and to cause anarchy that brough the military backed care-taker government.

Re: [chottala.com] Who did the comparison ? [PhD/ Honorary Doctorate issue]

wrt:

Mr. Faruque Alamgir

Your parochial  rhetoric and slogan mongering has  not proven anything beyond
focusing your own die-hard anti-BAList position and may have given some complacences
to your fellow Mutual Admiration Club [MAC] members ....

Where did you see any comparison in my post?

I had very clearly said that, it was on a point of order.....
Hope, you understand that ?

My post nullifies abrupt statement by Mr. Salauddin Ayubi who said
" ...... these leaders were not conferred with doctorates? ".

[He is the one who has brought Nelson Mandela, Mohathir Mohammed
et. el. out of context and thereby perpetuated a hidden comparison through
his oblique allusion]

You have every right to stand by your cohort but distorting my
point to support your friend is totally unwarranted.

Tell your copy-cat friend to do some homeworks and have a little reality
check before trying to fodge his position through his stray comments.

Thanks for expressing your reactions, anyway.

BTW, understanding the contemporary history is a difficult matter, it is
not just one of your holiday rhetorics or sloganeering  .....!

[chottala.com] BSF on high alert on Bangla border - Assam Tribune

BSF on high alert on Bangla border
R Dutta Choudhury
GUWAHATI, Aug 11 – All the troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) posted along the Assam-Bangladesh border have been put on high alert to prevent anyone including anti-India forces from entering the country in the run up to the Independence Day celebrations. Talking to The Assam Tribune, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of BSF, Guwahati, JC Pandey said that all the troops are maintaining strict vigil along the international border round the clock and efforts are also on to improve intelligence collection by even involving local population. He said that in view of the ensuing Independence Day celebrations, even the troops on training have been pressed into duty to ensure proper vigil along the international border. He pointed out that normally one company of each of the battalions is on training, but in view of the threat perception, even those on training are engaged in maintaining strict vigil along the border.

The DIG said that the border guarding force has been provided with modern gadgets including hand-held thermal imagers, surveillance radars, night vision binoculars etc to improve vigil along the international border. He said that the new gadgets worked as force

multipliers and improved the functioning of the BSF personnel manning the international border.

It may be mentioned here that the border fencing erected along the international border in Dhubri district in the first phase became almost redundant as it was constructed at a much lower height than the roads. The fencing is now being uprooted to erect a new one on higher ground and two Central Government agencies, NBCC and NPCC, have been entrusted with the task of carrying out the job in a stretch of 76 kilometers. The DIG expressed the view that the quality of the new fencing, erected along the border road, would be much better than the previous one and the Government has also engaged two organizations for "third-party inspection" of the quality of the job.

Replying to a question on whether uprooting of the old fencing would create problems for the BSF, Pandey said that extra vigil round the clock is being maintained in the portions where the fencing is uprooted. He pointed out that the entire fencing is not uprooted at one go and "we take adequate care to man the gaps." He said that vulnerable stretches along the border have been identified and extra precautionary measures have been taken.

On the riverine international border, the DIG said that in addition to its own boats, the BSF has hired engine-fitted boats available locally to improve vigilance, while, permanent posts of the BSF have been put up in the chars along the border. He revealed that from time to time, the BSF posts in the chars are to be evacuated because of severe erosion, but fortunately, till date this year, no camp has been shifted. However, the issue of bringing in floating border outposts to the area to improve vigil along the international riverine border has not yet been resolved and the Bangladesh Government has not yet granted permission to bring in the floating BOPs through its territory.

Meanwhile, the DIG said that the improved surveillance along the border in Dhubri sector resulted in increase of seizures of smuggled items and within this year, the BSF personnel managed to seize goods worth more than Rs 6.30 crore. He said that the goods smuggled out of the country to Bangladesh include cattle, rice and other food grains , ganja etc, while, ready- made cloths are being smuggled into India. At one point of time, huge quantities of salt used to be smuggled out of India but now the main problem is smuggling of cattle.

[chottala.com] Pakistan's ISI promoting TV channel in Bangladesh

Pakistan's ISI promoting TV channel in Bangladesh

The Crickton write up on the Global Geopolitics Network leaves no doubt whatsoever that it is all an ISI sponsored and managed operation. When Salauddin was jailed, he decided to spite at the army chief Gen Moen.

Pakistan''s ISI is setting up a TV channel in Bangladesh as a part of its war over airwaves in the region, says the US based Global Geopolitics Network.

Pakistan''s state broadcaster PTV is also reported to have intensified its anti-India propaganda in the wake of the unrest in Jammu and Kashmir over the Amarnath Shrine forest land transfer issue. On an average, at least two hours of anti-Indian propaganda is aired by PTV.

According to the network, Bangladesh''s envoy to Pakistan, Yasmeen Murshed, has been roped in as the "face" of the venture after it faced political, security and regulatory hurdles, according to James Crickton, who authored the five-page report titled "War over air waves in Bangladesh".

The channel, CSB (Chrono Satellite Broadcast) News, had a short run last year itself but was "closed down" after the authorities felt the channel was trying to give a "fillip" to the student unrest in the Dhaka and Rajshahi University campuses, the author said based on communications he had been "privileged to access and study"

The ISI through its Dubai links roped in a Bangladesh businessman-politician Salauddin Qader Chowdhury to start the channel way back in 2006 but he was jailed after the army backed caretaker government came to office and started a massive anti-corruption drive.

Salauddin was a key minister in the Khaleda Zia''s BNP led government. His son, Fayyaz, who has business interests in Dhaka, Hong Kong and Dubai stepped in to run the show but found the going tough, forcing the ISI to bring in the Bangladesh envoy in Islamabad as a partner in the venture, James Crickton writes.

The very structure of the company created to run the channel is also a give away, says the report.

The MOU that had stitched the deal in Islamabad in June 2006, puts the Dubai end under the aegis of an off-shore shell company (started with UK pounds 1900). It gives a 50 per cent share to Phoenix floated by Dubai based Pakistani, who coordinated with the Fayyaz family, and offers 33.33 per cent equity to Quintina Holdings, a Hong Kong based enterprise of Fayyaz. It fixes authorized capital at 50 million Arab Emirate Dirhams and paid up capital at 29 million Arab Emirate Dirhams.

After Yasmeen Murshed became a partner, her son was given the front end of channel while Fayyaz retained control over backend operations, "With her (ambassador Yasmeen) involvement, they (Salauddin and son Fayyaz) hoped to have the decks cleared as their sources winked at their new plan even when it was on the drawing board", according to the report which profusely quotes from various sources on the complex web Pakistan agency has put in place to hoodwink the Bangladeshi regime..It adds that Yasmeen Murshed role is an "internal" arrangement and is "absolutely confidential".

"When we sign over share transfer forms to Yasmeen, she signs over share transfer forms to us at the same time. Whenever we want we can submit the share transfer forms signed by her to take back the shares", Fayyaz told his Pakistani interlocutors, and went on to say, "A final agreement with her is that because she is not actually owning the company (since she is already signing away her share transfers to us), she is not investing any funds to run the company. Funds will be arranged by us and will be invested through her. Further more, she will be paid yearly sum of $ 50,000 for her services of being our face and maintaining a basic management on our behalf".

The Crickton write up on the Global Geopolitics Network leaves no doubt whatsoever that it is all an ISI sponsored and managed operation. When Salauddin was jailed, he decided to spite at the army chief Gen Moen.

And so he had sent a message through his son to his "handlers" and it read: "Please do not allow the Chief Moen to visit your side. The message must be given loud and clear to the chief".

It is not clear to what extent the message influenced Islamabad but the fact of the matter is B"Desh army chief has not visited Pakistan so far though he had visited Delhi and Kolkata

[chottala.com] Ways beyond politics exist to serve country: Marina Mahathir

Ways beyond politics exist to serve country: Mahathir
Mon, Aug 11th, 2008 8:06 pm BdST

Dhaka, Aug 11 (bdnews24.com)—Marina Mahathir, human-rights activist and daughter of Malaysia's former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, said Monday that she was not tempted to follow in her father's footsteps and go into politics.

"I do not think politics is the only way to do things for your country," she said in a press conference at the Daily Amader Shomoy office.

She nevertheless portrayed herself as a 'strong observer' of Malaysian politics.

Mahathir, who is also a journalist, arrived in Dhaka on Sunday to attend a conference on media and gender equity organised by Bangladesh Centre for Development, Journalism and Communication in collaboration with UNAIDS and the Asian University for Women.

She also met foreign adviser Ifthekhar Ahmed Chowdhury before paying a visit to the National Press Club on Monday.

Mahathir, best known for her work in support of HIV/AIDS awareness, is also scheduled to visit health, education and microcredit projects run by Grameen Bank and BRAC during her six-day stay.

Speaking on HIV/AIDS, she told the press it is quite difficult to run such campaigns in a Muslim country.

"We had to formulate a new 'Muslim Approach' in Malaysia," she said, stressing the importance of involving religious leaders in campaigns on such sensitive issues.

Emphasising women's empowerment as the key tool for development, she said it was a 'basic essential' for society as there is no other way to protect women's rights.

Defining 'freedom of women', Mahathir said to her it meant a woman being able to make her own choices. "Not someone else makes the choice for a woman."

On the current state of Malaysian politics, she said people were not satisfied with the government which has been reflected in the results of the last polls.

"It has never happened in my country that the five states are ruled by different governments other than the federal one," she added.

The daughter of the former Malaysian premier also said she thought people were a bit confused with the current government as her country had the same government for almost 50 years.

Mahathir's programmes, aired on Malaysian Television, have earned national and international awards since 2000. She is also one of the most influential bloggers in Malaysia.

Re: [notun_bangladesh] Re: FW: [ALOCHONA] Re: [chottala.com] Ph.D.

Friends

Comparing erudite,prudent,patriot,dignified and successful statesman
like Mohathir Mohammed & Nelson Mendela with
rough, indecent, incapable, rude, corrupt Hasina is nothing but tantamount
to insult the mentioned world leaders.

That reminds the popular saying " Kothai Agartola kothai
chowkirtola".People should stop being blind to the effect to lose ones
own entity.
