Re: [chottala.com] Obituary: Humayan Ahamed lives in the Rising Red and Green Star Studded flag

Humayan Ahamed, one of the Greatest Heroes of Bangladesh: The Why and How?
Abid Bahar

Leaving aside his family life as something personal, I consider Humayan Ahamed as one of the greatest heroes of Bangladesh for several reasons:

(1) Humayan Ahamed successfully defined Bangladesh and made the stories of Bangladesh interesting to the Bangladeshis as Tagore did it primarily for India and for the others. After Humayan Ahamed we will begin to see that Dhaka is no more the fools capital because it makes sense. The other contemporary figures that defined Bangladesh and brought the soul of Bangladesh civilization are Dr, Yonus and Sir Abid Hasan.

(2) Despite the brutal killing of his father by the Pakistani army, Humayan Ahamed didn't lose sight of the culture of Bangladesh deeply rooted in the Hindu-Muslim and Buddhist faith. In the name 1971 liberation war, he didn't recommend for a crusade against Islam as was started by the vulgar mouth Humayan Azad or porno writer Taslima Nasrin and their likes for the crime of the Yahya Khan gang of drunken Generals and their local razakars pretending like the defenders of Islam. Compared to the the unpolished, Humayan Ahamed only said it in the voice of an innocent bird " Tui Razakar." This for sure elated the dada lover crusaders but he didn't cross the limit to join the anti Muslim extremists in Bangladesh. This sobriety and thoughtfulness makes him a true artist and and a rebel against extremism.

(3)  I myself as a former freedom fighter who narrowly escaped death in the hand of the razakars, sometime,  I question myself, how would I have reacted to a situation if my father was killed by the Pakistani army. It was possible, because my father was an Awami Leaguer for life. I think my reaction to that would have been similar to Humayan's younger brother Jaffor Iqbal. I would have continued to be an atheist. I would still be with the Moni Singh gang of India-lovers. In this respect, I see Humayan Ahmed was a better human being than many of us.

(4) I believe that many of the die heart Awami BKSALITES and India-lovers that I know had directly suffered in the hand of the Pakistani army and the razakars. I don't blame them for their frustration but I blame their failure to distinguish between Pakistani Generals' and the razakar's fundamentalist Islam as different from the Sufi based Islam of East Bengal now Bangladesh.

(5)  Like Mujib who fought against Pakistan for Bangladesh, still called himself a Bengali, so did Bhasani, But Bhasani, observing the worst  oppression by India, said "Freedom Struggle continues." Similarly, when Humayan Ahamed said, " Tui razakar"about the fundamentalist Muslims, it made sense. But in saying that he didn't put himself as one in the rank of Humayan Azad or Taslima Nasrin who sold their body and soul to the neighbor/ aggressor makes him as one of the most thoughtful and the greatest.

In many ways Humayan Ahamed the great, seems to bring home the soul of Bangladesh through his writings about Bangladeshi village life, the life of the middle class people and their problems. His was perhaps in the nature of doing us a favor in the practice of "Knowing thyselves," perhaps even unconsciously, teaching us us the tricks to help in the release of the Moina Pakhi (the Bangladeshi soul) that after 1971 remained in the captivity of the India lovers' beloved Calcutta dadas during the BKSAL rule and intermittently afterwards.

God bless Humayan Ahamed, the great one in his eternal rest!

Obituary: Humayan Ahamed lives in the Rising Red and Green Star Studded flag

Abid Bahar

Humayan Azad died but he will live in the heart of Bangladeshis for years to come as a national icon. Bangladesh already has it homegrown Dr. Mohamed Yonus, Sir Abed Hasan and now Humayan Ahamed. They are the product of the pure Delta country Bangladesh. Remembering those hero's names, a patriot's heart illuminates with "Polasher Roktho."  When Bangladeshis think about them, they glow in the dark sky, wrapped in green and red rising star studded flag. Humayan Ahameds are made of star dusts who never die but some jealous political minds feel pity and sweat believing that nothing is glorious until their foreign masters approve Bangladesh's ever glorious existence as perfect.

How many pages have the Indians (politicians, writers, translators,
journos, campaigners, etc.) written about Taslima Nasreen? Yes, reams
and tons full of paper! They campaigned worldwide, including
electronic media. Why???

Will the lackeys of India in Bangladesh wake up? No, a great number of
them know that they are lackeys! The situation is something like,
metaphorically that is: if India makes a profit of Tk 100 by smuggling
Phensidyl, then they pocket Tk 70 and nurture their lackeys in BD by
Tk 30. People say in Bangla, 'machher tele machh bhaja!' (to fry the
fish with the fat of the fish!). And these lackeys know that!!

The political, military, economic, cultural and other lackeys of India
in Bangladesh must be defeated. And they certainly will be defeated!!
