[chottala.com] Sajib Wazed Joy: newly Harvard graduate, really??

Aslam et el;

Thanks for invigorating information, as always, though we spat, I enjoy your mail -:)

Dr Ali, with due respect of your profusely self-advertisement (though unwanted, it shows your enigma in debt!), you failed miserable to take note on the topic. Albeit not I am jealous of Sajib Wajed Joy, rather I take great 'joy' for his success. No, I am not comparing myself to Sajib, neither I envy your self-adornment, let others judge you, your comments show that your education has failed your consciousness! Let's rise above partisanship, shall we?

Here are few more nuggets about Harvard Masters in Public Administration program, as Aslam noted, it's a relatively new program with only 55 students. it is not Harvard's signature program. There is no requirement for GRE, only TOEFL score needed, but that alone also exempted for mid-career program.

Take a look at the student profile, it will give you some feeling:
http://www.hks.harvard.edu/degrees/masters/mpa-id/student-profiles

Here are the admission requirements:

Joy has cleary taken the lead from his arch-rival Tareq Rahman. His admission in the Mid Career Masters in Public Adiministration program at Harvard puts him in a different league to the naive Bangladeshis.

A quick glance at the program brochure shows the degree is nothing more than a money making scam of Harvard. It is the only program at Kennedy school that does NOT require a Bachelors or even a High School degree to apply and obviously no GRE or GMAT requirements either.

The only thing that is required is $74K to study with old hags (average student age 38 with the oldest guy last year at 70).

Joy again has dropped the "Mid Career" part while advertising his new found glory, just as in the past he dropped "Arlington" from University of Texas while mentioning is bachelors degree."

So Dr Mohsin Ali, if you can provide 74,000$ to your kids, they can be same 'brilliant student' as Sajib Wajed Joy! Yes, in America, money can buy you a degree! That does not mean, all degrees are 'for sell'.

Dr. Mohsin Ali

I would not agree with your statement that :
"Sajib Wazed Joy is a brilliant student,  "

He was just a mediocre [pronunciation  ], student not ever
a summa cum laude  graduate.

Sajib Wajed Joy tried to get a Masters degree
when he first came to USA after his BS from India.
Because of his poor performance he was awarded
second Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering
at UT, Arlington.

This so-called brilliant Saib Wajed Joy's admission to
Harvard KSG is also very questionable. If he was such
a "brilliant student", why he didn't go to Harvard
Business School (MBA) or Havard Law School (JD)
which were very compititive?

He could have gone for Masters/PhD in Computer
Science/Engineering at Harvard that would have been
consistent with his previous academic training.

Instead, he chose KSG for MPA under Mason
program which is not at all compititive or as prestigious.
other Harvard Schools.and designed for routine bureaucrats
not for brilliant scholars.
Do you know what was Sajeeb Wajed Joy's test
score in GRE?

Sajeeb Wajed Joy's  financial support while at
KSG is unexplainable. ....The cost of education
at KSG for student only is approximately,
Total (Direct and Indirect Costs)
 $74,360
which rises to approximately $90,000 dollars for a student with
two dependents as in Joy's case.

Do you really know how did Mr.Joy support his education
at Harvard and maintained his family while there?

Did he receive scholarships, if so on what basis and
from whom?
There are many more unanwered questions regarding
his stay at KSG ......even many more on his life-style!! !!.
[Why don't you request Joy to present a full disclosure
of his finances and sources of income during last ten years.
to the people of Bangladesh to prove himself transparent. ]

I really felt awkward when he himself publicly bragged in
an open forum: & arrogantly declared:
"I've a masters degree in Public Administration from
Harvard University".
It did not prove any point, but only proved his own inept
immaturity, dwarf mind and shallow understanding of the
sociopolitical processes in Bangladesh ....

I honestly think that  Sajib Wajed Joy should keep a low
profile instead of showing arrogant boasting about himself.

If he keeps on showing off, he may endup being a
hole-digger in the Awami Boat .... and  responsible
for it's eventual sinking [khuda nakhsta]!!!!

Mohsin Bhai, no offence intended, just take it easy !

Thanks

Syed Aslam

Mr. Enayet Ullah,

Why are you scrutinizing Sajib Wazed Joy's academic achievements? How much education do you have to criticize a Master Degree Program of John F. Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University? Joy was born in a highly educated family. His father Dr. Wazed Mia earned his Ph.D. more than 40 years ago when there were not many Ph. D. degree holders available in the then East Pakistan. ARE YOU JEALOUS?

I studies in the Universities in America for about 7 years and I earned my Masters and Ph.D. degrees in America. My 4 children were born in America and 2 of them are now studying at the Universities in America. I have been working with the New York State Education Department on contract basis through my organization (BAARNY - Bangladesh American Association for Rehabilitation in New York, Inc) for the students with disabilities since 1998 (11 years). My wife has also been working in the project of educating mentally retarded people under the Mental Health Department of the New York State for the past 17 years. So, we know the Education System of America from Pre-K to Ph.D levels very well.

YOU CANNOT BUY EDUCATION AND UNIVERSITY DEGREE IN AMERICA.

Please have some respect in the Education System of America.

Sajib Wazed Joy is a brilliant student, well spoken and a gentle young man.

Please do not question about his education and his academic achievements. He has earned his degrees in America by studying hard, not by money or through political pressure or by copying books/notes. You may not respect him because of your political vindictiveness, but do not disrespect his education.

Thank you.

Mr. Enayet Ullah

Your comment is a total distortion of the fact.
Harvard does not have any correspondence
courses or degree available  ... In order to
get a degree from Harvard one has to go
through a prescribed program and maintain
the required standard ..... there are no "may",
"ifs" or "buts"....

Harvard education is costly,but only
"enough money" can not bestow a Harvard
Masters degree  ..... one has to pass
the exams and fulfill the requirements for the
degree.

As a matter of fact, Sonia Gandhi's son Rahul
Gandhi attended Harvard but dropped out in
1993 failing receive the undergraduate degree.

Mr. Enayet Ullah,  please be credible and base your
comment on fact not on ficticious "may be"s  ...

BTW, Hasina Sheikh does not have a single PhD ,,,
she holds a B.A. (hons) degree from prestigious
Dhaka university in Bangladesh.

Sajib Wajed Joy's father Wajed Miah was a world-class
physicist and has a PhD degree in physics.
Sajib is a triple major in Physics, Mathematics and
Computer Science from St. Joseph's College and
has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering
from University of Texas in Arlington and finally
earned a Masters degree in Public Administration
from  Kennedy School of Government [2008].

Whereas, our great madam Khaleda Zia is a
Matric-fail Soshikkito lady ... her sons, Koko
and Tarek's academic backgrounds are
big question marks .....(?????? ????????) .

FYI,
The organizers at the seminar sponsored by
Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced
International Studies and US Bangladesh Business
Advisory Council in Washington.describe d
Sajib Wajed as "an advisor to Her Excellency
Sheikh Hasina". not as an official Advisor of the
Prime Minister of Bangladesh as you have said.

Thanks for expressing your insidious interests and
conspicuous comments.

Well, if you have enough money, one can get a Masters degree from Harvard, there are various correspondence courses available. Harvard is a well-known famous educational institute, but, not all Harvard graduate bestow the same quality!

Mr Sajib Wajed Jr, like his mother Seikh Hasina with 10 Phd, may well obtained his degree in a similar manner! It does not make him any qualified to be an Advisor of the Prime Minister. Moreover, Sajib has no knowledge about Bangladesh, he has not lived in Bangladesh for long time. I thought Awami League will rule differently this time, they will abandon the politics of hate and politics of heredity! Apparently, they are cajouling with both symptomps!

It's just sheer conspicuous!

Hasina's son defends 'controversial appointments'

Thu, Jan 29th, 2009 1:22 pm BdST
By Arshad Mahmud in Washington

Washington, Jan 28 (bdnews24.com)—Sajeeb Wajed, son of prime minister Sheikh Hasina, has said that comparison between him and Tarique Rahman, son of former PM Khaleda Zia, was unfair as "I've a masters degree in Public Administration from Harvard University".

Sajeeb made the comment in an apparent effort to avoid a direct response to a question posed by bdnews24.com about whether he would declare unequivocally that unlike Tarique, and Khaleda's younger son Coco, he would not become involved in any business deal during the tenure of the current Awami League-led government.

His comment came during the question-answer session at a seminar on "The Bangladesh elections and beyond: Democracy, Security and Development", jointly organised by the Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies and US Bangladesh Business Advisory Council in Washington on Wednesday.

He was one of the four panellists at the seminar, which provided an opportunity for the first time for many in the audience to hear directly from the prime minister's son, since the Awami League-led alliance won a landslide victory in last month's election.

The organisers described him as "an advisor to Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina".

Sajeeb's presence obviously generated a lot of interest among the audience, who were eager to learn more about the election and the country's current and future course.

Not surprisingly, most of the questions were directed to him and that prompted the moderator Walter Anderson, director of the South Asia Programme at SAIS, to intervene repeatedly in an effort to give the other three panellists a chance to answer some questions.

The other three were Joshua White, a PhD student at SAIS, Imtiaz Habib, a board member of USBAC, and Peter Manikas, Asia Director of the National Democratic Institute. White and Manikas recently visited Bangladesh as election observers.

Smart and articulate, Sajeeb made a generally good impression at the start, but his answers to some of the questions appeared to disappoint many in the audience, especially when he was trying to defend the controversial appointment of Toufiqe-e-Elahi Chowdhury as an adviser to the prime minister.

The PM's son was asked directly: "Why do you think the prime minister appointed such controversial figures as Toufique-e-Elahi, who was in jail recently on corruption charges, as advisers while there's no dearth of clean and respectable people in Bangladesh?"

Sajeeb said he didn't see anything wrong in such appointments. "Some people may say that Toufique-e-Elahi is controversial but there are others who say he is not".

About his recent incarceration on corruption charges, Sajeeb said the caretaker government imprisoned many innocent people without any credible evidence and "my mother was one of them".

The seminar was attended by Bangladeshi- Americans, diplomats, academics and others interested in Bangladesh.

Ambassador Humayun Kabir made a brief introductory statement at the seminar about the recent election and future prospects of Bangladesh.
