Definitely Hasina's were not earned and she has enough of these fake ones. But I don't think she would listen!

 

Then I agree that Ph.Ds from India in general are of very low quality. But ofcourse there could be some good ones. However, it was very unfortunate that after the independence of Bangladesh, many of the not so good Ph.Ds from India took some very important positions in Bangladesh Universities. For a while it caused some confusion. I know someone from Bangladesh who just copied from an MA thesis done in North America and finished his Ph.D from Bombay University; he was caught and demoted. 

 

Well, about the length of a thesis in social science, let's say, if it is a topic in history, to have quality, you have to write quite a bit especially to cover the essentials such a review of literature, back ground information etc. then cover the analytical part of your topic. If you make it shorter, leave some of these things out and make it shorter than your MA thesis,  there must be some problem with the supervising committee. I know that even some Ph.D. thesises from north America are not of high quality. Ofcourse, the exception in science subjects is Economics where the length is not counted as a matter of quality. Again, in Social Science, only in Economics that you can write a much shorter thesis and can still have quality.

 

In Englad ofcourse, all you need is to write a thesis. But it is also good to know, in some North American Universities, one is McGill (only) in anthropology department, you are required to write a thesis only to complete your Ph.D.

 

Ph.D. thesises are as if like apples of different varities and tastes. In addition, just because one has earned a Ph.D. doesn't mean he or she knows everything. Some people earn some knowledge and others only earn an ego; which is why some Ph.Ds become worse than a sour apple.

Dear all, A lot recent doctoral degrees are received from India and other developing countries by our fellow University teachers and government officials to get promoted and respect in Bangladesh. My experience with Indian PhDs is that they are no more worth than a Maters in USA and Bangladesh. A lot PhD thesis were doctored and written by paid people. As a result, the quality of our university graduates are going down.

You are right, in USA, a PhD degree requires 60 semister hours [or it's eqivalent in

quarter or other units] of graduate level course work in addition to passing the

qualifying exams, fulfilling the residency requirements and defending the doctoral

thesis. And of course, the quality counts much more than the quantity.

 

Recently, I read that Ferdous Quareshi has a PhD. Does anyone know

where did he get his PhD from, what was his major and what was his

thesis topic? The same questions apply to Col.Oli Ahmed.too !

Are these mail order PhD degrees?

Lately, it seems that there has been a trend to get mail-order PhD degrees

in Bangladesh?

Hasina's Ph.D's were not earned. Knowing how to bluff people, she has been doing it. She had only a BA from Dhaka University. For this type of Ph.D's you need is to fill out a form and keep in touch with the committee that decides it.  She can't fool every Bangladeshi. For an earned Ph.D. from North America, you have to finish about 40 credits of courses, then have to appear for three comprehensive exams and then you will be asked to write your thesis. My thesis done on Maulana Bhasani was closee to 400 pages.

 

I found Hasina giving priority to personal honor before patriotism. When she came to Canada, she stayed in a five star hotel.  I met her in her hotel room. She is not a humble person but quarrelsome. As a researcher on the subject of ethics of leadership, I went to see her. She said to her followers in an angry mood "I have no more time for you. I have to go and pray" and shut the door loudly.Seeing her attitude,  I thought it was an excuse. I found her behavior as if the quarrelsome Ghosato begum in the Sherajudwala story. After the brutal killing of 10 people in front of the Baitul Mokarram by Hasina's followers she even said,  for one we will kill 10 people. That is not respecting the rule of law or being religious. God bless her!
