Dear Community Members in the D.C., MD and VA areas:
"Amar Shonar Bangla, Ami Tomayee Valobashi" ... … … the land, the rivers and the lives of the common people formed a rich heritage which differences Bangladesh from the neighboring regions. The culture of Bangladesh encompasses elements both old and new. It is the mission of EKTARA to unite and provide educational awareness to the Bengali community in the D.C. metro area under the umbrella of this rich cultural heritage.
Throughout the past several years, EKTARA has cemented its position not only as a cultural organization but also an organization that is actively engaged in building a bridge with the Bangladeshi community through sports and other social events.
Keeping that in mind, EKTARA is expanding its horizon to have more community activities in the near future. We are pleased to announce the "EKTARA Calendar of Events for the Year 2013". We hope that with continued support from the community, EKTARA will be able to serve as the bridge that brings together and unifies all the Bangladeshi people living in this region.
EKTARA Calendar of Events for 2013
1. EKTARA Knockout Cricket Cup: 18-19 May 2013: This is a 10/10 format cricket tournament in which 18 teams participated in 2012. Eight top teams from this tournament in 2013 will play in the "EKTARA Premier League 2013".
2. EKTARA River Cruise: 22 June 2013: This fun-filled river cruise will feature lots of activities including live music, games and delicious food.
3. EKTARA Chaand Raat Mela: Night before Eid-Ul-Fitr 2013: We are pleased to announce that, for the first time in the D.C. area, a "Chaand Raat Mela" will be organized by a Bangladeshi organization. EKTARA's Chaand Raat Mela will feature henna stalls, different vendors, food and live music.
4. EKTARA BBQ Bash and KITE (ঘুড়ি) Flying Festival: 7 September 2013: We are pleased to introduce our annual "EKTARA BBQ Bash and KITE (ঘুড়ি) Flying Festival". This one of a kind event will feature Bangladeshi BBQ aficionados from our area. A "Grill Master Championship" contest will be held and attractive prizes await the winners. As part of this event, join us also to celebrate a unique Bangladeshi tradition of kite flying with your friends and families. This unique event in the D.C. area will create a festive atmosphere of fun, food and games.
5. EKTARA Premiere League (EPL): 28-29 September 2013: The top eight teams from "EKTARA Knockout Cricket Cup 2013" will compete in this league format 10/10 cricket tournament. Teams will get an opportunity to play multiple games with each other.
