A new alliance cobbling together some 13 political parties is likely
to be floated after Eid with an avowed objective of freeing the nation
from "corruption and misrule".

Talking to daily sun the leaders of those political parties said as
unrest, panic and uncertainty caused by the confrontational politics
of two major political parties- the ruling Awami League and the
opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)—has gripped the nation,
the new alliance would strive to emerge as the 'third force 'to
salvage the people from their clutches.

To form the new alliance top-ranking leaders will sit together after
the Eid, they said, adding that their main aim is to save the country
and protect the people from the 'anti-people' politics of the two
major political parties.

Sramik Janata League, Forward Party and eight other parties.

"We are trying to form a new alliance to free the nation from
corruption, misdeeds and misrule. We have already started discussing
the issue among ourselves. And we are hopeful that after the Eid we
will be able to form the alliance," JSD president ASM Abdur Rob told
daily sun Friday. However, he said the decision to form a separate
alliance has not yet been finalised.

Talking to daily sun Bangabir Quader Siddiqui said that they want to
do something good for the people anyhow."As the country has been
passing through a critical juncture for long, we can't sit idle. We
will have to save the country and protect its people," he added.

alliance, Quader siddiqui said joining does not matter rather doing
something good for the country and its people is important.

"Considering the latest developments in the country's political arena,
we the like-minded political parties are now discussing how and in
what way we can save the nation," Bangabir said.

When asked about the formation of their alliance, he said it would not
be possible for them to form their alliance right now."We are thinking
that we will sit together after the Eid to complete the formation of
our alliance. And we will also formulate strategy for the next course
of action," he mentioned.

Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh secretary- general major (retd) Abdul Mannan
said they are neither right nor left."We are neither right nor left.
We want to remain beside the common people. Discussion on formation of
an alliance is going on but no final decision has been taken yet," he
added. They would take decision regarding the formation of alliance
after Eid.

"After the formation of the alliance is over, we will work as the
peoples' force. I can't disclose the total number of political parties
which have shown keen interest in joining the alliance. But I can say
we talked to at least seven political parties and have communications
with others," Mannan added.

Replying to a query he said they are not thinking of joining hands
with BNP or Awami League right now."We would like to do something
different which is expected to bring good for the people," he said.

Gono Forum secretary Mostofa Mohsin Montu said they are trying to do
something special."We are maintaining contact with other like-minded
political parties to form the alliance. And we are going to sit
together soon," he said.

He added: Addressing rally is not enough as doing something for the
people is urgently needed now.'We are trying to expand our public
contact. What we are going to do will be clear before the nation in
due course of time," Montu said.
