[chottala.com] Re: Education, Teacher and Retirement.....our alma maters, public university reform...a national priority !?

Wonderful sir. In fact, I like this type of writing of yours (specially higher education issues) rather than the ones on day to day politics.

One idea I would like to share whether it could be a strategic solution:

---  can it be such that government (PM or President) will not be the chancellor (or supreme authority) for appointment or similar issues

--- every public university will have its own board of trustees or board of regents from different stakeholders, they will have all the committees, including search committees who will appoint VC, deans, department chair and professors subsequently

--- government will be only watch dog and a last resort, particularly in case of grievance and appeal by university employees, students, parents or any citizen etc.

- As a start, who will appoint trustee board...yes, government, as a institution, will appoint board members...taking nominations from different quarters of citizens - alumni, journalists, doctors, engineers, professors, businessman and so on....no board chairman or members can remain in the board for lifetime....as a mechanism, every year some board members should be replaced continuously...so no board will be hard line A party or B party or C party for ever...

- if such a board can be made happen...none can escape doing dirty politics, irresponsible behavior etc....and the right quality ones will have room to float ... and government is not liable for day to day operations and campus terrorism

(fundamental hypothesis: educated democratic board or group of people can't agree on grossly evil things and will make a way out of any crisis).

Thanks for your time.
