Bristol, England, July 10 (bdnews24.com) – Bangladesh hung on to a famous five-run victory over England-- their first ever against the cricelites in any format--to level the three-match one-day series at 1-1 on Saturday.

An extraordinary contest was settled when England, needing 237 to win, lost Jonathan Trott for 94 to the third delivery of the final over bowled by Shafiul Islam, sparking dancing celebrations from the underdogs.

At the other end was Ian Bell, bravely batting with a broken foot.

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Shafiul Islam, Abdur Razzak, Shakib Al Hasan and Rubel Hossain all took two wickets each.

For his all round efforts Mashrafe was the man-of-match.

The deciding game of the series is at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Monday. Bangladesh lost the first match by six wickets at Trent Bridge on Thursday.

Bangladesh's 236-7 did not look nearly enough at the interval but the tourists battled brilliantly with the ball.

The result was also their first success of the year after 25 ODIs. Until this match England were the only international side never to have lost to Bangladesh who were wonderfully spirited and disciplined in the field.

Despite conceding 13 runs in the previous over, Shafiul held his nerve to deliver a well disguised slower ball to Trott who edged the ball into the wicketkeeper's gloves.

The Tigers had their tails up after Rubel grabbed both England openers Andrew Strauss (33) and Craig Kieswetter (20) within the first nine overs.

Paul Collingwood should have also gone cheaply to the same bowler but got away when clearly he offered a thick edge. But his reprieve lasted briefly as Razzak trapped him lbw.

The game was evenly poised with England on 115-5 after 25 overs.

The final nail was delivered when Mashrafe broke the stubborn 43-run eighth wicket stand between Stuart Broad and Jonathan Trott after removing Broad for 21, who was caught by Shakib at backward point.

Trott did his best to shepherd the tail but after 247 barren days and a record of playing 20 matches against England and losing them all, Bangladesh valiantly refused to yield in a thrilling climax.

Earlier, Imrul Kayes top scored with 76 off 110 balls while Jahurul Islam made 40. Ajmal Shahzad grabbed 3 for 41 while Stuart Broad and Paul Collingwood took one wicket each.

Most of Bangladesh's top order made starts but failed to convert them into major scores with the exception of Kayes, who struck six fours in his knock.

Star batsman Tamim Iqbal (18) was caught behind off paceman Ajmal Shahzad with the score on 19.

Bangladesh then lost the important wicket of Junaid Siddique who fell for 21 after being caught behind off Broad. But umpire Asad Rauf made a shocking decision as replays showed that the bat and the glove was nowhere near the ball.

Jahurul Islam was looking confident but was taken low down by the wicketkeeper off Shahzad for a 53-ball 40 having spanked the bowler for four.

The right-hander featured in an 83-run third wicket stand with Imrul Kayes, who had reached his fourth ODI fifty.

Former skipper Shakib was bowled by Paul Collingwood after he tried to scoop the ball over the keeper's head but missed and it crashed into the stumps.

Mohammad Ashraful's recall to the team was very brief as he was run out attempting a second run for 14.

Only some late resistance by Mashrafe (22) and Mahmudullah (24 n.o,) helped Bangladesh to their modest total.
