Consumer Protection Law 09 Demanding Immediate Implementation of Consumer Protection Law(CPL) to protect rights of consumers The present Government has enacted Consumer Protection Law '09 in National parliament recently but till now it is not implemented by the bureaucrats. As a result consumers are not getting relief from syndicates and gangs for price hiking of essential commodities. Speaker thanks the government and Members of Parliament for enacted the CPL, so now it required to immediate implementation of law and established the Consumer Directorate. The speakers' urges the government to make a provision to submit complains easily without any cost involvement through establishing special tribunal like as Women and Children special tribunal act at district level. It also suggested to makes provision to dismiss the disputes up to Tk. ten thousand by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer or equability officer at grassroots level. They also are demanding to enact the leveling law to ensure quality of product and price at consumer level. This was stated at Consultation Meeting on Consumer Protection Law at CSDF Auditorium Chandgaon R/A, Chittagong on last 13th February 2010 by Consumer International (CI) Member organization Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Chittagong and City Unit hold a Consultation Meeting on Consumer Protection Law.
Mr. Afsar Khan President CAB Chittagong City Unit presided over the meeting, while Mr. S M Nazer Hossain, President CAB Chittagong Regional Unit was attended as main speaker, Principal Dabir Uddin Khan Principal Hazera Taju University Collage was special guest, amongst others Women activist Ms Jesmins Sultana Paru, President District marriage Register Kazi Yousuf Chowdhury, CAB leaders Umme Kulshum Arzu, Mr. Ajoy Mitra Shanku Secretary Dist GCA, Rashed Khan Menon, Head Master of Nurul Islam Girls High School Lakiot Ullah, Hannan Meah, Principal Miltan Nath, Harun gafur Bhyia, Anower Hossain Sohag, Jahangir Mustafa, Hazi Iqbal Ali Aliakbar, Freedom Fighter Saleh Ahmed, Advocate Mahbubul Islam, NGO activist Yasin Manju, Engineer Ibrahim, Shahin Akhter, Jane Alam were took part the discussion. Mr. Kazi Iqbal Bahar Sabery Secretary CAB Chittagong Regional Unit moderated and presented the key note paper.
Speakers are recommended a 10 points recommendations for urgent implementation of the CPL. Representative from various concern groups were participated the meeting
