Create Social Movement to implement Consumer Protection Law(CPL)- Industries Minister Dilip Barua

Industries Minister Dilip Barua says, the general consumers are not aware about their rights and responsibilities as consumers if they are not organized and proactive no law will protect their rights. The present Government will support CAB to create a social movement on consumer rights. There are few people who are positive for the society and act their personal interest but the number is not big. If we are not able to resist them at the society, they will create so many obstacles for the society. It present it is demanded to start social movement to enforce the Consumer protection law and follow the law by the business group and local administration. 

 

This was stated at Roundtable on Consumer Protection Law at Zila Parhsid Auditorium Chittagong by Consumer International (CI) Member organization Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Chittagong and City Unit hold a Consultation Meeting on Consumer Protection Law on 2nd July 2009.

 

Mr. S M Nazer Hossain, President CAB Chittagong Regional Unit presided over the roundtable, while Industries Minister of the People Republic of Bangladesh Mr. Dilip Barua was Chief Guest, Eminent Journalist and CAB Central President Bohan Ahmed, Secretary General Kazi Faroque and Chittagong City Corporation Panel Mayor Ms. Rekha Alam Chowdhury was special guest. City Editor of Daily Suprobhat Bangladesh M Nasirul Hoque, CPB presidium Member Comrade Shah Alam, Ex BMA Secretary General Dr. A Q M Sirazul Islam, Director Chittagong Chamber Mr. Mahbubul Islam was panel speaker. Amongst other JSD leader Dr Mahfuz, Ex Chittagong Chamber Director Mahfuzul Hoque Shah, District PP Advocate Abul Hashem, Commissioner CTG City Corporation AdvocateRehena Kbair Ranu, Sabiha Musa, Deputy Chief Reporter Ali Haider, UNB Bureau Chief Anjan Sen, Teachers Association leader Abdul Wahab Chowdhury, Emdadul Islam, Freedom Fighter Comaander Idris, Aminul Hoque, Engineer Ibrahim, Women Leader Nurzahan Khan, ADAB Chapter Vice President Rezia Begume, Advocate Mahbubul Islam, Profession Jinbudi Bikkhu from CTG University, CAB Chandur District Leader Moasharaf Hossain, Jaouirnalist Moazammel Hoque, Abdul Mannan spoke on the occasion. Mr. Kazi Iqbal bahar Sabery of CAB Chittagong Regional Unit moderated the roundtable and Mr. Afsar Khan President City unit CAB welcome and Ms. Jesmins Sulatana Paru Vice President of CAB Regional Unit give votes of thanks.

 

The Government has passed Consumer Protection Law in National parliament recently. Speaker thanks the government and Member of Parliaments for enacted the CPL, so now it required to develop rules and guidelines for implementation of law and established the Consumer Directorate immediately. The speakers urges the government to make a provision to submit complain easily without any cost involvement through establishing special tribunal like as Women and Children special tribunal at district level. It also suggested to makes provision to dismiss the dispute up to Tk. ten thousand at Upazila Nirbahi Officer or equability officer at grassroots level. They also demanding to enact the leveling law to ensure quality of product and price at consumer level.

 

Mr. Kazi Iqbal Bahr Sabery Secretary CAB Chittagong Regional Unit moderated the discussion and Mr. Principal Dabir Uddin Khan presented key note paper.

 

In his speech the chief guest Industries Minister said Government try to establish industry friendly situation in Bangladesh, government taken initiatives to restart so many sick industries.  Government also taken various measures to ensure quality services and standard through upgrading the BSTI and it has taken initiatives to recruit 11o staff for BSTI. He urge to business community to provide quality services and minimum profit and not to make any syndicates and adulterate food and milk powder. Otherwise nation will lose meritorious and future nation.         

 

Speakers are recommended a 15 points recommendations for urgent implementation of the CPL.  Representative from various concern groups were participated the meeting
