RE: [chottala.com] Research Information

Dear Mr. Hassan,

Thank you very much for writing on this subject. Your kind suggestions and directives are much appreciated.

As a PhD student I am sure you are well aware that research data on many subjects can be gathered from existing resources  but when the subject matter is non-existent one has to begin from bottom. Any information/data collected from such raw sources has to be vetted to verify its reliability. I am beginning from the raw end then intend to go upwards. Since I am not much educated as you, my ideas are limited. I would be obliged if you could kindly direct me to resources.

I do not know whether you are familiar with End Stage Renal Failure (ESRF), it's a devasting health issue and the citizens of Bangladesh will face massive growth of ESRF in the near future because of consumption of contaminated drinks and foods. The last conservative statistics, done five years ago shows one in every million but presently it is three in every million. This is a very alarming figure. As there is no cure for this disease, the only way to survive is kidney transplant or dialysis which is extremely expensive. My questions therefore     ""Is Chittagong ready to face this calamity?""

In a seminar held September, 2007, it was`revealed that 20 million (two crore) kidney patients are presently in Bangladesh and 35,000 are added each year. I am confident that out of these 20 million at least one million are from Chittagong. What are these people doing?

In the Health budget of Bangladesh only 1.2% of the GNP is allocated and the priority areas are Population control, provision of clean drinking water and eradication of communicable diseases.  There is negligible allocation of development of existing healthcare systems, education to healthcare and facing the challenges of tomorrow. Of course I understand that the government have many other core priorities, like energy, security etc. etc.

Sir, I am not entering into a debate for your wise-crack comments but I hope you understand my reasons for seeking assistance and help from anyone interested to assist me. All I am trying to do is direct a US$5 million fund to Chittagong to develop healthcare for ESRF patients and be ready to face the issue when this disaster strikes. Since I was born in Chittagong I am trying to contribute to the city of my birth, please join me if you can.

I hope you attain your PhD soon and help our community. Bangladesh needs help and is crying.

Kind regards.

Dear Writer,

How can you rely on the data that is collected by the person whom you never know..please consider research ethics and be sure of your the data collection method.

Dear Members,

I am preparing a research Project Proposal for Chittagong Bangladesh and had been trying to find some basis information unfortunately I could not get any information. It would be very helpful if anyone could kindly provide me with the following information:

1. Number of Dialysis Clinic in Chittagong:   Governmental, Private and Charitable dialysis clinics.
2. What are their charges for each treatment and the average changes paid by patients.
3. Number of Nephrogolists practising in Chittagong who are based in Chittagong.
4. If any Nephrologists based elsewehere in the country but visit Chittagong regularly to attend patients, like once a week or more.

I would be much obliged if anyone would respond. If you do not have information on all the four points, please respond with whatever partial information you might have

Kind regards
