BNP leader Hannan Shah arrested under Emergency Powers Rules Star Online Report BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's advisor Brig Gen (retd) Hannan Shah was arrested from his DOHS residence at about 11:55pm last night. He was arrested under the Emergency Powers Rules, police said. Earlier top leaders of Saifur's led BNP including Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman was assaulted by Khaleda Zia loyalists near the grave of the party's founder late president Ziaur Rahman. The BNP leader, also a former minister, Hannan, was taken to the cantonment police station after his arrest. Earlier in May, he was arrested along with his son, in an extortion case and later freed on bail.
