As a practicing primary care physician (pediatrics) in USA , I can tell about the progress that Bangladesh has made in grassroots level of healthcare delivery. The community health clinic program has made revolutions in Bangladesh . Now in rural bangladesh peoples are able to get health care in their doorsteps. The community health clinic was the dream project of our beloved leader Jananetri Sheikh Hasina WhIch she started in 1998 by opening a clinic in Tungipara . Now total no of clinic is about 18000. Main goal is to build one community clinic for every 6000 populations. These clinics already have positive impacts in health careof bangladesh. Infant , child , maternal mortality rate have decreased, child immunization is increased to 85% . Timely prenatal care and birth controls are great help though these clinics. We are ahead of India and Pakistan in these health statistics.
Now we need more skilled nurses and paramedics. Due to scarcity of doctors in rural area we need to create mid level health care providers like USA . I am talking about Physician assistant and nurse practitioner. We can start US accredited courses in nursing schools to produce these allied health professionals. Philippine has great success with US accredited courses in their nursing institutions. For that reason their nurses are in great demand all over the world .
Violation of ethics is a growing concern in our health care delivery system. There are widespread unnecessary cesarean delivery, lab works , procedures, hospital stay , etc . To curtail these , bangladesh needs universal health insurance system . Third party insurance company can do quality control to stop these unethical practices like USA and other countries .
I was delighted to know that some hospitals and doctors are using electronic medical records (EMR) like USA .
Over all I see better health care delivery system in bangladesh under the pragmatic leadership of Hon . PM Sheikh Hasina.
