[chottala.com] An SEZ for Defense Supply Industries

An SEZ for Defense Supply Industries
Can we have one EPZ like area that specializes in the defense related matters?

I know what some of you might be thinking - what in the world we need defense industry for? If you are one of those, let us look at the proposal from a different perspective.

Our historical experiences with the military is not well - so whenever the term military surface, it creates a negative emotion in the Bangladeshi psyche. And its only normal that it is taking time to heal the scars of the past. Also, our more recent experiences after 1971 is not something we are proud of - during Zia and Ershad period. Let alone those days, there has been negative reports even during last 15 months of emergency periods that involve military forces - though this time it was not the mainstream event, but some stray incident. The most recent experience have been largely one of positive - on the balance.

In an independent country, the image of a military is something of a discipline, service and sacrifice. In today's high-tech age, military is also synonymous with cutting edge techniques to defend the national security of the nation that they serve.

Moreover, our military is currently involved in peace keeping missions with the UN helmet around the world.

All these point to a single direction => that is, we need to start thinking about creating our own defense industry. There are many things that could be done to advance that goal. One of the easiest thing to do is to develop a specialized economic zone to manufacture defense related parts.

On the same note, it might be a good idea to relocate the MIST into that zone or create another similar institute within the new defense SEZ.

f you thought some of the ideas are worth of your reading time, please forward it to others. If you have an ear to the columnists in regular traditional media, please forward it to them. If you have an ear to the journalists and news editors of the electronic media, discuss it with them. Hope they would look at the suggestions and give due diligence.

Thanks for your time,
Innovation Line

[chottala.com] Bangladesh Open Source Network Celebrates Pohela Boishakh

Bangladesh Open Source Network Celebrates Pohela Boishakh

Wikipedians and other members of Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) have urged all to start using Open Source Software and enrich Bangla Wikipedia while celebrating Pohela Noboborsho. A number of BdOSN activists gathered on the eve of the New Year in front of Dhaka Public Library from 10 am to 12 pm with these slogans on banners and festoons. People around showed great interest about the event and they were served with information o Open Source, Bangla Wikipedia etc. A special leaflet has also been published to mark the day. The event was concluded with a grand rally in TSC and nearby streets. Lots of people celebrating there showed great interest and participated the rally. Among others there was present Munir Hasan, GS, BdOSN, Mahey Alam Khan, Omar Shehab, Fahim Islam, Ferdous Ahmed Tanin, Belayet Hossain, Ayub Sorkar and Rashid Naim. Activists of Chittagong Open Source Network also gathered in front of DC Hill with the same spirit and motto. The day long program included advocacy on Open Source among the common people. Most encouragingly, the English Wikipedia has given the article on Pohela Boishakh as the rare status of Featured Article on the very first day of Bangla Year. Along with these programs, the contributors enriched the front page of Wikipedia featuring Bangla New Year Celebration every hour.
