What exactly does Spreeha do?
Spreeha provides healthcare, education and job placement training services so that people of slums can take an active part in breaking the cycle of poverty.

What exactly are the slums and slum conditions?

Bangladesh, with a population of 147.4 million is one of the poorest countries in the world; with an estimated 3.4 million people live in some 5000 slums of its capital city, Dhaka. In 2010, the population of the city of Dhaka has been projected at 17.6 million people, with up to 60% in the slums.
Slums are heavily populated in urban areas characterized by poverty and substandard housing. A survey of 100 household represented a total 511 people reveals that habitation in the slums was due to economic migration in 93%. Subjects had 296 children, 89 of whom died. Protein consumption was scarce. 81% had no schooling. Contraception was used by 68%. Acute and chronic health conditions were reported. Work was mainly in the service sector, household income was 56.4 USD/month.

Healthcare
Residents of slums do not have access to affordable or free health care services. In addition, lack of economic resources, information, and assistance prevents them from using private facilities. The densely populated living condition increases the chance of infectious disease outbreaks, thereby increasing mortality rates, reducing productivity, and increasing poverty. To address these issues, Spreeha offers the following services:
·         Provide access to physicians, medication, and education to improve general health
·         Offer prenatal and postnatal care services to females
·         Offer immunization and child health education programs to parents with young children
·         Offer special health programs
·         Offer family planning services to adult married couples

Program Components
General Health
·         Health Clinic
·         Medication
·         Door-to-door health service
·         Education
Women's Programs
·         Prenatal care
·         Postnatal care
Children's Programs
·         Vaccination
·         Malnutrition prevention
Family Planning
·         Consultation
·         Contraceptives

Education
One of the major issues contributing to poverty is the lack of access to education for underprivileged communities. Many underprivileged children ages 3-5 are left in unsafe environments while parents leave for work. These children do not acquire the adequate skills to start primary education at the age of 5. Even for those who make it, the dropout rate of primary school children is extremely high.

According to the World Bank, early childhood development programs benefit disadvantaged families more by reducing dropout rates, improving cognitive development and school achievement, and reducing social inequality.

In addition, studies conducted by the US-based National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) show that early childhood program increases educational attainment later in school and decreases economic and educational inequality.

In order to break the cycle of poverty in the future, it is essential for these children to have access to programs that can enhance their physical and emotional wellbeing, and establish a safe environment to develop strong cognitive skills so that they are prepared to start primary education.

To provide access to education for these underprivileged children, Spreeha offers the following services:
·         Pre-school programs for children ages 3-5
·         After-school tutorial support for children ages 6-14

Program Components
Pre-School
·         3-5-year-old children
·         Provide early education
·         Learn through play
·         Prepare for mainstream primary education
After-School
·         5+-year-old children
·         Tutoring support
·         Reduce dropout
·         Placement to mainstream school

Training
One of the most effective ways to break the cycle of poverty is to provide appropriate training and consultation preparing the poor to compete in current market conditions. Also adolescent girls in poverty-stricken areas have higher probabilities of dropping out of school, entering into marriage early and having children. Spreeha offers the following services to create awareness among this group about their rights, responsibilities, and opportunities:
·         Adolescent girls' clubs to educate them on the necessary awareness of their rights & responsibilities
·         Skills training and support to compete in current market conditions

Program Components
Adolescent Girls Club
·         8-14-year-old girls
·         Educate about rights
·         Skill development for job placement
Vocational Training

Re: [chottala.com] Fundraising with SPREEHA: Colors of Bangladesh

Dear sir,
Please consider one single factor name me one single characters in his literary works except Kabuli which is a Muslim?
The other information you gave about National Anthem of Pakistan is
Wrong. About our national anthem, yes it was written by Tagore when Bengal was divided by British Raj and all the upper class ( mostly Hindu community ) who opposed the partition and demanded that under no circumstance would they allow partition of Bengal .As to Indian national Anthem, yes sir, this is also written by him. But the
Question is when he wrote this and for whom? Please consult history
Then you will know that he wrote this to receive the then King of England when he visited India as our Lord and also King .
I have only one suggestion for us ,please start looking at ourselves,
Try to promote our talented writes then in no time we will start loving and respecting ourselves and our culture.

Re: [chottala.com] Fundraising with SPREEHA: Colors of Bangladesh

It makes no sense that Rabindranath Tagore  was not in favor for poor people.
But he was not a Cheat. He represented  real  Bourgeoisie .In his songs and songs offerings  He is a real poet.
But in Essays Rabindranath Tagore  s a great man-straight forward and merciless  to his own class even.
He is a Great soul  as Tolstoy, Dostoyevosky and any parallel writer ,poet and essayist.

Please do not expect much beyond his class interest. Please read "RASHIAR CHITHI" .
Sorry I am having note of decent on Obaid Jaigirdar's comment.

Ahad
