[chottala.com] Warm wishes

In recent times it has become a fashion for some people to discover a villain so that he can be used in politics. This is done absolutely out of context and without any reason other than personal gains. One such villain is our former Chief Justice Mr.Khairul Hoque. I have never met him and neither have any special soft corner for him. He is known as very decent person and in the recent times has given some landmark judgments. There may be criticisms regarding these judgments and that would not be unusual. What is bothering is that he is being unnecessarily crucified for  taking money from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. It has been portrayed that he is the only Judge who has received such a favour. Till now 24, yest 24 judges have taken money from this fund and that includes quite a few Chief Justices. There is nothing wrong with that. The fund was created for helping the needy which may include anyone. As far as my knowledge goes relief from this fund was earlier distributed amongst National Professors, bureaucrats, university Vice-chancellors, journalists, artists, authors, and even common people. My friends who are so annoyed with Justice Khairul Hoque taking money please click on the news item link below that will give you the names of 24 judges who took money from PM' relief fund in last twenty years. The news comes from Samokal. Also I would recall the plight of Justice Bazlur Rahman who died couple of years back without any treatment. If anyone is interested please refer to my column published on him in Daily Janakantha on July 26, 2006. Lastly how many of you would be surprised if I told you if a university teacher is seriously sick students have to raise money for his treatment and teacher's normally give one day's salary. In Bangladesh truth is more amazing than fiction and honest people sometime need relief.

Take care my dear friends. Hope none of you will need relief from PM's  or any other  fund. May God bless you.

Mannan
