Dear Mr Enayet Ullah,
Because most of the ruler of the Muslim countries are not true Muslims i think. They lack religious zeal. But we should think to over come they present situation.Conscious Muslims of new generation will try and insallah able to make their countries strong and safe.
Not only the Muslims are liable. Many international organizations oppose  increasing defense
systems of Muslim countries.

Re: [chottala.com] goodbye to bangladesh army

Helala Bhai,
You are absolutely right. You wrote the thing that I want to say.  This group was so nice. The people talking here all abt politics...Now a days, I dont feel that much interest as I feel before.

Thanks

Joy bhai, I think you may remember… in the beginning of our forum, we used to have lot of discussion regarding the well being of Chattagram and BD as a whole but that mood kind of disappeared and politics of BD and  across the globe took over. I'm not saying that we shouldn't talk about politics in this forum.. of course we should discuss abt politics as it's part of our life but we should do it in a moderate productive way.
As we all know, we have so many disasters going on in BD but sometime I feel like.. not many of us cares. We all keep talking abt politics. When our neighbors are progressing towards science and technology and we are keep talking about politics. I just read a surprising news yesterday.. India helped Israel to launch a spy satellite in space… what surprised me the most is that not the India-Israel strategic military co-operation but India's superiority over Israel when it comes to launching capacity. When India is going far far ahead of us when it's comes to science and technology, when TATA came up with the cheapest automobile in the world, guess what we are doing!! We are wasting our time with "are we Bengoli or Bangladeshi debate, we are wasting our time with "who declare the independence" debate, we are wasting our time to divide the nation with pro-liberation and anti liberation forces debate.
When the current CTG came to the power, I was a big supporter of them and hope that things will be changing in BD. And I was really excited when judiciary was seperated from Govt. I thought, now, justice will be flourishing for everyone. BUT in reality, judiciary is worse than JP/AL/BPN term. And current CTG is slowly failing in every aspect of BD and I don't know where they will end up with.
I hope and pray that ONE day our nation will wake up and forget about the hatred to each other and start working towards a prosperous BD. Our politicians and so called shushil shomaj will spend more time to figure out how to unite our country, how to innovate ideas regarding producing more food ( keep in mind, we have one of the most fertile land in the world), how to deal with our education problem, how to save our rivers, how to solve our flood problems, how to utilize our fresh flood water and store them for dry season, how to handle natural disasters with out foreign support,  how to develop an IT infrastructure, how to give birth of nuclear scientists, how to develop a road infrastructure without wasting our valuable land to name a few.
Joy bhai, pls keep me on the loop if you have any positive idea(s) regarding our people. As I always said before, I will be happy if we can positively change just one life in my entire life time.
May Almighty keep you and your family safe and happy. May Almighty erase the hatred from our soul and filled it with love and forgiveness.

[chottala.com] Why only BAL and BAL minded people in the roundtable dialogue of Sujon?????

[chottala.com] Freed teachers say protests against 'injustice' will continue

Freed teachers say protests against 'injustice' will continue
Dhaka, Jan 22 (bdnews24.com)—Four Dhaka University teachers Tuesday placed wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar and vowed to continue their protests against what they said was injustice, hours after they had been freed from prison.

They thanked all teachers and students for continuing a peaceful movement to help ensure their freedom from jail.

Released at 5.45pm, they walked to the campus from jail in Old Dhaka, accompanied by relatives, colleagues and students.

The students and teachers garlanded them. Many showered flower petals on them as they walked down the road, amid a surreal mix of smiles and tears.

The freed teachers spoke briefly to a curious crowd and expressed gratitude to those who had launched a peaceful programme.

Prof Anwar Hossain, one of the three teachers convicted by a Dhaka court and later pardoned by President Iajuddin Ahmed, said: "This verdict is not only against some teachers of Dhaka University. It is against the whole Dhaka University community, the conscience of the nation."

"I did not want to come out of jail. Then the jail authorities tried to force me out as per the Jail Code. Later they informed me that all students would be released by tomorrow (Wednesday)."

"Nobody can gag the voice of conscience. We will join a teacher-student-guardian solidarity rally at the Aparajeyo Bangla tomorrow."

The teacher said he would narrate the picture of alleged torture in custody to the national and international media.

"We did not do any injustice. We protested injustice."

Prof Anwar thanked the members of the families of detained teachers for standing by them and supporting them with courage and patience.

Prof Harun-or-Rashid said: "All teachers and students had their support to our struggle for justice for the long five months. That's why we could come here today."

"We stood by the students out of moral conscience. The power of teachers is their moral strength. We upheld the glorious traditions of Dhaka University. We did not agree to a proposal of bail. Let the ill-fate come our way but we will not lower our head."

"We will stay the course of justice. We will always speak against injustice and torture."

He said, "We want to stand by the students. Many are still detained. We will continue to speak for their freedom."

Prof Neemchandra Bhowmick said: "We thank the teachers and students for getting us freed through different programmes. Protests against injustice will continue. We will protest injustice to maintain a peaceful atmosphere on the campus."

Prof Sadrul Amin said: "The government assured us of freedom several times but did not implement it sooner. They played a game with us."

[chottala.com] Caretaker government system lived out its life: Badruddin Omar

Caretaker government system lived out its life: Badruddin Omar

Dhaka, Jan 21 (bdnews24.com) – Columnist Badruddin Omar has said the caretaker government system is no longer a remedy to any political crisis in the country.

In a memorial lecture on the late barrister Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Monday, Badruddin said such a makeshift system worked for the time being after the autocratic regime of HM Ershad had collapsed.

"The idea originated during the anti-Ershad movement in the 1980s. It had surfaced for the political need of the time. But the people, who had raised the issue, did not think of its legal aspects," he said.

Badruddin said the Fakhruddin administration, which tends to call itself a military-backed interim government, was born out of the fall of a caretaker government (led by president Iajuddin Ahmed).

The memorial lecture was organised to mark the 76th birth anniversary of the late Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed, senior advocate of the Supreme Court. The Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Smriti Parishad organised the discussion at the National Museum auditorium. Former chief justice Mustafa Kamal chaired the meeting.

Badruddin said Ishtiaq worked for the separation of the judiciary from the executive but could not see the changes.

"But Ishtiaq Ahmed would not have been happy if he had seen the way the judiciary was separated," he said.

Former attorney general Mahmudul Islam said Ishtiaq had played a significant role in shaping up the caretaker government system.

His thought was linked with an alternative interim system to hold a free and fair election in the country when controversy mounted over Magura elections under the BNP government, Mahmudul said.

Ishtiaq was honest not only in his work but in his thought and political ideology, he said.

Justice Mustafa Kamal said Ishtiaq was not a politician but was an ideologue for politicians.

"Now we have a very few people like him (Ishtiaq)," Kamal said.

Publisher of the University Press Limited Mohiuddin Ahmed said Ishtiaq had been successful in performing as an adviser to two caretaker governments.

Justice Mustafa Kamal later launched "The Ishtiaq Papers"—a collection of his write-ups.

Former chief justice KM Hasan, Dr Kamal Hossain, Dr M Zahir, Dr Anisuzzaman, justice Tafazzal Islam, justice MA Matin, barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud, journalist Ataus Samad and Ishtiaq's daughter Dr Raina Fateh also attended the discussion.

[chottala.com] DU teachers condemn verdict

 DU teachers condemn verdict
Tue, Jan 22nd, 2008 2:49 pm BdST

Dhaka, Jan 22 (bdnews24.com)—Two groups of Dhaka University teachers tied to the Awami League and left parties Tuesday rejected the court verdict that sentenced three teachers to two years in jail for breaking emergency rule last year.

The teachers called upon the public to stand beside them through the "hard days".

Up to 20 DU teachers belonging to the two groups assembled at the Battola on the campus in a midday demonstration to protest the court verdict, reported bdnews24.com correspondents Jannatul Ferdous and Golam Mortuja Antu from the campus.

"The judgment has simply wounded us. DU is passing hard days," said Muntasir Mamun, a professor of history.

"We'd request all to stand beside us as they did in the past—in 1969, 1971 and in 1990."

"Protesting injustice and misrule has been our tradition and heritage through the past century-long life of the university, leading the country and the nation to realising a number of its cherished goals, including independence," Prof Muntasir said.

"This military-backed government wants to see us trampled under the military's boots. We'll not allow that to happen. We want our teachers be freed with honour."

Professor Mesbah Kamal said: "The teachers and students here are no criminals. They just happened to speak up when the sanctity of the university was violated."

"We are here today to protest the verdict as it was not at all an honourable solution to the troubles," he said.

"The prestige of DU has been undermined seriously by the mockery of a judgment delivery," Prof Abdus Samad said.

"It's the government who is not allowing the law of the country to prevail and we've assembled here to announce that we'll officially vent our protests tomorrow."

A 'solidarity mass' will be held at the Battola Wednesday, Prof Samad said.

"The DU teachers have not committed any crimes; therefore, the question of showing mercy to them by any quarters is also irrelevant."

Acting dean of the social sciences faculty AAMS Arefin Siddique said: " I've heard about the judgment, which showed that the government is ill disposed towards the highest educational institution in the country."

"I vehemently protest this inimical attitude."

Siddique said the teachers would soon meet to work out a renewed protest programme.

A Dhaka court Tuesday sentenced Dhaka University Teachers Association president Professor Sadrul Amin, general secretary Professor Anwar Hossain and social sciences faculty dean Professor Harun-or-Rashid to two-year imprisonment, while acquitting applied physics and electronics department chairman Professor Nimchandra Bhowmik and 15 students.

Hundreds protest as Bangladesh teachers jailed

DHAKA (AFP) — Hundreds of students demonstrated in Bangladesh's main university campus Tuesday after three of their professors were jailed for two years over campus unrest last year, police said.

The students at Dhaka University chanted slogans against the country's army-backed emergency government, which has been in power for just over a year.

"There is no violence. But the situation does not look well," said local police chief Shahidul Islam.

The three professors, two of whom are also deans of the university, were jailed for breaking emergency rules outlawing protests during the student unrest last August. The outbreaks prompted a week-long curfew in the country.

"The judge said the three Dhaka University professors broke the emergency laws by joining processions during the unrest and the charges against them were irrefutably proved," deputy police commissioner Shahidul Haq Bhuiyan said.

He added that the court acquitted another professor and 15 students -- and authorities have hinted that those sentenced could be pardoned by the president.

The student protests began at Dhaka University and spread across the country, leaving at least one dead and more than 100 injured. The government accused non-students of hijacking the demonstrations.

Bangladesh's emergency government came to power on January 12, 2007, following months of strikes and rioting by rival supporters of the country's two main political parties, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and the Awami League.

The emergency government has promised to clean up the country's notoriously corrupt political landscape before holding fresh elections in late 2008.
