বাংলাদেশের চলমান পরিস্থিতির জন্য দুই প্রধান রাজনৈতিক দলের যুদ্ধংদেহি মনোভাবকে দায়ী করে সংঘাত থামানোর উদ্যোগ নিতে তাদের প্রতি আহ্বান জানিয়েছে জাতিসংঘ মানবাধিকার কমিশন। নির্বাচনকালীন সরকার নিয়ে দুই প্রধান দলের মুখোমুখি অবস্থানে গত কয়েকদিনে সংঘাত-সহিংসতায় ২০ জনের বেশি মানুষের প্রাণহানিতে উদ্বেগ জানিয়ে রোববার দেয়া এক বিবৃতিতে এই আহ্বান জানানো হয়।

জাতিসংঘ মানবাধিকার কমিশনের প্রধান নাভি পিল্লাই রাজনীতিকদের উদ্দেশে  বলেন, "সহিংসতা এখনি বন্ধে তাদের যার যা করার তা করতে হবে এবং সংলাপের মধ্যদিয়ে মতভেদের অবসান ঘটাতে হবে।"

গত কয়েকদিনে সংঘাত-সহিংসতায় মানুষের মৃত্যু দেখে উদ্বেগ জানিয়ে তিনি বলেন, একদিকে বাসে বোমা মেরে মানুষ হত্যার ঘটনা দেখা যাচ্ছে, যা থেকে শিশুরাও রক্ষা পাচ্ছে না। অন্যদিকে আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনীর হাতে বিরোধী দলের নেতাদের আটক হতে দেখা যাচ্ছে, যা বিরোধকে উস্কে দিচ্ছে।

বাংলাদেশের মানুষ সুষ্ঠু ও শান্তিপূর্ণ নির্বাচন দেখতে চায়- এই মন্তব্য করে নাভি পিল্লাই বলেন, "রাজনৈতিক নেতৃ্বৃন্দকে নিজেদের অনড় অবস্থানে ছাড় দিতে হবে। নইলে বাংলাদেশ গভীর সঙ্কটে পড়বে।"
