Canadian police seize passports of two Bnagladeshi nationals

The much-talked about PadmaBridge graft scam got momentum when the
Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)has confiscated passports of two
Bangladeshi born people those are also closerelatives of Bangladesh
government high-ups, according to media reports.

The RCMP - which is conducting aninvestigation against the Canadian
company SNC-Lavalin since October last year gettingthe World Bank
request - has also put surveillance on at least fourCanada-based
Bangladeshis, the report added.

Sources said the RCMPinvestigation has also found proof against some
big shots includingcommunications minister Syed Abul Hossain, former
state minister for foreignaffairs Abul Hasan Chowdhury, ex-secretary
of the Bridges Division MosharrafHossain Bhuiyan, former director of
PMBproject Rafiqul Islam, MD of Engineering and Planning Consultant
Ltd (CEP)Ziaul Huq, who represented for SNC-Lavalin and Mujibur Rahman
Chowdhury aliasNixon Chowdhury who is younger brother whip Noor-E-Alam
Chowdhury.

Besides, three high-profiledbusinessmen and a ruling party MP are also
in the suspects' list of RCMP.

WB Country Director EllenGoldstein earlier said that the global lender
found serious and credibleevidence of fraud and corruption in Padma
Bridge project.

And, the WB informed the matterto Bangladesh government, first in
September 2011 and again in April 2012, withurging to take action by
conducting a thorough investigation
