Lots of communications among AIT alumni to give condolences and provide moral supports to all the Japanese are floating all over during the past week. Japan has been one of the strongest donor countries to AIT since the early years of AIT. Many lecturers from Japan have come to teach at AIT and many Japanese students have come to join AIT. We are more or less always benefited from Japan and connected to Japan in one way or another. Although AIT communities are quite lucky so far that there is no news about anyone in our AIT family hurt or suffered from this disaster, we still feel the hardship and the pain of the many Japanese who are not as lucky. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to invite all the AIT alumni to show our heartfelt support to Japan. I would propose a call for donation to Japan among our AIT alumni. I believe this is the best we can do beyond showing our moral support. The amount of money is not that significant, but the gesture from out AIT alumni family is more important. There are many ways to donate the money in this case. But I would like to suggest that each national chapter initiates a campaign among its members and prepare a good account of the donors. The money could be sent via the best means available to you for you may be able to get tax benefit from this donation in your country. And I do not suggest you send the money through us in Thailand. But I would like to request for the accounts of the donation and through whom you donate so that we will be able to make a summary and report to the Japanese government at the end. For your information, I also learn that AIT is going to do the same and the current students in AIT are going to do so as well. I think we, AIT alumni, have a good chance to act together with our alma mater to show the least we can do for Japan in this difficult time.
