Bangladesh should also honour Napalese soldiers killed in 1971 Liberation War
Lest we forget! Nepal's sacrifice for our independence.
I am taking this opportunity to express my gratitude towards
Nepalese people who also had their share of contribution as a
good neighbor through their moral and material support in
every possible way.
A large number of Gurkha soldiers in Indian regiments gave
their lives during skirmishes and fight with Pakistan army in
1971.
The settlements of the families and dependents of these
Nepali Shahid soilders were built in Pokhra in south-western
Nepal (Annapurna Range of the Himalayas) about 100 miles
west of Katmandu.
Once again, I salute to Mr. Mohendra's father and all other
shahids who made the extreme sacrifice by giving their life
for our independence. This includes Indian Army's Bihar
regiment whose members were also killed in the war. Hindu,
Buddhist and Muslim influences intermingled together in Bihar regiment to produce a soldiery which was traditionally
arms bearing, disciplined and deeply religious.

The announcement to honour the Indian soldiers came as a visiting military delegation led by Lt-Gen Vijay Kumar Singh, the next chief of the Indian Army, called on Islam at his office.Lt-Gen Singh, currently Eastern Army Command chief at Kolkata, will take over as the next Army chief from General Deepak Kapoor on March 31.

The minister said Bangladesh plans to invite 30 Indian 1971 veterans to join "independence day celebrations" on March 26.
Ten Indian war veterans, led by Lt. Gen (retd) JFR Jacob, the chief of staff of the Indian Army's Eastern Command during the 1971 campaign, joined Bangladesh's Independence Day celebrations two years ago for the first time at the invitation of former Bangladesh Army chief Moeen U Ahmed.
