| Dear Friends - It is hard to believe that just five short months ago, we came together as a nation and elected Barack Obama the 44th President of the United States. Today, some 100 days since our new President took his oath of office, America is back on the right track after eight long years of veering in the wrong direction. Writing in Time Magazine, Joe Klein suggests that in comparing our recent presidents' first 100 days, "I don't think we've ever seen anything like Obama since Roosevelt." I agree. And I hope you will join me on June 16th at our Maryland Democratic Party Gala to celebrate the successes of our new President and to begin laying the strong foundation for more Democratic victories in 2010. For those of us in Maryland, the President's leadership is making a real difference for our families and for our ability to climb out of this national recession. President Obama and Vice President Biden successfully fought to pass the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to create or save thousands of jobs and stimulate our economy while also helping secure a better future for our children and grandchildren by investing in our roads, bridges, and schools. Maryland is receiving more than $4 billion from this stimulus bill, funds which are allowing us to put our Families First by investing in our #1 ranked public schools, along with affordable college, public safety, health care, transit improvements, and the environment. We are committed to investing these funds effectively, efficiently, and transparently - and have been recognized by the Administration for our nation-leading efforts. In this light, we encourage you to join us at our Democratic Gala. In Maryland, Democrats were successful in 2006, we were successful in 2008, and we will be successful again in 2010. The President is also making a real difference for families across America by signing legislation to provide four million children with access to quality health care, and to guarantee our sisters, mothers, and daughters equal pay for equal work. What's more, by sending $2 million to help us combat the foreclosure crisis in Maryland, he's helping us put our Families First by keeping middle class families in their homes. The President's decision to lift the federal ban on stem cell research will have a positive impact on Maryland's economy, where a national research institution ranks our bioscience sector as one of the top two in America. President Obama's leadership on the environment is helping us attain our goals in Maryland, where together we've passed landmark clean cars legislation, protected 21,000 acres of Open Space, set ambitious goals to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse emissions, and made substantial progress toward restoring the Chesapeake Bay. Last but not least, the President's leadership in foreign affairs is making our families safer. In just 100 days, President Obama and his Administration have made real progress toward restoring our alliances and renewing America's moral leadership in the world. As the President looks to his next 100 days, we are committed to our partnership with his Administration - and with all of you - to put our Families First and get Maryland's economy booming again. The President is not resting and neither are we. We look forward to seeing you on June 16th at the Gala as we celebrate the President, Maryland Democrats, and moving our country in the right direction.
