Violence against women
According to many reports, the govt. goons perpetrated violence against women publicly in the evening by assaulting about 20 women on 14 April, the Bangla New Year's Day, at TSC in Dhaka.
The culprits, whoever they are, must be brought to justice. The sordid, heinous and despicable assault on women caused a storm in the country, including social media. Punishment must be meted out to the perpetrators, and the govt as well as the concerned organisations and individuals must try and make sure that the women have the protection, they need, and their equality and dignity ensured.
Violence against women exists throughout the world, and it is a measure, amongst others, of the barbarity and degradation, which exists in a society. These crimes need to be eradicated for the sake of humanity and human rights. Humanity and human rights must prevail.
It is difficult to obtain true statistics of the violence against women, but whatever is obtained shows the horrifying state we have in the societies. The figures in the US speak quite loudly:
Every 107 seconds, another American is sexually assaulted.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice's National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS)--there is an average of 293,066 victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year.
A Washington Post article analysed the reasons for violence against women in India:

In Bangladesh, work on the subject has been going on for quite a long time. Many papers are available. Please see the following govt. study:
